You can certainly tell that Exodus is being spearheaded by ex-Mass Effect developers, because it looks near identical to BioWare's beloved series in terms of structure.

Much like fellow Mass Effect clone The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, Exodus has been floating around for a while. But as we steadily approach its 'early 2027' release window, developer Archetype Entertainment is keen to show off much more of the sci-fi RPG.

So here's 20 whole minutes of the thing, as director Chris King explains the ins and outs of what we're seeing. The video covers the overarching story, characters, dialogue, exploration, and, of course, combat.

Here's a quick breakdown of the main points:

  • You play as an established character called Jun, but you can be male or female, and customise their appearance to a degree
  • There's a main cast of party members who you get to know over the course of the game
  • There are a number of romance options
  • Gameplay is a mix of combat encounters and environmental traversal / puzzles
  • You can be a good guy (Paladin) or a slightly less good guy (Immortal)
  • Your decisions and actions impact the story's direction and how characters view you
  • Combat is built around cover-based shooting with abilities and party commands

So far, so very Mass Effect — there's even the Paragon and Renegade equivalent — but look, I'm not going to complain about blatant inspirations if Exodus turns out to be good. This deep dive does make it seem like a promising project.
