Xbox has announced that Undead Labs’ zombie shooter threequel State of Decay 3 will launch on PS5 in 2027.
It’ll mark the first time a State of Decay game has launched on Sony’s console.
Check out a new trailer above.
The video blurb reveals:
"The zombie apocalypse nearly wiped out humankind. Years after the initial outbreak, carve out a life for yourself in a world gripped by blood plague. Play as a community of survivors, build up your settlements with friends, and destroy zombies in State of Decay 3, the latest in the franchise from developer Undead Labs."

This coming to PS5 is the biggest shocker so far
I really enjoyed number 2 so I will definitely be getting this.
"You'll never know which games we are bringing to PS5 or not!!"
~ Xbox's strategy in 2026
So as i expected some games will be exclusive while others won't.
@Oram77 Happy it is as its excellent series.
And here I was thinking that it might just the games already announced for PS5 were staying but nope.
I'm boycotting this too if it ever makes it out.
Xbox is coming across like they have no idea what direction they want to move in. A will they, won't they strategy pleases no one on any side of the divide.
@DennisReynolds Oh yeah it's a very happy surprise
I had a lot of fun with the original on 360 Arcade back in the day, and heard mostly good things about the second one once they polished it up a bit. Would be pretty happy to give this a run on PS5, if it launches in a solid state.
Xbox again making no sense if they are in fact going back to exclusives.
State of decay is one of there top games of recent years.
Superb the firdt game and the second was good.
Im in for the 3rd on ps5.
Surely gears isn't being stopped.
They are truly on a suicide mission if they do pull back gears. They already had gears and halo as exclusive when the ship was sinking.
That's cool, played the second one on PC and had a good time, will definitely add this to my wishlist.
Not really relevant, but two things from the trailer jumped out at me. A typical grenade takes about 10lbs of force to pull the pin so there’s no way that stupid tape player contraption in the beginning is going boom, and there was a split second bit of footage where a character is supposed to be aiming down sights but he’s holding the gun so high the red dot sight is over his head. His sightline is at the same level where the magazine is. Pretty goofy looking.
@8th_Observer these are games that obviously have previously commitments from the previous leadership
@Bez87 deals already in place not that hard to understand
@Toot1st Obviously!
I'd have thought that cancelling this PS5 port would be cheaper than Gears E Day.
Are they just flipping a coin to see what comes to PS now? Honestly not the worst strategy Xbox would have ever tried.
Played the first one and I loved it. Never played the second one because I switched to ps4. This one looks pretty good. Looks like Hell divers 2 fun but with zombies.
I bet they're playing poker in office
"Ok guys if you lose this one goes MP if I win stay's exclusive"
@Toot1st well that isnt the case though.
Gears of war has a pa5 port ready to go and has been rated. They then decided to not do it.
So deals in place mean nothing.
This just shows they have 0 idea of how to go about it.
Xbox died with exclusives in place.
Xbox had to put games on PlayStation to stay afloat.
Changing this back will not change a thing. Theyve just shot themselves in the foot because now they are trying to sell a game on. Platform who has only 40m units sold and then jt has to compete with its own game pass and pc audience.
Microsoft will make money but xbox division for a console will not
I had a lot of fun with the last State of Decay. Didn't expect to like it so much. I no longer have an Xbox nor do I game on PC anymore so very excited for this
This is best as a multiplayer game, so the bigger the audience, the better.
@Bez87 "Only 40 million units." Come on, 40 million units of anything is still a lot by any metric.
@darylb24 it really isn't and that is why, xbox decided to do the unthinkable and start selling their exclusive games on a rival platform.
40m split between a inferior console the series s and superior the series x. Then on top of that splitting it again with pc. Then on top of that the amount of the 40m who pay for game pass and dont bother buying.
Then think about the money they have spent by buying all those teams they didnt go for individual teams, they went and bought out the entire publishers of those teams.
Then think about playstation selling the same powered console to 100m people.
Their exclusive games still only sell 10 to 15m copies and thats the top end of sales.
By back peddling, xbox, now only has 40m people to actually sell to, in which a majority of them only play games on game pass, and then you'll have the ones who arent interested in that particular game.
Your looking at maybe a million sales to 5m sales.
Then take into account the call of duty mess, more outright sales on ps5 and the vast majority on xbox playing the game on gamepass.
You take out playstation and the reality is Xbox has created its own rivals who are beating it, with game pass and pc.
Yes xbox making the money due to game sales but that is showing is there even a need to lose money on making a console.
They are now keeping gears of war, so they are now relying on the 40m to buy it, when they offer game pass and on pc.
Missing out on potentially 100m players to buy it.
@Bez87 That is a lot of words to try and convince me that a 40 million plus PC install base is not enough to sell well. PS5 has a similar attach rate to Xbox and Nintendo despite having a much bigger install base. Most PS5 players are casuals who play NBA, FC and live service games, as demonstrated by player numbers. Saros has sold less than 500k units, and Gears Reloaded sold under 300K units. If I were MS, I would not bother either. Forza makes sense because they know they can get 5 million plus units sold.
