We already knew that September's release schedule was bordering on absurd, but now that we're done with all of the summer gaming events — State of Play, Summer Game Fest, and the Xbox Games Showcase — it's basically the whole of the autumn / fall that looks insane.
This is quite possibly the most packed period for new games I've seen — at least in regards to the PS5. The sheer number of high profile titles that are releasing in the space of about a month and a bit is nuts.
Of course, there's a big reason for this, and it's called GTA 6. What is probably the most anticipated game release ever has forced publishers of all shapes and sizes to stay away from its blast radius.
Rockstar's open wordler launches on the 19th November (yes, the date seems to be sticking), pushing so many titles to get out ahead of the madness. In particular, this has led to September and October being monstrously overcrowded.
So, let's take a moment to look at the current schedule. We've listed every notable PS5 game that's set to release between the last week in August, and the end of October.
Late August
- Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 - 27th August
- Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy - 27th August
- Star Wars Zero Company - 27th August
- Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters - 28th August
September
- The Blood of Dawnwalker - 3rd September
- Halloween - 8th September
- Marvel's Wolverine - 15th September
- RuneScape: Dragonwilds - 15th September
- Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter - 17th September
- Dune: Awakening - 22nd September
- Silent Hill: Townfall - 24th September
- Control Resonant - 24th September
- Valor Mortis - 24th September
- Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush - 24th September
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword - 25th September
- Gothic 2 Complete Classic - 29th September
- Minecraft Dungeons 2 - 29th September
- Samson: A Tyndalston Story - September
October
- Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered - 1st October
- End of Abyss - 1st October
- Rayman Legends Retold - 1st October
- Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition - 1st October
- Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve - 2nd October
- Star Wars: Galactic Racer - 6th October
- Planet Zoo 2 - 13th October
- Castlevania: Belmont's Curse - 15th October
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 - 23rd October
- Phantom Blade Zero - 29th October
- No Rest for the Wicked - October
September's still stupidly stacked, but remember, it was only a few days ago that Phantom Blade Zero — arguably one of the most hyped games on this list — was delayed into October. It was originally set for the 9th September.
The question, then, is whether similar delays are inevitable for some of these other titles. Are publishers really looking at this schedule and thinking they'll all be fine?
Maybe if you're Marvel's Wolverine it's not a huge deal, but what about, say, Control Resonant? Onimusha? Silent Hill? There's a lot of competition.
Part of me wants to see what would happen if GTA 6 was hit with yet another delay. Would some of these games scramble to take advantage of an empty November?
But as it stands, this is what the autumn / fall of 2026 looks like. So apologise to your wallet in advance, and then start cherry picking PS5 games in the comments section below.

You know I'm cooked when I've ticked over half the boxes....
@ShogunRok Modern Warfare 4, not 2. I know they all bend together 😂
I dont plan on buying any of them at launch should be an option
theres quite a few i will play but later on
I'm pretty much waiting on...
Mortal Shell 2
Lords Of The Fallen 2
Darksiders 4
And VIrtua Fighter Crossroads
No rest for the gamer and no way I am picking them all up at launch.
Also: I feel like this September and October we might just want to create a support group for reviewers. Consider strong Italian coffee already brewed.
It's ironically hilarious that by trying to avoid competing with GTA6, so many of these publishers have...created a situation where they are competing with each other.
not buying any at launch, but will eventually pick up blood of dawn walker, control and wolverine
@JohntheRaptor Just imagine if GTA6 get's delayed again 💀
Lots to play this AUTUMN
Dawnwalker, Control, Onimusha, Valor Mortis, Phantom Blade, Silent Hill, and Castlevania are all games I plan to buy, though I don’t know if I’ll get them all at launch, because… well, I’m not made of money.
Like gta vi, most games on the list I'll purchase when on sale/discounted. I'm done buying games on release. You get a better version, cheaper just by waiting.
Wolverine is the only one i’m planning to buy for now. And i’m keeping an eye out on Control Resonant, Silent Hill Townfall and Phantom Blade Zero.
Are there even games releasing in November at this point? Or will it just be GTA6? 😂
It would be hilarious if rockstar suddenly decided to release GTA 6 earlier in september.
Just wolverine at launch, then wait till GTA6 comes in November. The rest will be sales down the line.
For me there’s only wolverine but I probably won’t get that straight away and will wait till it’s discounted. Now the new year is when the games I’m interested comes out, stranger than heaven, persona 4, tomb raider, ff7 part 3, fable, resident evil Veronica . This will keep me busy 😂
Zero Company is missing from the poll @ShogunRok
@ShogunRok you have Rayman Legends Retold listed under October but with 1st of Semptember as date, which should be 1st of October obviously.
There's going to be a fair few games that are going to struggle. The one I fear for the most is Control, Alan Wake 2 took a long time to become profitable and that was a more known quantity.
@Oram77 Same reaction for me, but the opposite issue (there's three I want).
Of course it is a joke! Still no release date for Road Kings!
At launch? Just Onimusha and Trails SC. Lots of certified bangers here, but there are only so many hours in a day, so I'll play what I want the most straight away. The others can wait.
The release slate is busy, but truth be told the only games I’m 100% getting are Control and Castlevania. I know I want more, but I’m feeling wishy washy because there’s so many games.
If there’s ever been a time that reviews will be super important, it’s now.
Beast of Reincarnation is also scheduled for August. (Likely a day one for me)
Thankfully, there's not a single game there that's a Day 1 for me.
Resonance: A Plague Tale
Zero Company
Dawnwalker
Wolverine
Less than many I'm guessing but 3 of the 4 within a week so probably won't all be day one.
Will depend how they turn out on release which gets prioritsed.
I want 8 of the games in the list (already have No Rest in EA) but there's no way I can possibly afford them at launch or without "Buy 2 get 3" deals that we get on retailers here now and then. I'll stretch all these until December it seems.
How is this not as hurtful to your sales as releasing in November with gta? Ur literally competing with far more actual threats to your sales now crammed into September. Not everybody has the money or time to buy and play all these releases
@Oram77 That’d be hilarious imagine the publishers getting upset because now they had to settle for an over crowded month just to get rug pulled.
Aight screw it, time to sell a kidney.
DAY ONES for PS5: Zero company, wolverine, control, galactic racer.
WAIT FOR SALE/REVIEWS for PS5: Townfall, onimusha, rayman, AC8
GAMEPASS SERIES S: Plague tale and Gears Eday
I expect a few games in the list to change their release schedules. The only guaranteed commercial hit so far is Wolverine (look at the pre-order performance!)
We've gone from "there are no PS5 games, this generation is a bust!" to "OMG, there are too many PS5 games, I can't play half the ones I'm interested in, why are they all coming out in the same window?!?!"
Nice problem to have.
@4th_at_EVO It's gonna be a blood bath one way or another...
Grand theft auto 5 the g.o.a.t. 🐐. Grand theft auto is the biggest video games released ever it's going to be interesting Word up son
Outside of Wolverine and maybe the silly named vampire game there isn't all that much here for me weirdly. Maybe Onimusha, talking of that the trailer had the worst VA I have heard in literal decades in a AAA game lol. It was on par with the the OG resi 🤣
Where is the option for “none/I don’t buy games at launch”?
@Judal27 yeah that is a valid point. I get part of the problem though. If you push to February (early tax time in USA),when the shine of the last seasons game drops wears off, then come time for game awards- you kinda get screwed over. Better to gamble and release in a saturated market in the fall and hope to have enough momentum to get some awards. End of year Awards give free marketing and usually some sales where gamers who wouldn’t usually buy “that type of game”, are more willing to try them out.
September and October looking well crazy, all because of a wee game called GTA!!
Only one game out of that list has my attention and that’s Wolverine. Would be funny for the release schedule if GTA had a last minute delay to 2027 and nothing much releases in November.
Just Wolverine and COD Modern Warfare 4 for me. Control Resonant I might have thought about getting that but they took the game in a different direction compared to the first, other than that Rayman Legends remake and Star Wars Galatic Racer are maybes.
It's not coming to Playstation but Gears of War E-Day is another game I care about.
Control, MGS, Trails for me
Just Castlevania and Plague Tale for me.
Maybe star wars zero company at launch but several in the following months.
Playing thru trails of cold steel and have the sky remake so I'll be busy with those before chapter 2.
Definitely control and eventually wolverine but I'm nervous about how it shapes out
Plenty I'd like to play, but the only two I'm really excited for is Onimusha & Dawnwalker. That said, "buy at launch" for me means "keep money aside, wait for reviews, if it's a technical mess try and wait and then fold and buy the technical mess anyway"
Actually insane how stacked September and October are. I have a feeling something will be delayed to December, especially if GTA6's November release sticks.
It's so stupid and watch them complain nobody buys our game which we rushed out the door broken to not compete with GTA that may release ....
Star Wars Zero Co. I'm buying as well
@ShogunRok "but now that we're done with all of the summer gaming events"
Oh come on Shogun, you posted this right AFTER Nintendo announced it's 50 minute Nintendo Direct for tomorrow with a 90 minute Tree house Live after.
Even after getting The Witcher 3 on Switch you still give them no respect at all. 😝
YourekillingmeSmalls.gif 😂
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2026/06/nintendo-direct-announced-for-tomorrow-9th-june-2026
Wolverine and Star Wars Zero Company are my two definite day 1s and I’m leaning towards Onimusha, Phantom Blade Zero, Control Resonant and Silent Hill Townfall.
What's an "Open Wordler"?
Not purchasing anything. Got to many in backlog. Been ac valhalla for months and not finished the main gsme or done any dlc. I am at 120 hrs so far.
TiTS Second Chapter is the only day 1 buy for me. But opting to get it on PC rather than PS5. Might get Wolverine next year sometime in a sale if it comes down to a good price. Probs get Onimusha around Xmas and Phantom Blade in the new year.
What a fall man! Great games are waiting for sure...
My baby is due in September, so I don’t know how much gaming I’ll get in that month, but Wolverine and Control: Resonance are it for me. Marvel comfort food and Remedy got me all sorted. Excited about Townfall, but that can wait. Phantom Blade Zero looks like a last second preorder if the reviews say, yup, it’s amazing.
@RobN i've never ran out of games to play lol , i've run out of time to play them in more then having any games to play.
Only picked two, not interested in the majority of these games. No rest and Runescape (which is only a maybe). Would of ticked Dune but it's releasing on GP so I'll play it there. I very rarely if ever buy SP games at launch.
I only selected a few. While more than a few look good and promising, day 1 for most of these doesn’t seem necessary.
I take pleasure in knowing that, come November, some people will have a backlog as large as mine
I'll definitely be picking up Samson: A Tyndalston Story to tide me over until The Last Ronin launches!
This isn't because of GTA. This is because of the gaming community getting upset by release dates and pressuring Rockstar to delay GTA for a year and a half. It it weren't for this attitude, GTA would have been out for ages and wouldn't be an issue.
@ShogunRok You forgot to include Marvel Tokon and Beast of Reincarnation.
For me:
2026 is really packed and i don't even have the money for all these games lol.
No doubt bucking the trend, I have to vote for Planet Zoo 2. I did not expect to get into the first one as I did. I got it just to have something totally different to play for a bit and expected to mess around for a few weeks like I had with the Jurassic world games they make.
Then I watched a few YouTube videos. Then I was like you can do WHAT. Then I realised how insanely deep the design tools are. And that was me GONE.
Thousands of hours later, having become really good at a graphic design/construction game in a way I’d never even contemplated … I just know that once that releases I probably won’t care about anything else for a long time!
Control Resonant and rayman origins for me. I would like to play wolverine but it’s from Marvel. Marvel own by Disney and Disney is one of the most disgusting genocide support brand
Its not looking to bad for me.
Dawn of the blood walker, Oninusha, Rayman Legends/Origins, Belmont's curse and maybe no rest for the wicked.
I imagine with the direct Nintendo will perhaps add a game or two to this list like Fire Emblem or Duskbloods.
None at launch. Already have quite the backlog. But 5-8 of those I plan on buying eventually.
After finishing the Onimusha demo I'm kinda glad that's no longer a day one purchase and one for further down the line as wasn't totally sold on it. Also the pricing seems a bit OTT after Pragmata was mid-range. For me September will be all about Townfall and Control Resonant. Nice steels for both and nearly half the price of that damn Onimusha one!
There's over 10 games I want in that window. Will be lucky to play 2 or 3.
For me, i'll basically be one per month with GTA in November:
August - Star Wars Zero Company (not listed in poll btw)
September - Wolverine
October - COD MW4
Fable has also already moved from this release slot to February. Wise move probably.
I’m only down for a couple of these at launch, others I’ll pick up down the line hopefully in a sale.
This is good news for gamers that like to wait and save money. Most of these games will be 30%-50% off by December.
@SoonForget They absolutely will. Sept-Oct will be a bloodbath. We're going to see studio closures, and many of these games will not get a sequel.
@stefan771 this makes no sense lol. What does the gaming community have to do with the fact that the game isn't ready??
The real problem is see is that almost zero devs have considered June or July ad prime release dates. Would have avoided gta AND canablizing their sales with other competitors. Really annoying we have to wait months just to get swarmed with too many games. I guess we should feel blessed to have so many options though. Just wish more was coming out the next couple months
@amatmulisha based
The Sinking City 2 & Grounded 2 are also in August @ShogunRok
Lol NO other game will be releasing in November haha. Personally I don't care much for GTA. May give 5 another go as I go it cheap on Steam.
A little dry over the summer, but in autumn there's plenty to keep gamers busy until GTA 6 arrives.
Sorry but if this is just an elaborate joke I'm gonna be pissed!
I don’t buy at launch anymore. Too often games are released in an unfinished state then patched over and over. I wait for reviews now, even for games I really want like GTA VI, Wolverine or Fable.
