Insomniac has reiterated its plans to share more about Marvel's Wolverine during the Spring, even as its draws closer to its deadline. The season ends on 31st May 2026, meaning that the PS5 updates will drop in the next couple of weeks.
The developer reaffirmed the reveal plans on social media, responding to a fan questioning whether the updates are still coming. It said: "Yup, still happening this Spring."
Given the game's status as one of the biggest upcoming PS5 exclusives, there is potential for this news to be part of a State of Play livestream. Sony has traditionally put on a showcase during May for the past several years, and the news for the title could line up to where it's part of the event.
Alternatively, the team could do things on its own terms and upload articles to the PlayStation Blog and drop trailers onto YouTube. The game's release date of 15th September 2026 was revealed completely out of the blue, after all. It was this major update that had some fans questioning if the Spring update was still happening.

Either way, the studio confirms we're still on course to see more of Marvel's Wolverine by the end of next month.

An update on an update.
I'm not sure what it is but I'm struggling to find any excitement for this. I loved the Spiderman games but feel like I've had my fill. I hope it has enough of its own DNA to make me excited for it.
Can't shake the feeling that this will be a spider-like game dressed with Wolverine skin
@HaveTheSauce I think it will be quite different. The traversal and combat will have its own flavour, I imagine, and haven’t they said it won’t be open world?
I am interested in seeing more of this. I don’t play open world games and don’t care for Spider-Man, but a linear action adventure with Wolverine could be something I get into.
@Frmknst well to quote a famous saying - "it's not the size that matters but how you use it "
@HerlockSholmes I’m the Sherlock to your Herlock, Sholmes: exactly the opposite. I didn’t like the Spider-Man games, so I’m keen to see how Insomniac move on from that style of game play.
Looking forward to this. Insomniac aren't stupid. But anyone expecting this to play like Spiderman might be, though.
Franchise fatigue is very real. I don't care much for the Marvel universe as it is, but seeing these goons everywhere for the last decade means I actively avoid it now.
I can’t be the only one thinking Spring goes until June 21.
@LucasMcL exactly my thoughts.
The second I read their post I was like "Spring just started... right?"🤔
I'm getting the feeling that gamers these days (and some journalists too) are way too impatient. It's getting a bit... sad.
I was about to viciously correct this article, before realizing that there are two different official definitions of the seasons. According to the astronomical definition Spring doesn't end until June 21st, but according to the meteorological definition, Liam is absolutely correct.
https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/aboutseasons.html
Really though the main points are that (1) they're not wrong if they update us in early June, and (2) we all need to chill; the update will be no less awesome if it hits our eyeballs on June 22nd.
I’ve never been a massive fan of the Spider-man games (they’re fine but I just find the combat boring) but I am interested in this. I played the Origins movie tie-in a couple of years back and really enjoyed it. And there’s no reason why Insomniac can’t improve on that.
I really hope insomniac move away from superhero games for their next outing. Never a genre that interests me.
Geez tough crowd
One of my most anticipated titles of the year! I’m glad i dont have Marvel fatigue, since i basically stopped watching Marvel films after Endgame. And a wolverine game just sounds awesome. I believe there’s just been one decent Wolverine game in the past, it’s never been as prolific as spiderman games. I hope Insomniac nails this one was as well
@MrPeanutbutterz Is it? The new Tom Holland Spider-Man trailer smashed YouTube records and the Spider-Man 2 game is basically always in the charts even though it’s nearing three years old
Hopefully it means a State of Play is around the corner. No interest in this game, but interest in some other release dates getting announced for sure.
@get2sammyb I'm surprised too; I thought there was a lot more love for what Insomniac have been doing. The Spider-Man games seem near universally lauded, and yet here we are with a much greater diversity of opinion (myself among the naysayers) that would suggest otherwise.
I share @MrPeanutbutterz views on Marvel (and superheroes in general), but I am a fan of linear action games, which Wolverine appears to be, so I am genuinely curious to see how it turns out.
I’m interested to see more gameplay. I suspect there will be some Insomniac ingredients that will make it feel familiar, but inherently Wolverine should play differently from Spider-Man, and I expect the game will stand on its own as unique. We already know it will be more story driven and more violent and mature than Spider-Man, but I’m wondering how the controls, combat, and general design of the gameplay will work out. I know the development has been a bit rough and run into some snags the last couple years, but I believe that Insomniac will pull it together and this will be a good game and sell well.
@Th3solution Yeah, I agree with everything here
@Accipitridae People have lost their minds. They think Insomniac is going to swap Marvel for freaking Resistance when the former has outsold the latter probably 20 to 30 times over.
At some point just gotta accept it lol
I mean, as long as they show us enough gameplay I don't mind waiting. Wolvie ain't my favorite hero but hey, we might get a Pete cameo.
@get2sammyb
Its Spidey so there will always be someone willing to watch, just like Batman. But superhero fatigue is real.
"The season ends on 31st May 2026"
No, it doesn't. Back to school with you!
I'm surprised at how many people are against Superhero video games. As someone who enjoyed the X-men and Spiderman cartoons, I always wanted good games bases on these characters. And the 2 Spiderman ganes are some if my favourites of the last few years, so I can't wait for this.
I'm also really hoping the leaked X-men game is still real. I still don't think there has been an X-men game that has really been any good, besides the 90s sidescrollers
@get2sammyb MCU fatigue is real but Wolverine, Batman and Spider-Man have managed to always defy that fatigue. This is just the comments section being the comments section (vocal minority)
@get2sammyb It's the same stupid logic where people keep wanting Naughty Dog to go back to Jak & Daxter or Guerilla for Killzone.
@Boxmonkey If you didnt see the leaked roadmap when they had their massive hack then I;m afraid you will be disappointed to hear that at the time the proposed order of games after Spidey 2 were as follows; Venom spinoff (now either delayed or canned), Wolverine, Spidey 3 in 2028, Ratchet and Clank 2029, X-Men in 2030.
@Accipitridae yeah I’m hoping for something a bit more linear.
@get2sammyb can’t just cater to enthusiasts or the brand would disappear. Have to appeal to the masses 👊
@GamingGod I don't mind the whole "wide linear" thing, or something kind of semi-open like God of War, but I don't have time for fully open these days. I don't see the point in it; it always results in weaker content, much poorer pacing, etc.
Wasn't there a report/rumour that Wolverine would have just that - hub areas with more linear areas branching off?
@MrPeanutbutterz We're the opposite this time hehe. I'm currently enjoying Daredevil Born Again season 2 and definitely will watch Spidey: Brand New Day, Spidey Noir, and Punisher: One Last Kill. And i'm quite excited for Marvel Tokon and Wolverine.
But i can understand why you or some people feels fatigue with Marvel or superhero genre.
Personally, I’m totally stoked for it. If it plays even remotely close to what the PS3 Wolverine game was (and I know it will be even better - it’s Insomniac after all), it’s gonna be an absolutely AMAZING and incredibly fun game.
Really looking forwards to this - Insomniac always delivers.
@get2sammyb There’s a good soapbox article waiting to happen about Insomniac’s pivot to Marvel games.
@get2sammyb
I suppose I'm fatigued with some of the marvel movies - except Tom Hollands run as Spiderman.
But, Insomniacs games are just so good (on so many fronts), I'm really looking forwards to Wolverine and SM3.
I hope they can do for Wolverine what they have done for Spiderman, where they have done a great job of including the human sides / elements of the characters.
I really hope they do the story justice. With how poor Spider-Man 2 was story wise, and how poorly Sony studios have just done narrative in general over the last 5 years, I am holding my breathe on this one. I know the gameplay will slap.
@LogicStrikesAgain I have Marvel fatigue but the exceptions will always include Wolverine, Dead Pool or Venom.
@get2sammyb Considering that out of the small number of people who actively comment on here and clicked this article you have a few saying "yeah I'm burnt out on this", it really is.
That's not to say this stuff isn't massively popular still, but but since the MCU took hold there's been enough time for a whole new generation of fans to come about and I can see the appeal for them (and older fans too).
I'm fully aware of the reality here - this is a money-making endeavour, therefore they're gonna stick with what makes the most money. But that doesn't mean I'm not sick of the sight of these fanrchises, and I'd prefer Insomniac to use some of their wild creativity for something entirely new. That also ties into another point - I'm now aware that I'm nothing but a customer to be tapped for money because hey ho here's the millionth piece of Marvel media looking for a slice of my disposable. These things don't feel like events any more, rather just another item plopping off the capitalist conveyor belt. In fact, I'd say Star Wars is even worse than Marvel than this. That's a franchise I adored in my youth, but you couldn't pay me to watch anything to do with it now (though yes, I am interested in the new Pod Racer title, but that's purely because I'm starved for arcade racers, and some of the pedigree of the developer behind it).
Like I understand Taylor Swift is massively more popular than say Imperial Triumphant. That doesn't mean I'm gonna swap my Imperial Triumphant records for Swift's.
Its funny listening/reading some talking about how insomanic should do other things and the fatigue or the fact there so much talk about delays.
Lets just bring it back to reality and facts.
Insomanic has never delayed a game when they've announced the release date.
Super hero games have never been so good ever, so fatigue just really isn't a thing within video game superhero games.
We've literally had the Rocksteady Batman games and the insomanic series which are triple A. We've had a few notable ones but literally over the decades.
To the people who say insomanic should do something different their being held back.
Theyve literally made rachet and clank since ps2, they did resistance but it didnt hit like people think it did. Theyve done a few others but nothing really stuck.
Sunset overdrive really didnt sell that well.
They've probably made more money getting this Marvel deal than theyve made, with all of their secondary games combined. It just works.
And I find it even more crazy how kuch pressure people put on insomanic and claiming whats taking them so long, when the reality is, insomanic has carried ps5 pretty much its entire life cycle up till now.
Honestly in my eyes, insomanic right now is Sonys Flagship developer whos consistent. I think they beat out naughty.
Even if naughty dogs new game is a hit. It wont sell anywhere near as good as spiderman and wolverine
Marvel michigan wolverines 💛💙 will be a amazing game.cant wait. Word up son
Definitely one of my most anticipated games of the year and will probably be a GOTY contender since Insomniac always delivers.
Insomniac is probably working on other games like a new Ratchet and Clank and Rivet(which I can't wait for) and maybe a new IP but people have to realize that the Marvel games bring in a lot of money and Insomniac is amazing at them so far.
Spider Man 3/Miles Morales will be badass too whenever they reveal it, I'm still hoping for the Venom game but can totally understand if it doesn't happen given the sad passing of Tony Todd.
I get that people want them to do Resistance still but there is a reason why they stopped making those games, and I definitely enjoyed them. I'd rather Killzone come back because the Helghast are more iconic then the Chimera.
People having Superhero fatigue is just their preference but that doesn't mean Insomniac should stop making the Marvel games, especially if it's the most popular Marvel character which is Spider-Man(My favorite) and one of the most badass superhero's in Wolverine. I also think that they have another Marvel game in the pipeline with someone else as well.

@Bez87 I'm not surprised if Insomniac have a R&C fatigue. In the span of 23 years, so far the series has total of 17 games and 15 of those made by Insomniac. That's more than any Sony 1st party games except MLB.
I'm not sure what kind of story and gameplay they can do for the next R&C if they want to keep the series fresh...
You know what you get with Marvel. I personally like it and the Spider-Man games were good. But Spider-Man is awesome regardless of what he’s in. I wish they made something else. The only superhero game that was truly awesome and surprising was Arkham Asylum when it came out
@DarianStarfrog So what? Don't lump me into your brain-dead takes.
Spring ends on June 20th; the summer solstice is on June 21st.
As expected, we will see more at the Sony State of Play/Showcase in late May or early June.
As for Wolverine, I hope the writing is much better than Spider-Man 2. This actually might be a different team (I hope), as the Spiderman 2 team should be on Venom or Spiderman 3 now.
As much as Sony likes to fully milk successful IPs, I would like to see Insomniac do something different with one of its 2nd or 3rd teams.
@darylb24 yes I need an x-man game
I trust insomniac so I'm sure the combat will be extra good the story I don't know
Why I have a feeling they delay this until early 2027
@TDHorizon i would take that road map with a grain of salt , as nothing of that was ever actually announced or made official and could have mostly been concepts of games that may or may not be made.
I hope it's better than Spider-Man 2, which was bloody terrible.
And yeah, I wouldn't shed a tear, if the Superhero genre, just died for the next decade or two. It's like with Westerns, back in the 40:s-60:s, where the fatigue, basically killed the genre, for the next two decades.
But people love consuming the same stuff, on TV, Movies and Videogames, over and over again...
Clock’s ticking, Insomniac!
Wolverine is a great character, but man I'm having a hard time being excited for this game. I don't think there's anything inherently off or bad with the little we've seen so far either, and Insomniac obviously have the pedigree to ease any doubts...which leads me to conclude it must be Disney's "quantity over quality" output for their franchises that has just left me somewhat numb to new "content".
Maybe some gameplay and story overview will help, but as a Marvel fan since the 80s and given that Wolverine is "one of the biggest upcoming PS5 exclusives", I can't help but feel that I should be excited for this, not feeling like I couldn't care less 🤷🏻♂️
The fatigue is real.
Looking forward to the new Wolverine. Would love some ports of old Wolverine games like X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
@PuppetMaster exactly.
My question for most is how exactly do we have super hero fatigue? When we have had just a handful of top tier games.
Insomanic have only done 2 main spiderman games and a small spin off, with a 3rd coming to round off the trilogy.
We had an avengers game which was pretty poor in its deliverance but the idea was great.
Lets jot talk about kill the justice league.
And we've had the batman trilogy with spin off.
And a couple of decent fighting games.
Its not like we are crammed with souls like carbon copies every other month with the same type of art style, over and over again at every game show.
And like you said rachet the amount of games, surely that is fatigue by now.
And if we take a look at Santa Monica, all they have done is God Of War for nearly 30 years. Seems like even when we thought we may get something fresh from them with barlog, that seemingly seems to be a God Of War spin off game.
I just don't know what people actually want from insomanic, majority didnt care kuch for what they did outside of rachet
