Yeah i've been playing it a lot since the film. Story isn't good but its easily the best Spidey game out there for just messing around in the open world with endless amounts of suits to choose from.

As I’d stated in the previous article about the new film, I have friends who’d never played the game and they’ve all been playing ever since seeing the film. Highly anticipating the 3 Miles film too!

I think BND isn't the only reason since this year also has Spider-Noir tv show, which is a really solid show imho.

And next year there's Beyond Spider-Verse and Avengers: Secret Wars. So more spotlight for Spiderman games.

@DennisReynolds Yeah if Spiderman 1 had the gameplay of 2 I would not go back. The story is preventing me from playing it again

I’m happy for insomniac seeing as they’re one of my favourite devs.

@DennisReynolds I like everything about the Harry/Venom story, but felt like the Kraven B plot was kind of a waste of time.

Spiderman 2 story is so bad, at times Peter looks like a supporting character in this own game. And the characters do not look and simetimes do not act like their comic counterparts. Still, the game is very enjoyable. Somehow the gameplay avoided the open world bloat that some modern games have.

Personally, I loved the game, the story (including all the side stories), and characters.
I really thought they made you care about the characters, and fleshed them out with some interesting back stories - including some of the (ex) villains.
In general I found it a much better put together experience than SM1, which was itself an excellent game.

Glad the film is having a positive effect on the sales of a game that really deserves it.

@Deadhunter For me the issue was poor and rushed pacing and Venom barely being in it.

@Nepp67 As i said i feel the open world stuff is at least worth going back to mess around in. Bigger map, more traversal options, two Spidey's and over 70 suits puts that side of the game above the first game.

On topic: I had a great time platinuming SM2, the Web-Wings make traversal my fav thing in the game. I'm glad more people are getting to play.

Its a good game, major improvements from the first game but i really didnt enjoy it as much as i did the first game.

Can someone explain to me what is so bad about the story? I personally loved it, even more than the first one, and it was nominated for Best Narrative in Game Awards. I didn’t even realise there was supposed to be something wrong with the story until I opened the internet

@super84trooper They use the black suit as a metaphor for addiction and Peter’s compulsions to save everyone because he couldn’t save Aunt May. They then give Peter a suit that has all the powers of the black suit but none of the side-effects. Like giving a crack addict The Good Crack That Makes You Feel Good.

Why it is "Spider-Pander 2"?

@Romans12 you mean you don't think the spiderman games are good. They are great games but they are not my cuppa. I'm not a big fan of the last of us games but I can clearly see why people like them and I can also appreciate they are very well made games. Just because something does not resonate with me does not mean they are rubbish.

I might give MM another spin. For some reason 2 is not holding my interest. ( I will crank it out eventually)

The latest Spider-Man game is always easy to make fun of, and the last really good game from IG is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

I liked the story in all 3 insomniac Spiderman games.

1 was the best and for a side story miles morales was decent.

I am going through Spiderman 2 again and liking it again so far, loved it the 1st time so curious to see if I still do by the end of my new game plus run. Something tells me it won't change

@DennisReynolds pretty obvious. Some people can't handle missions where LGBT or black people are featured. They see any inclusion as "pandering".

@super84trooper nothing is bad about the games or Spider-man 2 specifically. People keep repeating what others are saying, especially when there is bigotry involved.

I ‘only’ played through it twice when it launched but I thoroughly enjoyed Spiderman 2. For me the highlight was swinging through the city but I liked everything about it.

I was kinda surprised by the absence of a big postlaunch story content package like GoW and Horizon got (which isn’t to say it hasn’t gotten big tech patches and a few suits) but Insomniac is the fastest team Sony has and it’s logical that the best way to get games done quickly is to shift focus to Game B after Game A ships.

@Carnage it may be due to fans and reviewers complaining about Spidey 1 DLC being more of the same.

Spider-Man 2 was a decent game but it suffered from the side content being looked behind story beats. Things like the symbiote nests would be more fun if you didn't unlock 15 of them all at once at a point where you had little else to do before the end game.

To me, Spidey 2 was one of those games that took one step forwards and another step backwards.

Kraven was awesome but Venom was incredibly disappointing. The Ubisoft open world tropes are toned down, but its replacements aren’t always inspiring.

Granted, I’ve only played the game once, so maybe I should give it another whirl.

Spider-Man being a side character on his own game was extremely disappointing. The first game and Miles Morales were both better.

Shame the game is so expensive on the PlayStation store. Good news is you can pick it up for a 5th of the price at cex

I loved SM2 as well.

Some people point to Venom being underutilised/ rushed, but personally I think this was a good choice.
The threat was there, lurking behind a lot of the main narrative, and casting it's influence on characters and the story as a whole. This is a story about the characters after all.
By the time we have done the mission controlling venom, I think running the back end as a rush to stop venom was the right choice, and unlike the 1st game, the city wide 'emergency' didn't overstay its welcome.
You could also argue the same type of criticism (lack of screen time) should apply to Doctor Octopus (post transformation) in the first game.

I have seen some claim that Peter is treated as a 'side character' but this is total and utter nonsense in my opinion - if anything, Miles gets the short end of the deal in terms of story, as all of the key characters have far more history with Peter. Miles does get his time to shine though.
It should be remembered that some of the side content can be completed by either Peter or Miles, so you can play a very large % of the game as Peter.

It is true that the 1st game included the very hard hitting death of Aunt May, that they couldn't really replicate in part 2. But, I think that part 2 went to MUCH greater story lengths to make you feel what Peter (and Miles / MJ) were feeling as the game proceeded.

One of the key themes is that Peter really has been 'damaged' by his choice to become Spiderman - emotionally, physically, and financially. The game does a fantastic job of narrating this. It is also clear that whilst he has been open with Miles, Peter is still trying to protect him and MJ, at least until the end. There are some great relationships here, and I think Insomniac expertly explore them as much as they can.

As with any Sony game you are sadly going to get some fanboy type negative reactions to the game, and I have also sadly seen plenty of anti-inclusion based comments since it launched.

My only criticisms would be that the Symbiote enemies were too spongy / tanky, and that they have left an awful lot to wrap up in part 3. I would also add that the gay romance school story (I think it revolved around Homecoming dance), was in my opinion quite clumsy in including stereotyping in regards the characters.

I'd rather they made Spider-Man for the PS1 backwards playable. "Spider-Wuss come out to play".

@themightyant I think that's a fair accounting. The film was good and enjoyable, but its whole purpose was resetting things for the future.

I think you could clearly see where they had taken inspiration from the games with peters swinging and some fighting, which was a nice easter egg style bonus.

I’d say they are about to be sorely left down but then again these fans are coming from the worst of the Spider-Man franchise movies already so they’ll be right at home as they play the game once for a couple hours and probably never touch it again.

Played the first one and miles morales but never felt the need to play the second one, think the gameplay and open world being to similar/ repetitive put me off committing to the second game. Now if they make a venom spin off as rumoured then I’m interested but think it’s been cancelled(?)

Idk how to feel because while SM2 is one of the best Spidey game I've played, it was also held back by Pete sharing the spotlight with other characters that could be easily removed from the overall plot.

I also didn't like the combat, SM1 was better on that aspect due to gadgets giving me more freedom on how to approach certain situations.

I would be awesome if Insomniac would add the 2nd Amazing Suit, and Tom's latest 2 suits to the 1st game. But nooooo, only for SM2

I guess Spider-Man 3 might come out in a couple of years when the next Spidey film does. It is a great idea to bring out a game when a film based on that game has been released. This is likely why we used to see so many licensed games filling store shelves at the same time as their film equivalent's release in cinemas.

20% physical? It's interssting to see unbiased and cherry picked data. Maybe when widely available physical games are compared to digital, this is the reality. No digital only, limited pressed discs and dlc pumped in to make it look worse.

I prefer the SM1. Story was better.
SM2 is like.. graphics.. and dumb story and MMO activities. For me a story matters more.

Not surprised, tie ins or not people were always looking for more Spiderman stuff. The percentage that are buying the game, don't look at games or in a Spiderman mood so going back to it.

I have no interest so easy pass for me. I didn't like 2018 at all so easy skip for me here (didn't play Miles, haven't Spiderman 2 PS5 either. Got more interest in the older ones ideas not modern game design I don't even like.

I have Shattered Dimensions to play on 360, Spiderman 2 2004 on OG Xbox and Web of Shadows on Wii to play so I'm fine with those instead.

I'm just playing other things instead right now.

Yep. Just installed it on Monday, played two days and went back to Wildlands.

spiderman is such a hypercrite he routinely commits civil offenses like trespassing on private skyscrapers, Damaging public infrastructure during fights or Leaving thick webbing all over public property.
