This Ace Combat 8 Trailer Looks at Fighter Jets the Way Gran Turismo Looks at Cars

Got a lot of MF's in this video.

Really looking forward to this one. Loved AC4, 5 and 7, some of my favourite games on those systems. If you haven't played 7 yet, please do, it's a great example of what gaming used to be like in the PS2 days.

Love these games. I just want them to keep the tight gameplay and the campy voice overs and story. It's such a guilty pleasure.

@Snackfood Why would a great legacy franchise like AC be considered a guilty pleasure?

@ShadowRJ 3 is still the best, but only if you play fan translation of Japanese version. Localised Electro sphere is still the biggest heresy in the entire history of butchered localisations.

@Dalamar Wasn't that the game that pretty much removed the story from the Western release?

@ShadowRJ the whole story AND 2/3 content. Original was gigantic game with visual novel structure, branching paths and multiple endings.

Cant ***** wait, this is probably the one game i'm hyped the most about this year, maybe tied with Control, and both are coming out back to back.

@Dalamar I do agree that 3 is fantastic and so ahead of its time, its absolutelly insane, the ps2 trilogy are still the best games, specially 5 and 0. We are very close to project Nemo in the timeline, some people are even saying that one of the people that appear in some of the trailers is Dission, and that's totally feesible at this point.
We really need a propper Electrosphere port tho. Now's the time namco....

I had the 1st one for PS1 ( hate that term ) on Japanese import and loved it.
Not a day 1 buy for me considering the competing ones but it's a definite buy before the year's end.

I've been a fan of this series since the first one many years ago. Arcade action is better than sim in this instance because having a realistic number of weapons would run out and be over very quickly. It's nice having 50-ish missiles and nearly unlimited rounds.

Gran Turismo is the most boring, dry, sterile, unemotional game possible so I really hope you don't know what you're talking about or it is just plain wrong. If not, oh boy it'll suck.

Quality wise sure, gameplay wise who knows. It looks like Ace Combat and it stands out like Ace Combat so that's good enough for me even as a newcomer to the series despite buying a few entries (4 or 5 (I forget as it has a different subtitle in my region) for PS2, 6 360, Assault Horizon 360, 7 on PS4 or Switch, not gotten to the older ones yet) and trying them out.

Gran Turismo has been pretty bland the past few years of content, progression that's atrocious or presentation so to me articles written like this does not impress me. Graphics don't matter to me. Gameplay does. It's why I find games have been boring for 3 consoles gens now.

I have plenty of Ace Combat games to play as still new to the series (and many other flight/vehicle combat games I have physical or digital with fair feel and campaigns) but otherwise quality means nothing to me of graphics or 'presenting it'. Ace Combat games are fun but require a lot from me as not the best at flight/vehicle combat games.

I don't play games to play movies or simulate, I play games to be good fun, no matter how silly, serious or suitable to play. Simulating has a place but is boring. I can have a more creative mind then just replicating reality because people have no imagination or a narrow view of the world. So to me gaming can be so much yet isn't and it's boring because of devs and audiences that are boring.

Still the series is a good one so I'm all for Ace Combat 8 doing well.

@Redefaul I think they mean in a presentation/graphics way but even I as a arcade racer or sim racing type or like to play any genre and enjoy older GT games but find the modern ones terrible think it's a bad way to frame it.

Though if they mean in a 'for plane fans' then even more that's a bit much and not fair to say either. Ace Combat isn't War Thunder or Flight Sim or certain others. It stands it own for a reason.

But it's not surprising some people don't see the charm or how it fits in sometimes. I'm not a planes type person (or trains, not really much cars either but I have learnt bits and pieces more then then the others, or bikes or ATVs either but had fun with those games too) but I find the gameplay and stories in Ace Combat very charming and enjoyable.

Ace Combat has it's presentation, it's gameplay, it's stories, charm and more it isn't just some generic flight game it's still Ace Combat in 8 for sure. I hope at least but the trailers give off very Ace Combat still at least. I'm still new to the series and have a few entries ready to play but even the first trailers I was like oh this looks like Ace Combat so maybe I understand the charm of the series and it's presentation more then I think I do but still not as much as long time fans would.

But having the presentation or real planes and more when it also stands out as a series for a reason in it's own way could degrade it so I agree with you in framing it as similar to GT when it's not even close to that of framing the series that way.

Even then Ace Combat isn't War Thunder or others either. I don't know enough between each but even jumping between racing games or shooters with different presentation, setting, tone, gameplay, etc. I've gotten to understand them all over time.

Flight games I don't yet have the feel for them all yet, but even then it's clear Ace Combat has it's own way of doing things or fits it's type of style.

Even if I am new to the series and many others in it's genre. I do see how it presents itself and it has a lot to it of personality that isn't just generic flight combat game or play this game plane fans. It stands out for sure in it's own way.
