Yakuza 0 Director's Cut PS5 PS4

Update []: Fresh information from Nintendo suggests the newly announced Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut could come to PS5 after all.

In a press release from the Mario maker, it states that the expanded version of Kazuma Kiryu’s origin story will release “first” on Nintendo Switch 2, implying it’s a timed exclusive with multiformat versions to follow.

It’s unclear whether SEGA will retroactively add in the new content to existing versions of the game, or just re-release it entirely. Either way, it sounds like we’ll be able to play this on PlayStation eventually.

Original Story: Yakuza 0 is considered by many — this author included — to be the best instalment in SEGA's storied franchise. How excited we were, then, to learn that a Director's Cut of this classic crime drama is dropping in the summer.

There's one big problem if you're a PlayStation fan, however: Yakuza 0 Director's Cut is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2.

A kick in the gut, especially since this port features "never-before-seen cutscenes" and a brand new, four-player online mode called 'Red Light Raid'. Try saying that one a bunch of times fast!

To be brutally honest, we can't imagine this mode being anything truly unmissable, but developer RGG Studio does say that it boasts "up to 60 unlockable characters". We're looking forward to seeing what it actually is, at least.

Oh, and this version's also got an English dub — but only sickos would even dream of playing an RGG game with anything but the original Japanese voices.
