PSVR2 is a fantastic bit of kit, and while there have been some great games that take advantage of the tech over the years, the release schedule has definitely felt a little lighter recently.
It'll come as very welcome news to virtual reality fans, then, that the headset has just had multiple new games announced and/or release as part of the recent VR Games Showcase.
Let's go through them all.
System Shock VR
Developed by Flat2VR Studios in collaboration with Nightdive Studios, System Shock VR is exactly what it sounds like — the iconic sci-fi thriller rebuilt in virtual reality. You can explore Citadel Station and fight back against SHODAN in an immersive first-person experience. There's no release date on this one, but you can wishlist it on PS Store now.

High on Life VR
This is another Flat2VR Studios joint, bringing Squanch Games' ludicrous sci-fi shooter, High on Life, to the realm of VR. The above trailer offers a brief glimpse behind the scenes as the devs discuss adapting its gameplay to virtual reality. This game also doesn't have a release date yet, but can be wishlisted on PS Store.
Omega Pilot Evolution
Playable in PSVR2 or on your TV, Omega Pilot Evolution is an anti-gravity racing game clearly inspired by Sony's iconic series. It looks a little bit "We have WipEout at home," but short of Omega Collection suddenly being ported to PS5 with PSVR2 support, this could be the next best thing. It's available to purchase right now.
Bootstrap Island
Also available now, Bootstrap Island is a roguelike survival action game in which you play a marooned shipwreck survivor who must do whatever they can to stay alive. With no real guidance, you will need to search for food and water, and watch out for threats across the tropical island such as the elements or hostile animals.
Drop Dead: The Cabin
Originally released for Meta Quest in 2023 and then SteamVR last year, Drop Dead: The Cabin is now being brought over to PSVR2. It's a co-op zombie shooter, in which groups of up to four survivors must defend the cabin from hordes of encroaching undead. It's set to launch on 27th August, 2026.
Vertigo Rush
Vertigo Rush is a first-person racing game in which you run, jump, and climb as a robot. Currently in early access, the game is coming to PSVR2 when it makes its full launch in Winter 2026. The game contains a single player story mode as well as online multiplayer. It can be wishlisted now on PS Store.
Trombone Champ Unflattened: Disney DLC
Trombone Champ Unflattened arrived on PSVR2 in 2024, but it's soon to receive some brand new content in the form of a Disney DLC pack. Launching on 20th August, it brings six songs from animated Disney classics:
- A Whole New World (Aladdin)
- Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid)
- Part of Your World (The Little Mermaid)
- You've Got a Friend in Me (Toy Story)
- Be Our Guest (Beauty and the Beast)
- Circle of Life (The Lion King)
Lots of fun PSVR2 news, then — which of these are you looking forward to playing? Tell us in the comments section below.

High on life in VR actually looks very interesting
I was looking for a reason to finally grab System Shock and this looks like the exact reason!
Seriously nice suprise! Can imagine high on life being really good in vr.
Oh yes I'll have these thankyou very much.
I will definitely look at High on Life and System Shock isn't that a genuine classic? I don't know if it is remastered, but if I am to be interested it needs to be a newer update.
Great news, High on Life will be interesting and Drop Dead looks good if I can get a group together or will it have match making!?!
Omg, System Shock VR sounds fantastic! Finally a reason for my VR headset. Nothing to play on this damn machine since Metro.. High on life sounds fun too! Might have to check that out
This is welcome news to the 10 or so people who use PSVR2. Why do I suspect this is the last hurrah for it
@Bizzy you might be right ,compared to what was announced for quest /steam this is just a small few, Payday :aces high is quest /steam only id had thought this would be on psvr2
Oh hell yes!
Bummed I didn't support it out of the gate, assumed my glasses and eyesight wouldn't play nice
Killer experience, especially for 300 monies
High on Life VR was a surprise. Think this will be pretty cool in VR.
Push Square will be furious! They have posted 5 stories about it be ‘dead’. The fans have always believed in it anyway. 🫡
Any upgrade path for System Shock? I’m guessing not as the VR version seems to be a separate listing on the PS Store. I like the game but I’m not buying it again!
Sony could task Flat2VR Studios with porting Astro Bot Rescue Mission to PSVR2.
And because of the positive press this would generate (and Sony needs positive news), Sony could use its PR budget for that AND earn some money from sales!
@Bizzy
Not really, Flat2VR who are doing the Lords work have more games coming, their vault announcement which comprises of five safes each opened by a youtuber/industry professional (Shu was one of the people) will showcase a new game, the first of which was Drop Dead the cabin.
Flat2VR also still have Flatout 4 coming which looks great.
Plus don’t forget that we got Flight Sim this year which had a Sim update yesterday which improved the visuals dramatically.
People need to be less negative on VR if you aren’t interested then fair enough, just move along.
Some of these look really good, definitely be picking up system shock, drop dead the cabin and vertigo rush. With these and zero caliber 2 and out of sight this year the psvr2 has still been been a brilliant purchase for me. Between me and my son we have well over a 1000 hours in the headset.
@Max_the_German
"Sony could use its PR budget for that AND earn some money from sales"
Write to Sony and tell them. I am sure they will get right on to it.
@CaptD I'm not negative about VR. I am just realistic about the popularity of PSVR2. It's hardly been a runaway success and Steam Frame is just around the corner.
Sadly (and I mean that sincerely), I think that users of PSVR2 are going to be hung out to dry when the PS6 hype train gets rolling next year.
You just have to look at Sony's past to see the devices it has abandoned and it's not uncommon for them to do something like this for a few extra sales before killing it outright.
For large companies like Sony, devices like this represent old money and they want new money. That is when you have to ask yourself if you're going to jump on the new device that they announce, knowing their previous track record.
This is cool, but imagine a killzone or a resistance fall of man game, from the ground up, for psvr2.
@Quintumply
Any chance of a review for the VR games releasing or already released?
I’m not sure about High on Life. It sounds like the talking guns and humor can be grating. I did see the flat version is in my library, so it must have been a Plus offering at some point. I may try it to see if a VR option is worth it, but if it’s too annoying I’ll pass.
Some of the others sound interesting though. System Shock and Bootstrap Island have been added to my wishlist.
Finally Push Square give PSVR2 some positive vibes, even if not headline.
ZEN’s Pinball FX PSVR2. Is also on its way.
@Max_the_German PSVR to PSVR2 "ports" do not exist and are impossible to make.
@dschons What? Why not? The systems for 3D detections differ, yes. But why should it me more complex than bringing a game from an x86 Windows platform with dedicated graphics to an ARM FreeBSD platform with shared memory?
@Max_the_German Because the tracking technology is entirely different and cannot be ported but would have to be remade from the ground up. It's not something you can simply slap on and off you go. Both engine and code would have to be rewritten.
Congratulations to flat2vr studios ! Their showing during the VR show case was indeed a big surprise!
Anyway looking forward to flatout4 Vr, high on life Vr and systemshock vr, and the opening of the future flat2vr vaults !
@Bizzy
I do get that So y have been shocking with their VR2 support especially when it comes to VR1 ports, or total lack of and none have been more critical than me when it comes to their lacklustre support and it is one more reason as to why I will probably skip the PS6. However I do think that the PS6 will at least support VR2 games through back compatibility but we shall see, as I say though I have no interest in a PS6.
The most interesting thing for me is the lack of VR2 supply at the moment, apparently stocks are extremely low so maybe out of stock soon, in fact I was thinking about buying a spare just in case.
Hopefully Steam Frame will breathe some life in the VR market but for myself I have a major backlog so I’m good for a while.
@dschons A miracle! Games with 3D controllers like Moss got ported, I can confirm, I played them. And Astro Bot Rescue Mission uses standard controls, even simpler.
A port (yes, I remain to call it that) is totally feasible with an appropriate effort.
@Max_the_German the tech is different and can not simply be ported over. As @dschons has stated correctly the psvr games would need to be completely rebuilt.
@Max_the_German moss was a ps4 game and was not psvr enabled. The ps5 port was specifically remade to use the psvr2 therefore is not a port.
@CaptD Good to hear. Sounds like you've done things right
@gaston flat2vr studios are becoming my fave dev at the moment. All of their psvr2 ports have been brilliant and I'm really looking forwards to flatout and the postal vr game. I'm really hoping they can get some older franchises to bring to psvr2 in the future. It'll never happen but dirt 2.0 in vr would be amazing.
@Northern_munkey „ moss was a ps4 game and was not psvr enabled“ What are you talking about?
„Polyarc’s picturesque PlayStation VR platformer Moss is so lovely that you’ll want to snatch your duvet and snuggle up inside its fantasy world.“
https://www.pushsquare.com/reviews/ps4/moss
Super-reliable ChatGPT guesses total porting costs between 400k and 800k USD. I demanded DualSense with Adaptive Triggers and keeping 60 fps. Flat2VR Studios seems to have the right expertise for tasks like this.
@Max_the_German my bad. I was under the assumption that the latest versions of moss 1 and 2 were new psvr2 versions of old ps4 flat screen games. Apologies. But still porting psvr games to psvr2 is a big under taking as the tracking tech is different.
@Bizzy Who needs hurrahs when there's GT7 and racing rigs?
Every piece of tech has a shelf life. Some live longer, some live shorter. It all comes down to how much value and enjoyment each individual will extract from it. This line of thinking also applies to the idea of supporting said gadget.
Videogame history is full of hidden gems that were considered niche during their time. You can probably come up with a few examples of your own.
Since you're commenting on a PSV2 article, I assume you have some passing interest in it, but it sounds like you don't own one. Sorry you're missing out.
@CaptD
Loved that segment, but I was really hoping for the first unlocked vault title to be a hybrid, a popular retro-like title from either the 6th or 7th generations of consoles, or optimized ports for left for dead PSVR1 titles(Like the incredible VR universal studios-like theme park attaction 'Ocean Descent' from PSVR Worlds)...Mind you, PSVR Worlds is owned by Sony and possibily London Studios though, so I'm guessing it would of been pricey bringing that one over to PSVR2.
Still, super grateful for Flat2VR with High on life VR, System Shock, plus FlatOut & Postal 2 and more are on the way. Along with the string of mystery future vault VR titles on the horizon.
meanwhile, those lucky funkers' with high end PC rigs are having a ball with Resident Evil 9: Requiem VR. Ugh, I really hope a PSVR2 mode gets included in the upcoming Gold Edition. If not, it's time to finally throw in the towel at the possibility of it ever coming to PSVR2, and just save up the koopa cash and play it on PCVR with Steam Frame or PSVR2.
Oh, and we've got Bootstrap Island, Total Chaos, Out of Sight(The better VR little nightmares experience), Grimlord. PCVR gamers are getting RE Veronica about a month after it launches for Steam in 2027. 2026 has been a semi dire lumpy ride, but now things are looking hopeful again. Combined with the launch of Steam Frame any month now, including Meta's Connect which is slated for this Sept 23-24, which may unveil Quest 4. meta Pheonex will most likely be the main focus.
@Art_Vandelay
It's so funny. Even just 3 years in, both PSVR2 & Quest 3, as much as i love both, have lost that newness, the magic is fading(like with any new piece of shiny hardware) and the shortcoming/blemishes are started to really show. PSVR2 with it's cable, bulkyness, discomfort(No silicone padding), low PPD, Mura, none RGB OLED, Persistence Blur, those chunky annoying rings encapsulating the controllers, no IIPD 'number dial', No spacial audio.
On the flip side, black levels are fantastic, colors look great, it has the best in-class controller haptics, head haptics, adaptive triggers, backed by PS5 Pro plug n' play Console power.
And then Quest 3 with no Eye Tracking + DFR to help out with performance, much lower Binocular overlap(About 70%, PSVR2's is 85% and Steam Frame's is supposedly 90%. Meaning Quest 3 has less stereoscopic 3D depth...), no 6ghz dongle for unoticeable PCVR image compression & low latency, and weak stand alone power.
Where as the pro's would be wireless, slimmer form factor, more ergonomic ring-less controllers, Pancake Lenses, higher 25 PPD, no Mura, RGB based display, exclusive stand alone apps like Theatre Elsewhere and more, it goes beyond VR gaming and offers so much more.
Still, i need to new Hardware at this point. This is where Steam Frame + PCVR(5070 Ti) comes in.
@Max_the_German You can call it port all you want and wish it into existence. It doesn't change that it's not. If it was feasible, they would've done it. It's not only the tracking but the engine as well. There is a lengthy interview with a VR dev (behind a Patreon paywall though) on Bryan Paul's Patreon where he explains why he's growing tired of people like you claiming they could just port or redevelop for an apple and an egg.
@Northern_munkey
Astro Bot: RM's only issue for PSVR2 would be the need to alter the DualShock 4's touch pad/motion based mechanics and translate that stuff over to the Sense Controllers. Shouldn't be too hard. RM should of been there at launch for PSVR2, which has been said abizzion times already, i Know. It's just mind boggling to omit that one, including RE7 and Ocean Descent.
And no, Max Mustard does NOT fill the void, at all. lol That game has one of the worst soundtracks ever.
@Bizzy
Hopefully Sony gets it right with PSVR3 for PS6, and uses Steam Frame, or better yet, Quest 4(light weight Glasses design with cable puck) as a template and improves upon it. I'm not too interested using PSVR2 on a PS6 driven by indies if it even winds up being compatible, since by that point in lets say Q4 2028, PSVR2 in most ways is going to feel like a dinosaur when stacked up against Q4 & SF.
Sure, a PS6 will be able to run most PSVR2 games at a native 2000x2040 per eye + SuperSampling @90fps, but you still have to deal with frensel lens clarity, low 18 PPD, Mura, PenTile OLED(Which is less detailed and clear vs RGB MicroOLED or LCD), and the form factor. Won't be getting PS6 if PSVR3 doesn't happen. I don't play my PS5 anymore unless it's for VR. PS flatscreen gaming, in most cases, at least for me, feels so played out and samey'. Not even RE Requiem's demo is winning me over, and RE is my favourite video game franchise of all time. I need it in VR.
Anyways, I'm desperate for new VR hardware, and that's where the Steam Frame comes in. But, I'm still supporting PSVR2 until i finally get around to scoring a good PC, which will be a place holder until PSVR3 for PS6 happens, if it does happen.
High on Life and System Shock VR looks right up my alley though they seem to be a little ways off.
The shadow dropped Omega Pilot Evolution looks nice but I’m not yet clear how it differs from and/or improves upon last year’s VR Racer Hoverbike (also an indie homage to Wipeout) so I’m holding off on it.
@Snowrunner Came here to say the same thing. Pinball FX VR coming to PSVR2 is amazing news.
I’ll instabuy all the tables available.
@Quintumply Zen Studios announced it’s coming on their YouTube channel.
https://youtu.be/iKrhNWqXaCA
There is much more releasing than what was shown at this showcase. PSVR2 has way more games released in the last 2 years compared to the lacklustre PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 flat screens.
@WaveBoy it's a lot more complicated than that from what I've read. The eye tracking etc in the psvr2 means everything has to be changed and I think that's why a lot of psvr games have not been ported over or made backwards compatible. It's a shocking blunder by Sony and there's no defending it. Again I'm no expert and I can only go off what I've read online so don't take it as verbatim.
@dschons I‘m interested in this interview, but I couldn’t find it. The search function on his patreon seems quite useless. Would be great if you could tell me more information so I can find it. Thanks
Thank you STEPHEN for finally highlighting that the narrative on psvr is wrong, and it continues to get a steady stream. Also MSFS got a bit uplift.
For anyone thinking of getting psvr , there is now a huge backlog of great games. It would be worth doing a top 20 curation for people who have never looked at it
@Max_the_German just looked it up, I can't find it either. Maybe he has taken it down for some reason. It was about two years ago. Will keep you posted when I find it.
3 great games to look forward to 😃 especially High on Life is gonna be amazing in VR!
Time to dust off my PSVR2 again
Good to know. System Shock is an IP that may fit VR.
Still fair high level support for PSVR2 is nice every so often.
PSVR2 may not always get articles of 'big releases' but who cares it still has a user base, many niche games and devs that care.
It's Vita all over again but that's not a bad thing.
The audience for it is happy, everyone else thinks big is all that matters. Sony may not support it, but big devs here and there or Indies do, imagine that and good on them for supporting it.
It has production and hasn't stopped yet, imagine that, just for a niche audience.
We going to ignore Evercade and Playdate and say oh they flopped when they are doing great for their niche audience too.
Same with Neo Geo even though Pocket/Pocket Color it was a different situation there as to why so few releases.
@Northern_munkey
I always assumed that Eye Tracking + DFR was an added bonus to help out greatly in terms of performance. Why would that be required in order to get games like Astro Bot: RM over?
And ya, High on Life VR & System Shock may be coming. But High on Life is slated for 2027, i can't get excited for anything that far off and we don't have a release for SS either. Then there's Out of Sight, Postal 2, Bootstrap Island, and maybe Grimlord on the way this year. I just wish i could play all of these on Steam Frame wirelessly connected to PS5 Pro.
@WaveBoy the psvr used a camera and the motion wands with the glowing ping pong balls to track movement whereas the psvr2 uses different in built cameras and eye tracking. It's totally different in how it communicates. Bringing the games over in theory should be easy but from what I can gather it's an awful lot of work. Like I said I'm no expert.
I expect high on life to run like pants, so I’m not optimistic there.
System shock could be good, but only if it runs at native resolution and frame rate. There is really no excuse for it not to.
