The imminent reveal of a remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has now leaked via Virtuous' website; the heavily rumoured edition is now — without doubt — a real thing. Screenshots and marketing materials have been found.
Its official name is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and there'll be a standard and Deluxe Edition on offer. The images are quite blurry so it's difficult to tell, but it appears the Deluxe Edition will offer additional weapons and armour sets, and even an infamous set of horse armour.
Please see below for some of the screenshots that have leaked:
All the speculation surrounding the release points to an April 2025 announcement and launch all at once, with the latest claim being it's coming at some point next week. At least now we know the PS5 remaster is absolutely real.

Looks like Grubb may just avoid getting struck-out… for now 😏
Grubb must be giddy with excitement right now that he got something right 😂
John Scrolls-Oblivion is going to get a seriously sore arm if he's still intent on holding his sword out in front of himself all day
Meh..I thought it was a Remake..Oh well, not bothering..If it just a graphics job only..
Praying this is still more than just a graphical overhaul. I have very fond memories of Oblivion (was my favourite game for years) but the gameplay systems have aged terribly.
Fingers crossed.
@graymamba Still waiting for him to say he was wrong about the whole Sony money hatting Black Myth Wukong situation...
The comparison screens show the remaster looking a bit more muted and less vibrant, and looks more Skyrim-y of course. Ironically, it now looks more like a seventh gen game than the original version.
This is running on unreal engine 5 so I'd wait to pull the trigger on this till you know it runs. Ue5 games generally perform very poorly on ps5
Getting excited for a Bethesda game was sooooooo 15 years ago.
YES! That art alone goes so hard 😭 I'll gladly double dip. I want a box on my shelf, and a Steam copy running on the highest possible settings 🥹
I doubt this remake is going to do any favours to BGS's Creation Engine moving forward if it turns out to be made in UE5.
Is it me or does the women on the right look like Lae'zel from bg3 rather than the original on left
Just finished playing Skyrim for the first time ever so this is very good timing.
I wonder if any old quirks and glitches will carry over.
Visually I'm liking what I'm seeing so I'll still be there day (or night) one. I'd hope they reworked a lot of the actual mechanics, UI especially and I'd love to see the Shivering Isles included but I'm just glad it's real.
@ShogunRok was it better or worse than Gothic in that regard? Both would be my first time playing them, if Gothic ever comes out. Both will be UE5 Remake-sters (?) 😅
I'd have interest in both, but if they are godawful to play it might be tough to appreciate them
@Ravix Personally I always liked it better than Gothic, but it was also more simplistic so there was less to get wrong.
Oblivion is comparable to Skyrim but with much more mindless flailing and a near total lack of hit animations / enemy AI. If people think Skyrim's combat is bad today, it's got nothing on Oblivion!
@Brundleflies21 It's using both I think. UE5 is only handling the graphics.
Oblivion PS5? 🤔. It will also come to Xbox/Xbox Game Pass, as it is from the Xbox division.
Definitely interested, never for playing it on PS3, leaving the sewers and just seeing how big the game world was, is definitely a gaming moment.
@LogicStrikesAgain Isn't it crazy he was considered a reliable source/leaker years ago and now everyone just rolls their eyes when he announces something new?
Cool. Just hoping they fix the game and don’t just update the graphics, as there was always a lot of potential there.
Where is ps5 then or did i miss something. i hope so of course this was one of my favorite and best rpg's ever!
At this rate the entire game will leak before it's officially announced.
There are only so many weeks in April that leakers can claim "next week" for. Which 2012 are we at now?
I think its looks great and definitely a day one purchase for me 😁
On the one hand, yes, I would like the gameplay systems updated. On the other, I have very fond memories of jumping everywhere I went to level my acrobatics like a skipping idiot, so I'll still snatch this up if it's just a remaster!
Hopefully the visuals aren't the only thing that's been improved.
It gets to the point where it's like impatient people almost bully companies into announcing a game.
We'll leak it before you're ready to surprise us.
Woot woot! I have a rule against either buying a game day one or preordering, but for this game ( and KCD 2) im making an exception. Love Skyrim but all around i feel Oblivion is more rounded and a better fit for an Elder Scrolls game.
Cool! Hopefully I'll like it. I've become a huge ES fan over Skyrim and ESO. Hated the series prior to that. Will definitely try the remaster though.
@CKFilms yeah i do agree. Very ridiculous. I thought game companies would do more on the legal side to protect against stuff like this. Only this time I'm glad i heard the rumor. I held back some of my videogame budget because of it. Otherwise i would have blown it on one of psn’s never ending sales, on a few cheap games that would likely sit in my library.
I don't like that they seemed to of toned down the green. I was hoping it would be like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
I really liked the narrated intro by Patrick Steward. Everything else was a trash fire. How the hell did they go from Morrowind to this?
These screenshots look gorgeous I really hope they don't mess this up OBLIVION is one of my favourite games of all time. The majority of my Teenage life was spent playing this game 😅
Tries to stay calm
Day One. I need my nostalgic veins fed.
I remember playing Oblivion on the ps3 years and years ago. I didn't get very far in it but I'll gladly dive back with this remaster.
@Deadlyblack I discovered Oblivion game of the year edition and Fallout3 game of the year on the same day. I played Oblivion first then Fallout3, definitely one of the best weeks I ever had in gaming.
Hopefully there's zero Skyrim in this.
I hate remasters but you better f**king believe I will be getting this!
ahhh, horse armour...
Hoping this isn’t a GTA Definitive situation, especially with Unreal Engine being used. I’m excited to see how it holds up to the mod that’s also slated to release this year
Now if they would only do this with Fallout 3 I'd be there day one.
My first impression is disappointed. Look at the vibrant greens and blues of OG Oblivion, then look at the drab browns in the UE5 screenshot. Not flattering...
I hope they fix the NPCs and their conversations.
"Hello!"
"I'm tired of talking to you!"
Man stands on table
"Do you know about mudcrabs?"
"Good bye!"
Man repeatedly walks into corner
"Hello!"
I knew this wouldn't be a remake and be shadow dropped. Remaster sounds about right. Probably the same janky mechanics with a lick of paint. Shame, but more realistic I suppose.
"You should have paid the fine!"
Love this game, with all of it's jank.
@TheLotteryMan1 Why judge before we've had a proper look at it? Sounds like they have made gameplay improvements as well
One of my favorite games I’ll gladly play it again I know a lot of people who never got to play so it’s like a win for most people. Reading some of the comments no matter what they do or don’t do some one won’t be happy and that’s okay
Why have they made the grass brown??? This looks awful
@Matroska that's half of the fun of oblivion
FFS, make it official already!!!
Honestly, I love Oblivion so much they could just straight up Port it over at 4k/60fps (basically how the OG 360 Version runs in BackCompat on XsX already) and I'd buy that sh*t day 1 🤣
Finally some evidence, assuming this isn't faked. I was honestly getting tired of the hearsay.
Let's remember these are leaks, not photos released by the developer. What ends up getting released could look significantly different from what we're seeing here. Honestly I'm just glad it exists.
@TheLotteryMan1 i've read a few spots that say its more of a remake then a remaster despite it being called a remaster , with game play improvements
@Keyblade-Dan Same! Many a hurried rush back from High School to sink more time into the tumbling hills of Cyrodiil! The game was class 😄
Oblivion was my first PS3 game, so i played the everliving crap out of it. I think it's my favourite Elder Scrolls because of it. That, plus it isn't as streamlined as Skyrim was in terms of quests. Really looking forward to this. I hope there's a physical release.
@Matroska I hope they don’t, this is why I love the game so much.
I played Morrowind and Oblivion a crazy amount back in the day, but never actually finished the Oblivion main story & kinda burnt out on it. Never got into Skyrim.
OOF!! Looking a bit too Skyrimy there in those screenshots, especially at the dock. I'm happy for those who are looking forward to this, but me thinks I'll be sticking with my PS3 version.
Long live Bob the Khajiit.
@atthegates "Ue5 games generally perform very poorly on ps5." Really as I find most ue5 games are quite exceptional on the ps5. There's a handful that have a few issues but they usually get patched quite quickly so in general they run quite well really.
@ShogunRok "If people think Skyrim's combat is bad today, it's got nothing on Oblivion!" When this was announced I dug out my copy of the super duper edition and installed it on my laptop for those away from home for the weekend moments. I've been playing it off and on over the past month and that comment you made is hilarious to be honest. The combat is simple, fast and fairly fluid but it's nowhere near as bad as you make out. The game is as much fun as it was when I first played it all those years ago. I'll probably purchase this at some point but not just yet as I have too much on the go.
@Northern_munkey I actually preferred and loved Oblivion.
Skyrim to me was the weaker of the 2. Could not get into Skyrim at all.
Seems like a long journey for a game people will play for 10 minutes before returning to whatever current game they're playing (as with all these remakes/remasters)
They have basically done a GTA Trilogy put it through Unreal Engine 5 and used it's AI systems to update everything. Then probably did what Grove Street Games didn't do went over it with a tooth comb (I won't say fine tooth comb because this is a Bethesda game from the Creation Engine) to check for any news bugs and issues
Its just to make the game play on modern hardware nothing more and probably above 60fps thought it's Unreal 5 or Stutter Engine as I like to call it. I'll see about it's price and reviews but if anything I'm waiting on Skyblivion I am hyped for that because the work they've done is amazing
@Northern_munkey Oblivions combat was okay it was the leveing system people didn't like it
@LogicStrikesAgain broken clock is right twice a day
I’ve just spent a couple of hours playing the disk based version on PC, and the graphics actually look pretty good for a 19 year old game when turned up to max. I’m playing it on a 1080ti and the frame rate is actually pretty good too, although could do with some mouse smoothing, or dare I say it, motion blur.
Cookie cutter dungeons and fetch quests aside, the only issues I’ve had were not being able to install Shivering Isles because of SecureROM. The upside to levelling feels like any class can max out all stats if you use the skill enough, I think that’s the case, but I’m literally 2 hours in and haven’t played it for at least 17 years!
@Marvineternus this website refuses to acknowledge xbox for some reason all of the headlines always imply the games are only coming the ps5 its odd
Never heard of Virtuos hope they do it justice
@DrVenture69 I couldn't wait either so I jumped back in. I was really tempted to look at the map but the receipt has the game down as August of 2010 and I've successfully unmemorized the world. I don't want to spoil too much before this new version, and that's even if the DLC is included. It doesn't feel anywhere near 15 years ago, I'll be happy to play it on a PS5 controller. Switching back to older controllers always feels weird.
@TheLotteryMan1 no-one said remake
The level scaling is the key. It was so busted. Feeling all OP, proceed to go through an oblivion gate, get destroyed lol. Or maybe by just a random bear. I collected every damn nirnroot though.
@GirlVersusGame so cool you’ve got the receipt too! Interestingly my manual cover is the same colour as the box, a kind of cream colour. So the ps3 version is slightly different. I definitely hear you about going back to the ps3 controller. Ive never sold a video game so ive got two plastic crates of these😄
@DrVenture69 It's part of the old PS3 Platinum Collection. Ubisoft published the European version, they handled the localization and translation too. It's a really beefy set, a reminder that we didn't always get a flimsy piece of paper with some basic controls. This one had a 50 page colour manual (with art) that explained everything really well. The only game I ever got rid of (twice) then bought it back again was the Alien Trilogy on PS1. I love the franchise but it made me physically sick to play. I haven't taken inventory of the games I've kept, I'd have to admit I have a problem.
@GirlVersusGame i do miss decent manuals. That Baldurs Gate manual with the 5 disk cardboard holder. Still remember getting that. Ive just found the Forgotten Realms “The Archive” manual which is the size of a decent sized novel😂. I think we both have the same problem😂
@Northern_munkey I loved Skyrim, very much in part because I felt there was an improvement on the combat/animation over Oblivion. I gave Oblivion a couple of hours but the skating around movement, and swinging the sword like a drunken man/woman just grated too much for me. As long as it is at least Skyrim level improved ( and it should be ) then Oblivion should be a blast to play for me. Really looking forward to it. 👍🏻
