Sony has re-released underrated PS2 kaiju brawler War of the Monsters on both the PS5 and PS4, as part of its improved PS Plus Premium retro push.
While this game was already available on the PS Store as part of the platform holder’s previous efforts, it’s now contained within the company’s new emulator, which comes with all sorts of advantages – like quick save and rewind.
Also among the improvements is an all-new Trophy list, with a Platinum at last. The arena fighter’s gone from 18 Trophies to 21 Trophies, with that silver-blue pot being the most important addition.
But it’s actually easier to get all the gongs this time: most of the Trophies revolve around completing the campaign, and there’s significantly less grinding required now. One thing worth noting is that cheats won’t help you in this version as they’ll disable the Trophies, so that’s worth keeping in mind.
But if you’re already familiar with the game, it shouldn’t take you longer than three or four hours to get all of the gongs – especially if you use the rewind and save state features effectively.
Also of note is that new third-party addition Alone in the Dark 2 has Trophies as well, including a Platinum, so there’s plenty of incentive to revisit these retro games.

Fantastic. And great news that cheats disable trophies. This should be standard in all games.
Gave it a try yesterday, but the controls felt pretty awful to me. It's one of the reasons I avoid older games.
@thefourfoldroot1 eh.... I dunno. Saints row 2 had this feature. But if somebody joined you and then used cheats it disabled them for you too. Except there no way to prevent people from joining your game and using. Smh
I Feel like it's been a while since we've had games like this and Rampage also I hope Sony updates the trophy list for Ape Escape 2 as that game needs a platinum as well.
My tiny mind read that as 'Playstation re-release Bags'
I momentarily thought that Push Square had finally gone doolally.
What's going on with the icons though?
Most of them are just blurry:

Did they not get the licensing for the pictures/posters last minute?
Love this! Would really like to see Twisted Metal Black get the same treatment and also not get censored down. What I really want though is The Getaway, although I wonder if all the car licensing they did actually would prevent it from ever being rereleased
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy I think we'll get twisted metal black when season 2 of the show debuts probably along with head on.
is their a free upgrade for previous owners like they did for blood siren? As at the moment it looks like you need to buy it again.
@Americansamurai1 I hope you're right but I just can't see Black making the cut, it's so much more violent than any of the other first party PS2 classics they've put up (I think). But then again, they did sell it on PS4 so who knows. I just want to get a platinum
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy I don't think the violence will hold it back, the only thing I could see is the licensing of the song paint it black but we'll see. Would actually prefer a complete remake of black, but don't think Sony is going to make any new games in the series after they cancelled the live service title.
@Americansamurai1 good point on the song, which is actually quite critical for the game's entire tone haha
I'd love a remake too but it's absolutely not going to happen, you're right they cancelled the Twisted Metal game they were secretly developing (I think screenshots leaked after the cancellation) and Sony seems to only want to pump up their AAA massive budget games that are all third person open world adventures. Really wish they'd create an incubator AA studio for their new or less experienced devs and give them smaller budgets to do stuff with older IPs.
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy yeah me too, also wish they would just set up a studio or two who would just do remakes/remaster in the style of how the crash and Spyro games were done.
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy Dude i want The Getaway so bad. I loved that game back in the day. If they never put it out on Premium i wish they would remaster it and Black Monday in a collection.
This is one of those that I'm a little loathe to revisit because I played a ton of it with someone who isn't around anymore.
