PS Plus

Sony has today confirmed it's raising the price of PS Plus Essential, the service's base tier, for new subscribers.

The increase comes into effect from this Wednesday, 20th May 2026 due to "ongoing market conditions", and raises the prices of one-month and three-month memberships. It seems the 12-month option isn't impacted. If you let your current PS Plus membership expire, you will need to start paying the increased price.

Subscription Length Current Price New Price from 20th May 2026
1 Month Subscription £6.99 / $9.99 / €8.99 £7.99 / $10.99 / €9.99
3 Month Subscription £19.99 / $24.99 / €24.99 £21.99 / $27.99 / €27.99

One-month subscriptions to PS Plus Essential have gone up by £1 / $1 while the three-membership will increase by £2 / $3.

The price increases shall only apply to "select regions", but Sony doesn't clarify which ones. "This price change does not apply to current subscribers (except in Turkey and India) unless the existing subscription changes or lapses," it confirms in a social media post.

Sony's decision to increase the price of PS Plus Essential for new members comes not long after it hiked the prices of PS5 consoles themselves. This means that a brand new PS5 owner would be paying more for both the console and the PS Plus membership after Wednesday, 20th May 2026.

PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium aren't mentioned by Sony in the social media post, so they seem safe at their current prices for now. However, we wouldn't rule out those going up in the future, too. What's your take on the price rise? Let us know in the comments below and vote in our Poll.
