Mighty Cuphead Adventure is a brand new game from Studio MDHR, and it's a retro action platformer that's about as authentic as it gets.
You can check out the teaser trailer below:
It's a side-scrolling game in which you run, jump, and shoot your way through an 8-bit adventure. It's coming to modern consoles and PC, but what's seriously impressive is that it's not just 8-bit in style, it's made with the limitations of the hardware of the time.
"With Mighty Cuphead Adventure, we aren’t just taking inspiration from the classics of the 1980s…we’re building the game with the technology of the era," reads the official website. "That’s right: the project is programmed in classic Assembly Language and designed with the exacting specifications of the SEGA Master System home gaming console in mind."
In other words, it's compatible not only with modern platforms, but it's also technically playable on SEGA Master System. "This is not just a retro-style game: it’s a game built from the ground up with all the unique limitations of a 1980s video game studio."
It appears that Studio MDHR even plans to put the game on a Master System cartridge, such is its commitment to making an authentically 8-bit experience.
Lots of games are inspired by this era, or are built to ape the look and feel of 8-bit classics, but Mighty Cuphead Adventure is going all the way. It's an ambitious and impressive feat.
As for the game itself, details are fairly thin, and there's no date as yet. Hopefully it's not too far down the line.

Now if they actually release a version on cartridge....
A new Cuphead game? I have to say, it's really my cup of tea.
...I'll be honest, I brewed that one up for a while and that's the best I had. Goodbye. ☕🚪
p.s. love the retro-sega nod
Maybe I'll actually be able to beat this one?
...
Please?
The concept of slowing down your development to stick to the gimmick, gotta respect it
Hopefully we can purchase a rom so I can use it with my Mega Everdrive because the Mega Drive is backwards compatible with Master System.
Maybe that's just me but I don't remember any master system game looking this good
Why limit themselves? Make it in the style of 8 bit if that's the aim but unless you are also putting it out on the mastersystem give yourself some leeway
Holy shiz, this looks mint! Master Systems is so damn fine.
I’m jealous of people who are naturally good at games like Cuphead. The art is downright gorgeous. But the gameplay is absolutely brutal… but absolutely fair. I got through either the first part or second then dropped the game for a new release (can’t remember what. I didn’t start Cuphead years after it released). I’ve watched people online play it and they’re friggen impressively nuts at it. Tip of my cup to them. I’ll probably pick it back up eventually
@MichaelNau it looks like some of the best looking, later master system games like land of illusion and sonic 2 (both came out around 1992)
