Assassin's Creed Director

Ubisoft knows that Assassin's Creed is one of its safest bets in terms of financial return — and so it's spending a lot of time and effort in making sure that the right people are in charge of the property.

The publisher's huge (and still partly ongoing) restructuring has meant that Assassin's Creed now falls under the Tencent-backed Vantage Studios umbrella, and there have been sweeping changes with regards to leadership.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Jean Guesdon — the creative director on both the original Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Origins — would oversee the series as 'head of content'.

He was installed alongside two other veterans of the franchise in what seemed like a big, positive PR push for an embattled Ubisoft.

And now, Guesdon has revealed that Assassin's Creed as a whole will be directed by Eric Baptizat — another guy of vast Industry experience.

Baptizat had previously spent 16 years at Ubisoft before moving to EA, where he directed the Dead Space remake and player a major role in designing the gameplay of Battlefield 6.

He returns to the French company as game director for the Assassin's Creed brand.

His history with the series speaks for itself. Most notably, he was the director on Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but he also fronted design teams on Black Flag, Unity, and Origins.

If nothing else, this newly established leadership team should know what's best for the franchise going forward.

Having said that, if you weren't a fan of Valhalla, or the kind of live service roadmap that it hinged upon, then I suppose there's some room for concern.
