Who had this on their Nintendo Direct bingo card, then? Kingdom Hearts 4 lives, but there’s still no release date attached.
Square Enix showed off some new gameplay footage of the highly anticipated title, showing protagonist Sora in the downtown Tokyo-style environment it’s been teasing ever since this project was first revealed several years ago.
It certainly looks like Kingdom Hearts gameplay, with that familiar blend of action and RPG. We also get a glimpse of some summons, but there’s really not much meat here.

If I was to be charitable, I’d say this looks early, and the lack of a release date means it’s probably still years away.
Interestingly, the demo shown during the Nintendo Direct displayed the HUD and button prompts on the screen, but that’s all been removed from this official upload on the series’ official YouTube channel.

What a rich saga to unpack, and I mean: the Nintendo -Square relationship. Great dramatic arcs. A breakup, a cold war, a slow reconciliation, and now what looks like a genuine renaissance.
Some of you know that I'm highly allergic to KH but I am genuinely happy that you got your tailer guys! Square- Enix is sure busy.
what a blow to sony by square enix with the new trailer at the nintendo direct.
@johnedwin
Kingdom Hearts shown at Nintendo Direct
New Final Fantasy game shown at Nintendo Direct.
I guess this shows how dead PS is in Japan now at this point.
I really wasn’t expecting much from this until after FF7 Revelation, but what a pleasant surprise! I’m sure next year will be the more in-depth reveals, new worlds and all that, and if I may be cautiously optimistic I could see this coming sometime in 2028.
@johnedwin this is what I was thinking seeing the trailer live. Kingdom Hearts used to be a massive Sony exclusive during the ps2 era. Now Nintendo just announced you can play every game natively on the switch 2. Having KH on a handheld that you can pick up and play any time makes the switch 2 versions more preferable, if they still run well that is
Definitely wasn't expecting seeing KH4 but I'll gladly take any new info.
It maked sense though, announcing this in combination with the rest of the games on switch 2.
I don't think there's any indication that this is running on PS5. It's the same trailer on Nintendo's Youtube page as on Kingdom Hearts's official page, so it could even be Switch 2 footage.
Yes, I realise you're just doing search engine optimization, but it's getting increasingly silly and somewhat annoying.
This trailer was very much giving Final Fantasy versus XIII to me
I ALMOST FLIPPED MY HOT COFFEE ON MYSELF WHEN THE TRAILER PLAYED
This looked much better than the Switch 2 version that is for sure.
With that said, i am afraid this still looks very early. To a point where it doesn't look like they made much progress at all.
I hope to be wrong. But i don't see this coming out before 2028.
@charliecarrot That is intentional.
@Nem definitely still unpolished. Not a 2027 release that’s for sure.
@johnedwin Is it a blow for Sony when the game has big fanbase on PS and will still launch day 1 on PS5?
@PloverNutter Kingdom Hearts stop being PS exclusives since the day Square made Chains of Memories exclusively for GBA and that's like 22 years ago.
KH3 was so terrible that I'm convinced they're taking forever just so people forget and buy this one for nostalgia. KH2 was the peak and I doubt they'll be able to come close to that high again if KH3 was a sign of what's to come.
@johnedwin
it’s easier to burn bridges than to build them!
No one could ever convince me kingdom hearts is bad. Just seeing snippets of this gets me so hyped. It might be my most anticipated even moreso than ff7 revelations
I don't know, it just looks like total ***** somehow. But then again, the Switch 2 is the lead platform, so it's no surprise. Still, with graphics like that, I’d expect a consistent 60fps, even with UE5. But hey, it’s SE, and for them, optimization at launch is a foreign concept...
BTW, I still find it funny that China keeps ignoring the Switch 2. No Tides of Annihilation, Black Myth: Wukong, or Genshin Impact.
It seems someone isn't exactly on board with the CCP or Nintendo?😜
There was a lack of Disney in that trailor
Never been a Kingdom Hearts Fan, but the trailer for this looks really good! I might have to check out the remastered Trilogy.
Why so many fans get on defensive mode when a saga that used to be only at PlayStation gets shown in some other event?
Suddenly there’s claims that the games aren’t as appealing anymore and apparently every franchise that does this like Final Fantasy, Persona, Kingdom Hearts or Stellar Blade are “double-crossing” or downright “betraying” Sony just over announcing a game elsewhere as it’s not even skipping PS, while also trying to downplay said platform in which was announced, petty childish behavior imo.
@PloverNutter that collection is coming to PS5 too FYI with a physical release.
@KawakiisaFraud There is the Bladed Fury & Xuan Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains, both are Chinese developed games and are on Nintendo.
Lmao PS5 getting sloppy seconds with this trailer, enjoyed knowing it was shown off at a Direct first lmao
@IllusiveMan First time hearing this from sony fans. See youll get used to their mentailty. Is a simple concept.. if you are not 1 exculsive to sony 2 you even attempt to be on any other box 3 you make 10/10 game but skip playstation.. You the most trash game to ever exist.. signed every playstation fan ever (i had this behaviour in ps3 era so i get it)
it is true that nintendo announced a lot of games, but most are ports that will run extremely poor on the switch 2... stellar blade, onimusha and kingdom hearts 4 are simply out of its league and will be crushed in performance metrics with sub 30fps being the norm. it would be foolish to play those versions if another option exists...
@KoopaTheGamer I am pretty sure any game that was shown in the direct was showing it running on Switch 2 console itself.
Stellar Blade in the direct has Switch 2 button layout.
I wonder how convoluted the story will be this time
That was unimpressive but it seems to be a ways off so hopefully the game will come together before it ships.
Is it just me or does this look a bit meh and bland looking compared to the other titles
Not really care about KH but I'm happy for the fans this guy's are the real gaming warriors because only them can endure this much without seeing/knowing barely nothing about the game
@johnedwin how so ? literally not everything needs to be announced at a sony event lol.
@IllusiveMan
Which fans you're refering to in here?
@DartLOD That's nonsense. KH3 is great. The only issue was how the ending was rushed, but they fixed it with the remind dlc.
I was very shocked but also relieved to see the 2nd KH4 trailer show at yesterday's Nintendo Direct.
Hopefully this means we'll get another trailer sometime this year, with a Late 2027 release window.
@PloverNutter I love your Green Ranger avatar btw, are the comics worth reading?
I hope that focus on realistic art style goes away. The trailer was really rough
