Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — a dark and gritty take on the classic franchise — has been re-announced... and this time, the action game specialists at PlatinumGames are at the helm.
You may remember that The Last Ronin was originally revealed back in 2023 via a very brief teaser trailer. The project fell silent after that, and then in there were whispers of a cancellation a year later, in 2024.
This was because the original developer, Black Forest Games, lost roughly half of its employees to a round of mass layoffs.

The Last Ronin was also being published by THQ Nordic back then, but things clearly weren't working out. At some point, it was picked up by Paramount Games Studios, and the company's now managed to get PlatinumGames onboard.
This still feels like early days, though. The reveal trailer has no gameplay, and is essentially just another teaser. Hopefully we see something soon.

The last Platinum TMNT game was so bad. Hopefully we get the NG4 Platinum for this as that was a return to form for them.
From practically dead game to have platinum games involve in the project this is massive turn around
@Yor-sama it’s MGS Revengeance all over again
Yoooooo this is awesome! Some cool revivals in this show with this and Wolf Among Us 2.
I really like Last Ronin so i hope P* will do a good job with this adaptation.
<sarcasm>What's next, a gritty Garfield game?</sarcasm>
Even though we're talking two different incarnations of the Turtles, interesting just how the guest spot in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds might end up pushing this dedicated Turtles game...
Glad this is still a thing!
Where’s the guy with the TMNT profile pic that’s always talking about this franchise? I bet he’s pretty psyched right now 😄
Hopefully it won't be another souls like slapped on with a nostalgia skin, we shall see when gameplay is released 🤔
Disappointing that after so long it was just a teaser and no date. But I guess I am glad it's not cancelled.
Platinum Games at the helm of a gritty TMNT take has me very excited.
I share the concern of it being a souls like, but hopefully we get something more like Nier Automata.
I hope they really pour money into this and it won't looks ugly af aka last Ninja Gaiden game which feels like 10 years old technically.
Another thing is: Writing should be really good because otherwise they will just waste the one of the most popular TMNT stories ever.
@Hyena_socks @JalapenoSpiceLife
Lol it's Platinum Games, why would they do a Soulslike when their whole gist is their own unique brand of gameplay?
@Scottyy
I thought Ninja Gaiden 4 looked fine. Writing wasn't good though. Still, glad it was Platinum Games rather than Team Ninja that did Ninja Gaiden 4, they would have used katana engine. Nioh 3 looked like a PS2 game and had worst pop in.
Due to sync issues with the stream I totally missed this announcement. Think I was typing a comment then noticed I was no longer live on the vid.
The IP and studio combination is a promising mix.
@Yomv7t that's their M.O. so I hope you're right and they continue on the path they have. But I can also see a gritty single player action game latching onto a popular genre.
They probably won't, they don't have to to get an audience, but I'm going to be a bit apprehensive until we see more.
BEST GAME OF THE DECADE EASYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO NINJA GO NINJA GO! GO NINJA GO NINJA GO!
@LowDefAl I completely forgot about that case too buy yeah this is a mega W for the game and for us
@DennisReynolds
Yep. People forget this, but Platinum isn't always automatic. They dropped the ball with TMNT big time
