If you're a racing game fan, odds are you're either playing Forza Horizon 6 already, or you're patiently waiting for that PS5 version to drop later in the year.
Those in the latter category may be interested to know that one of the generation's most interesting racers now has a playable demo available, and we'd definitely encourage you to give it a shot.
Screamer, which launched at the end of March, is an arcade racing title that combines anime-inspired storytelling with complex, aggressive action, and the result is unlike anything else on the market.
You use the right stick to drift your highly stylised car around winding courses; driving fast builds up boost; and using boosts enables powerful strikes that can knock out opponents.
Each driver has their own special ability too, giving the game a twist of hero shooter for good measure.
I didn't love everything about the game, but I have to give huge respect to Milestone for taking a big swing. It's really refreshing to play a new racer that goes against the grain and tries some fresh ideas.
The demo gives you access to the "early events of the Tournament" — that being the single player campaign.
If you're a fan of racing games I'd absolutely suggest you give it a try. Even if you don't have much interest in the story, the driving and all the mad mechanics it throws around makes Screamer well worth investigating.

This is so timely as I just completed the (surprisingly addicting) Adventure of Elliot demo. The demo gods are smiling on us lately. Downloading immediately, I've been wanting to try this for a while.
This went on sale in Smyth's today as well. €59.99 (which is already €10 cheaper than digital) down to €39.99 (Smyth's UK pricing no doubt similar).
I'll be picking it up on my way home shortly.
Very interested in trying this demo, and I applaud the Devs for doing things differently.
Playing FH6 on game pass while I wait for a PS5 pro version maybe later in the year. But theres always room for another driving game! 👍
I'm having a blast playing The Crew: Motorfest right now. I'd argue that it scratches a more similar itch to Motorsport, and it's frequently on sale.
I was curious about this one, I'm glad they're offering a demo! Maybe it will go on sale next week?
I've been very much wanting to play this, but obviously it's a little harder to find physicals of this game, but I'll gladly test out the demo!
Interested in this one so will give it a go this weekend between Horizon 6 and one of the backlog games.
Pity, there's not enough real combat on the track despite the fact those are crazy illegal racing (only ramming). Would like to see some power ups to gather during racing, like in Wipe Out.
I had my eye on the game ever since Digital Foundry did the DF Retro on Screamer. I tried the demo and while I really like the art direction, cyberpunk aesthetic and the music, I just can't get into the driving itself. I guess I just like racers like Wipeout and F-Zero that have just a little more, how do I say, arcade-y mechanics to them? Unless it's just me being a dumb-dumb with the game lol.
I bought this on release and absolutely loved it. Looks incredible and plays sooo nicely. Soundtrack is an absolute banger too!
Missed this one but it looks awesome! "Screamer" Is an amazing title too 😂
I wonder if they know
What we scream in Tokyo
"Ahh Gojjirrraaaa"
Nice 😎 I like the sound of Screamer, but it's always felt like it's one of those games that really does need a demo, as you're either going to love it or hate it over that control scheme!
