It usually ends up happening every year: there'll be one particular month where the release schedule goes bananas, and we're left wondering whether it'll be remembered as an all-timer.
Now, we're not saying that September 2026 is going to make history, but it's suddenly looking like one hell of a month for new PS5 games.
Thanks to The Blood of Dawnwalker locking in a 3rd September release date, we're now staring at a two-week period that features four potential bangers.
And the crazy part is that the second half of the month could soon become just as busy, depending on the dates that will inevitably be dished out over the summer.

Imagine the likes of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Halo: Campaign Evolved, or the new Fable settling for September as well. Sheesh.
So, right now, September 2026 looks like this:
- The Blood of Dawnwalker - 3rd September
- Phantom Blade Zero - 9th September
- Marvel's Wolverine - 15th September
- Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter - 17th September
In that order, we've got a highly anticipated RPG from ex-Witcher 3 devs, an action game that's looked incredible from the moment it was revealed, a PS5 exclusive from the masters at Insomniac Games, and what will almost certainly be one of the best JRPGs of the year.
At the time of writing, the latter half of 2026 is relatively sparse, but with GTA 6 seemingly secured for November, you're going to see a lot of titles targeting September and October over the coming months, in a bid to avoid Rockstar's juggernaut.

Will most of these even come out that month? We know how often games get delayed.
Really looking forwards to Wolverine - Insomniac have been amazing this generation.
I would be surprised if Capcom schedule Onimusha (another game Im really looking forwards to) near Sony's Wolverine as there seems to be some collaboration between Sony and Capcom of late - eg PSSR2 debut in RER.
The whole years been insane!
There should have been an option to pick more than one as Phantom Blade Zero is the only one I'm not particularly interested in.
I think a lot of games will be coming out in September and October. Everyone wants to avoid GTA6.
Think those 4 are my most anticipated games of this year, now that RE9 is out.
Hoping to see more of Sony's Insomniac's Disney's Marvel's Wolverine™. Looks like it's got their usual degree of polish.
Phantom blade 0 for me, being hyped since day 1 it was shown off
I am afraid that Dawnwalker will be witcher 3 wanna be with dated graphics.
I've gotten pretty burnt out on the superhero stuff, so Blood of th... sorry... The Blood of Dawnwalker is my easy answer, but I'm actually pretty interested in Phantom Blade as well.
This isn't a dig at Wolverine. I'm sure it'll be great and I'll play it eventually - I like Wolverine much more than most other superheroes, but superheroes just don't really do it for me anymore. I even booted up Spider-Man 2 after it came to PS+, but something about it just hasn't grabbed me.
1/4 of the games getting 2/3 of the votes is pretty good, I guess we all know why we're here. 😁
Is GTA actually going to release in November? Feels like it's already had at least 1 big delay, if not 2, but I'm not that familiar with their work.
Would it's scheduled November release be bad for this year's CoD or is that a different market? Things seemed a little off last year for it though that might have been Gamepass related.
I am excited for Wolverine because Insomniac, but most hopeful for Dawnwalker.
Trails just has too many entries.
So surprised that as many people as I thought don’t have comic book burnout by that vote
Wolverine is my most anticipated release of the year to come, not just September. I am very excited for Blood of Dawnwalker, Phantom Blade Zero I have to see a bit more of but I'm tentatively quite excited for that was well.
Just Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter for me day one. The rest il get on sale later on or if they hit PlayStation Plus first.
Everything except Trails for me. Can't wait for Phantom Blade in particular. After Wolverine, that is definitely my big one to look forward to. Everything S-Game has shown has looked amazing, so really hope it delivers.
Wolverine got the most votes but I know nothing about that game.
Just Trails for me. Maybe Phantom Blade 0, we'll see.
Well its wise to stay well away from the nuke that drops in Nov.
Always Trails
Wolverine, phantom blade and dawnwalker
I'm getting trails but on sale
100% Wolverine #1, but Phantom Blade Zero is hot on its heels, for sure
Imagine October will be pretty loaded too
Wolverine is the only Day 1. Phantom can wait for a sale. Dawnwalker looks mid, I’m sorry. Never had any interest in Tails.
@StitchJones yeah, I’m sure all those devs were saddened by the job security that Spider-Man and Wolverine have brought for the last decade plus, lol.
Wolverine & PB0 for me
Wolverine is going to have to do something different to stand out for me. Im not particularly into marvel to start with , and I just feel like there's not a lot left in the genre of game to do anything we haven't seen quite a few times at this point. Theyre kind of limited on narrative as well. But maybe they prove me wrong.
@psmr It hurts my soul that so many devs have lost their jobs, but man.... Not even half way through the year and I've added 5 games to the back log that WILL get played.
This year is freaking nuts, amazed that gaming studios at large are not drowning in cash, speaks to just how badly most s5udios and gaming directors captain their ships
My birthday month is stacked😳
Hope GTA gets delayed again just so I have enough time to play some of these. And keep in mind there are still no release dates for these potential 2026 bangers:
-Tides of Annihilation
-Crimson Moon
-Beast of Reincarnation
-A Whisper of Fall: Jinyiwei
-Control Resonant
-Mortal Shell II
I think wolverine may look great but play a bit too safe. Happy to be wrong but Spidey 2 is one game I'm glad I got via ps plus.
Beyond hyped for Phantom Blade Zero, and Wolfy looks like another super safe spiderman game, mas for the others, eh.
Everyone doing the GTA6 dance and trying to avoid November.
@Sergo people should be more concerned about playable games with good plots. Also the devs making the game are the Witcher 3 A dev team. CDPR has a bunch of new hires post that game whom I highly doubt will deliver the same Witcher 3 experiences based off studio as of late.
Wolverine seems very boring to me. Super hero games have never excited me glad others like these. With that said this year really has something for everyone and the current generation has a good stride now which we can all be happy about.
Blood of Dawnwalker for sure.
Something fresh finally.
All others can wait for a discount.
@Vaako007 It gets more boring when you realize this is Spiderman formula copy pasted with new setting. SM2 was already boring because of that. Which is surprising because Rocksteady managed to deliver all their Batmans so fresh and interesting.
I'm basically brand new to Trails having just played FC, but I finished it a few months ago and really enjoyed it so I'm keen to see where the story goes given how the first game ended.
@Leinad7 This is kind of my worry — after playing (and very much enjoying) three Spidey games, I feel like I'm pretty much sated — I don't want to burn out on the formula
Thank you for drafting my 2027 backlog.
Rather than ‘if’, to me it is a ‘in what order’.
I’ll go with Phantom Blade (wuxia fan), then Vampire RPG, then Wolverine, last JRPG I know nothing about but is on the list with other Titans.
@Vaako007 agreed but also one or several people only can not also make the witcher 3. The whole team is needed. I remain skeptical but hopeful.
Dawnwalker and Phantom Blade are super solid maybes for me that I’ll forget about if Halo or Fable gets a September release date. Or Onimusha. Capcom’s been so good to me. As of right now, I’m maybe coasting on Crimson Desert and first party Nintendo til September if we don’t get some release dates soon though.
@Sergo I’m tracking that the core staff of the Witcher 3 started the new studio. We cannot underestimate the influence of the directors and executives, as they set the tone. With that said, I wish the new dev team well as it’s not an easy business for a startup! Remember how the A team bioware mass effect veterans could not get their project off the ground? I think they will at least make a profit from this game. After the latest trailer for some reason I’m just not interested anymore. But like I said I wish them well.
