Spider-Man 2's PS5 Sales Have Exploded After Brand New Day's Box Office Blowout 1

Companies like Sony are desperate to build synergy between their divisions, and here’s why: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the Insomniac sequel, is estimated to have sold 316k copies since Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s historic box office opening.

The data comes courtesy of sales prediction firm Alinea, so these are just guesstimates based on its proprietary methodology.

However, a graph published by analyst Rhys Elliott shows a clear uptick in engagement around the game, beginning right around the release of the new Tom Holland movie, on 30th July.

Elliott attributes the uplift to smart discounting alongside the launch of the movie, as well as the cultural impact of Spidey at large. Apparently, an estimated 274k players decided to check the title out via PS Plus Extra as well.

This all culminated in over one million daily players this past weekend according to Alinea, a 2.6x increase on the game’s pre-movie engagement.

These are really quite extraordinary numbers, and as I’ve reported in the past, both Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales are also enjoying highs right now as well.

With the film’s global box office now above $1.6 billion worldwide, the bean counters at Sony will be enjoying this Spidey-shaped boost to its financial results.
