We’re big fans of The Crew Motorfest here, so we were pleased to see a PS5 Pro Enhanced version announced alongside Sony’s new console. With the Pro finally here, we took to the well worn roads of Hawaii to see if the upgrade was up to much.
Ubisoft’s racer was already a looker on the base PS5, but it asked the question of this generation: frame rate or resolution? The Crew Motorfest has an option for Fidelity at 4K and 30fps and Performance at 1080p and 60fps on the base PS5. The former is a bit stuttery for a racer, and the latter loses the polish that makes Motorfest’s world and cars come alive.
In steps the PS5 Pro patch which really does exactly what was intended: get rid of the need to choose. Using PSSR to upscale to 4K, The Crew Motorfest now retains those glossy features, with a smooth 60fps, with this new Pro mode entirely replacing the original two. In addition it actually improves load distances and shadow details, so you can really take in those Hawaiian landscapes.
On paper this is the best way to play The Crew Motorfest, but does any of that actually matter when you are ripping through cities and countryside at 150 miles-per-hour? We actually found the upgrade to be quite noticeable, with the muddy 1080p being a bugbear of ours whenever we booted up the game pre-PS5 Pro.
The mixture of high fidelity with vibrant colours (especially on an OLED display) is utterly stunning and the inclusion of light reflections on the car (not ray tracing, mind) really do scratch that shiny car itch. Of course, rounding all of that off with a buttery high frame rate make Motorfest’s playlists great to sink a wee half-hour into.
Our only caveat though is that if you are sitting any more than a few feet away from your screen or monitor, or you are maybe rocking a mid-range TV, most of these upgrades will pass you by. The vibrant colour palette and speed of Motorfest do a lot of the heavy lifting visually, so it’s easy not to sweat the small stuff.
That being said, as frequenters of The Crew Motorfest and with us situated in the optimum pixel peeping position, we came away fairly chuffed with the upgrade on display here. It’s not quite the night-and-day difference many will be looking for, but for those bothered by the lacklustre 1080p on base PS5, this is a welcome improvement. It’s a “does what it says on the tin” kind of upgrade here, exactly as intended for the PS5 Pro, bringing the high fidelity and faster performance modes together for a prettier and slicker experience.
Will you be checking out The Crew Motorfest on the PS5 Pro? Do you think this is a worthy Pro upgrade? Drift on down to the comments to let us know.

It is night and day. I could not stand to play this game before, and now I absolutely enjoy it. 1080p or 30fps are both showstoppers for me. And as mentioned, some won’t even notice, but in my particular setup and for my personal perception it’s the difference between forcing myself to play the game I’ve bought vs actually having a great time.
@Glider8 same for me. Its almost a forza horizon killer now if not better gameplay wise.
I bought this just before I sold my PS5 in wait for the Pro and while I enjoyed the gameplay it looked proper rough at 60fps and something was seriously wrong in the 30fps mode (maybe frame pacing?).
It can be a stunning game now at points. A very good upgrade 👍
Yeah the difference is pretty big. Hope Ubi enhance Avatar next when the DLC drops later this month as it could really do with it.
Here's a glimpse of how it looks on my PS5 Pro:
https://youtu.be/R6zgLmxd_ow?si=tIpaurquEOKlwyan
Just change the quality to 2160p
Okay we get it. A £700 console makes games look better. We don’t need a separate article for every game the PS5 Pro improves. TBH after the initial wow factor when I start a game I don’t really notice the difference during normal gameplay.
Now if only I could buy an ever elusive disc drive for it so I can play all my games.
@Lofty1985 We don't need another PS5 Pro bashing comment either... You dont like the article don't read it
@N0CYmr0k I’m not bashing the Pro. I have one. I’m basing the article.
@Lofty1985 I personally am interested in game by game break downs of what the Pro does well.
I like to know the efforts devs have put in and which games might be worth picking up to get the best from my new machine.
@DennisReynolds I'd love for Avatar to get a boost from the Pro too. Game looks incredible in the Fidelity mode on PS5.

@AaronBayne It really does. Its one of those games i just put on for the virtual tourism. If they can combine the quality and performance modes and remove the blur it will look 10/10 perfect.
@Cerny Wake me up next summer
I still haven’t opened my copy. Sounds like a great update, glad I waited now. Looking forward to trying it out.
@Lofty1985 here’s a super crazy f**king idea don’t click on the article about the pro. It’s crazy I know but I promise it’s actually doable if you try.

Removed - unconstructive feedback
@awp69 dude when one game deserves an article about how the pro patch is working in it and what are the modes etc... the other game deserves an article too. Right? Its release week. Wait it out or simply go play games.
The only issue I have with motorfest is the horrible hdr..no matter what I try it looks washed out..not my TV settings as everything else is superb looking but this games hdr implementation is just 🤮
Imagine if PC gaming sites wrote an article for every game that looks better on higher settings every time a new graphics card came out. I know people that have a Pro are excited but, again, people with a new GPU are excited too so that should be justifiable too, right? And if you don't like the article, don't read it? Well the headline already conveys the content of the article and you can't like or dislike it without reading it.
It's not the fact that they're covering the Pro, of course they should, but at this point it feels like ad bots have taken over the site. You can journalistically cover something without spamming and without sounding like you're posting on the official Playstation Twitter account. Where are the articles about the games that still don't consistently run at 60, like Elden Ring? Eurogamer is covering that kind of stuff in a more journalistic, less fanboyish way.
Looking forward to trying this out. I played it briefly back at launch and it just didn't have enough polish. Maybe I'd been playing too much GT7 but graphically it was very apparent it was a 3rd party, multi-platform title.
@Lofty1985 Don’t use the “we” form for personal opinions please. As I am still in doubt I personally enjoy every single one of these articles, since it shows exactly which aspects in which kind of games are influenced.
Like others have said, I’m finding all these pro articles really helpful and interesting. The haters and moaners are always gonna do their thing in the comments but personally, I’m really enjoying the pro coverage. Please keep it up! 👍
@Lofty1985 Please speak for yourself, you dont speak for me.
You obviously havent figured out how to use websites: you click on the articles you wish to read.
Many of us are interested in how games have been adapted to run on the pro. If you arent, just dont click or go somewhere else entirely. For your first post on this site, you sure set the bar low.
No one would miss another auto complainer.
This particular article has reminded me to start playing this again. Loved it first time round, now it has another island and a decent pro uplift Im keen to dive back in. Cheers Aaron!
@Lofty1985 come on now. I told you a few days ago: just scroll on by. Use your loaf.
Edit: oh no, wait! That was someone else who didn't understand the concept of not clicking on things. You people seem to be multiplying.
As someone who was playing The Crew Motorfest a lot on my base PS5. It was easy win for me with the PS5 Pro and I can notice the difference. It's actually a night and day difference. No way I can play a racing game on 30FPS so I was playing 60 FPS but I was really missing this amazing features in the fidelity mode. Now I can have them while playing on 60 FPS.
@Matroska PC sites are literally full of articles that talk about bench marks and settings every time a new release comes out. DF do videos about optimum pc settings and new GPU and CPU are benchmarked across the Web on games ranging from the shiny new ones back to games a decade or more old.
New hardware is also a bigger deal in the console space because it happens far less frequently.
What else would you like them to write about this week?
Maybe some click bait opinion piece? It isn't like they have skipped any big news to cover the Pro.
Played the first one to death. Never touched the second one. Is this Forza Horizon on playstation?
@Darude84 this site uses "we" for personal opinions, bro, lol.
Was thinking of picking this up. Can anyone tell me what the rubber-banding is like in this?
Can’t stand racing games with unfair AI.
Thanks!
1080p at 60fps on base PS5? Thats not correct .... It's about 1440p at 60fps. The 4k at 30fps is correct. The resolution drop between modes are not that noticeable.
and one day they'll delist it
@LikelySatan Seriously? The writers obviously refer to we as being PushSquare. As far as I know “we” leaving comments aren’t united in some sort of way.
@Matroska the irony here is that the official PS page admins on social media don’t go around deleting critical comments, just because they go against the agenda of shoving a 1000€ console with objective faults into everyone’s face.
Let’s face it, we have to sing praises to PS5 Pro and the Light it brings into our otherwise meaningless lives, or else we get egged on and banned
Im having issues with the PRO as I’m noticing real bad effects on silent hill 2 in regards to the reflections of moving light on wet surfaces. The shimmer is insane, I don’t know if it’s my settings or just my crap LG Nanocell that’s the problem but it’s certainly jarring… particularly bad at the start of the game at the observation point and again at Lakeview hotel..help
"Our only caveat though is that if you are sitting any more than a few feet away from your screen or monitor, or you are maybe rocking a mid-range TV"
Y'know, that really is the key point that should be emphasised here. Buying a Pro without upgrading your tv first is not advisable.
@Northern_munkey I assume you've used all the adjustments?
Im playing on pro and it looks fantastic, I have no issue with hdr, so its weird if you are having it. I hope you can get it fixed!
Just been playing one of the new playlists on the new island... Silky smooth... I do like this game a lot 😊
@LifeGirl that’s exactly the conclusion I am coming too
Having a blast making my way through the chase squad playlist
@Dodoo nonexistent, one of the most fair racing games that I ever played. My only issue that when you turn off nitro in difficulty settings, it turns off only for you, not the opponents.
Better graphics don't make a good game out this mediocre Forza Horizon rip off.
@Blauwe_Chimay no. It tries to be like Forza Horizon, but it feels very barebones after a short time. Better leave it.
@Titntin everything looks washed out. If I turn hdr off it looks really nice and vibrant but as soon as its turned back on all the colour looks washed out again..
@Dalamar thanks for that and good to hear it’s fair.
Shame about the nitro though. Does that make it hard to win races with yours off?
@Northern_munkey Ewww, sorry dude, that sux. Obviousy Id just keep it in sdr. Maybe your telly doesnt like hdr10 modes?
@Lofty1985 what are you expecting from a PlayStation source new article website? The Pro is the flagship console now, I would be surprised if we didn't get more articles showcasing the differences, it's the entire point!
@SrpskaArtilerija it all depends on how you phrase your dislike. If your disappointment is articulated in a mature and constructive way then most people will listen to you but if you act like a whiney entitled illiterate brat then you only have yourself to blame if you do get banned or egged..
@Blauwe_Chimay Im a massive forza horizon fan, own and play them all regularly including all the old ones.
This game is fabulous and I would recommend it whole heartidly if you like forza. I have over 200 hours in it and I wouldnt do that if I didnt love it.
Its clear from other posts that thats not everyones opinion. I cant tell you they're wrong, its their opinion of course. But they ARE wrong 🤣
@Titntin it has no issues with any other game and hdr10 content...maybe I'm not adjusting the settings properly..I'll reinstall it and have another crack at it when I have space on my ssd..
@Dodoo depends on the course. If it's off road or race with lots of twists and turns then everything's fine. If it's broad highways then yeah, AI overtakes you and not much you can do. But you can simply leave nitro on, I just personally dislike it.
@Darude84 no, not seriously. We apologize, we were being silly.
Is the PS5 Pro out? Would have thought this site would mention it somewhere….
@Northern_munkey
Like this? https://youtu.be/R6zgLmxd_ow?si=3hIsHSbJ8RuZ_wJo
I for one am ok with all the articles. I just cant understand that people get upset over this. Its a Playstation site. I want to hear what the Pro specifically does with each game and i cant wait for all the Digital Foundry analysis on the games either.
@Mikey856 pretty much like the PS4 pro was only worth it if you also had a 4k tv the 5 pro is only worth if if you have 4k vrr oled it seems. So far though forbidden west and GT7 are the most drastic I have played and both look great with the good tv.
Please don't stop making these articles I find them great I wish the ps4 pro got this much coverage, the ps5 pro seems to have got more devs behind it already than the ps4 pro had in its lifetime , if you don't have one that's fine you can still play all the games , but don't try and ruin someone's enjoyment of the machine, that they probably worked hard to buy.
@N0CYmr0k yes like that..its like the blacks are zapped out or something..
@Northern_munkey Are You on Samsung QLED? Did you have to reset your hdr settings after a while comming back to the game?
@LogicStrikesAgain the problem is that pushsquare like to publish a lot of articles that come across as very click baity especially when there is something that's causing gamers to take umbrage with something and they then really go to town. On this occasion they are focusing on the positives and are actually being really useful instead of trying to fan the flames so to speak..some people are not used to it.
@N0CYmr0k no I have a hisense. It's their own version of an oled TV. It's a damn good TV except with that one game 🤣
Def be jumping back into this game. Got the pro on Friday and have been playing GT7 and started the last of us part 1. Both are stunning looking.
@Northern_munkey Might be an games software issue then. I have also noticed that when i wake up my PS5 Pro and launch Motorfest or Black OPS 6 have less than 60 fps. I can see that. After restarting the console it is ok. Might be a system issue too.
@N0CYmr0k I'm on the base ps5. I don't have a ps5 Pro just yet but I'll probably get one after Xmas..
@IamJT yeah GT7 has had a big boost and it hasn’t even been patched yet for the ray tracing. I wonder what’s going on with it because it was touted as a day one pro game ?
Did you notice it has mirror reflections? The series never had it lol
https://ibb.co/ncG7NY5
Edit: Also love the way they utilised Dual Sense capabilities.
@Northern_munkey Oh. OK.
@Mikey856 I don’t know but when it hits I will finally get that last trophy 🤣
@ORO_ERICIUS Ah no. Not even close.
@N0CYmr0k thanks for trying to help it's really appreciated 👍
@Northern_munkey just trying to understand:)
@Dalamar thanks, seems a weird decision how they kept the nitro on AI cars. Shame they don’t give options for both but I’ll still give it a go I think considering it’s cheap these days.
@IamJT which trophy are you waiting for ? I platted this a long time ago and it wasn’t a particularly memorable list, unlike the game.. god it’s so good
It's £24.99 on PC and I can run it 4k max on my 4080.
How much is it on PS5? £69.99?
Oh.
@dark_knightmare2 He wrote his opinion, just like you. There would literally be nothing to read on this site if you skipped all the PS5 pro sycophancy articles
@Mikey856 never got all the gold trophies 🤣 they are hard
@Fishnpeas j
How much, it is for4080 alone?,Adding to that a cpu that isn't a bottleneck, main board and ssd ?
@Northern_munkey I have exactly the same issue with the hdr. Probably my tv.
@x3King84 I don't think it's your tv..I've reinstalled it and looked at the hdr settings..turning the black all the way to zero and knocking the brightness down a couple of notches has improved things quite drastically..I left the white where it was..
@Fishnpeas nope it's a lot cheaper than that..
I remember not liking the demo when it first came out, but I hear there have been several updates and lots more content since. Forza Horizon sometimes cringes me out, so a backup would be nice to have.
@N0CYmr0k the 4080 was £1200.
The 4080 will last well into PS6 life cycle, because my guess (which will be a very accurate one) is that PS6 will aim for 4070 power.(the PS5 pro is 3070 level)
I"ve bought every single PlayStation since the Japanese version of PS1 and have amassed thousands of digital content games, most bought at full retail.
I have over 800 games on steam, and as a like for like price comparison have saved thousands on the PC alternative versions.
Consoles will never, ever match up on price, once you've had the initial outlay, you make it all back plus a lot more on the software.
The main draw of PlayStation was it's content, and if you have been as rabid as I have since 1994 about the brand you will find it impossible to think that this generation has been good for content in comparison to what came before. My brand loyalty has dissipated so all I think about is cost.
@Northern_munkey I just went on the PS store to double check, and it's listed as £69.99 for the standard version.
@Fishnpeas yeah well look online as I'm sure most people will be able to find the physical version much cheaper..
£29.97 on amazon.co.uk..
@Northern_munkey I haven't bought a physical game since the PS3. I spent the 80s, 90s and 2000s swapping tapes, carts, floppies and disks, the second we could have your library on storage there was no way I was messing about with that nonsense.
Honestly don't even think I ever heard of this game until about a week ago.
@Fishnpeas good for you buddy 👍
@Glider8 "1080p or 30fps are both showstoppers for me."
I think you're only saying that because now you own the PS5 Pro. Until 2 weeks ago you probably would play any game at 1080p 30fps and be fine with it.
But it's weird, I don't recall playing any game this gen at 1080p 30fps. Maybe you were stuck in the last gen?
@LikelySatan We are confused.
Can't wait to boot it up on the ps portal!
Seriously, you whiners are whining about another PS5 Pro article? Give me a break. It's no wonder I rarely visit the comments anymore.
@doctommaso I know..its like going to visit a websites comments section knowing beforehand that it's going to be chock full of the whiners and then proceed to complain about them all...🤔
The game looks phenomenal on ps5 pro. Look at the reflections on the boat. Outstanding.
https://youtu.be/qb66NpB6kqs?si=jguKFDMuziT_QAyO
The vid i made looks like a tech demo most companies would brag about before the game release lol
@x3King84 @Northern_munkey @Titntin just to update you guys. I spent a while last night tinkering with the hdr settings and it's definitely better with the black turned down to zero. I left the white alone but turned the brightness down a bit too. The colours no longer looked washed out and the blacks are black and not blown out. The jungle tracks look a hell of a lot better and there is a lot more detail. The game also plays really well with my steering wheel too. Thanks again for your help guys 👍
@Northern_munkey rofl... To be fair, I was aware of the irony and was waiting to see who would jump on it; thanks for living up to expectations!
I tested it out last night, I have no idea if the pro settings are active all I know is it looks damn good 👍
