The PlayStation 5 price and release date are the two most important details Sony is yet to reveal as we close in on the launch of the next-gen console, but before we can get to that, we need to take a trip down memory lane. Do you know the prices of previous PlayStation systems and peripherals when they launched? Have you done the maths based on history to get a good idea of the PS5 cost? Let's put your knowledge to the test in the latest Push Square quiz.

Only missed psp go dang it
7/10 pretty poor as I bought them all at launch....
7/10
Who could forget the PS3's launch price
it invented a new disorder called PTSD
PlayStation Three Sales Disorder
...guess I’m Sony’s worst mathmatician.
8/10 missed the handheld b/c I don't buy Sony handheld.
Only clicked on the article b/c I thought we were guessing the PS5 prices. I feel cheated.😉
7/10, I forget psp launch since it's a long time ago although I did buy it when it's available on my country, I didn't have psp go so I didn't know the price, same with psmove.
5/10. I missed all the handhelds and the move controller.
Flawless Victory
PS3 £425..that's a lot...excuses were but it played PS2 Games....PS5 will play PS4...So £400 for full on PS5 or maybe £600.
oh 3/10 ah well tea time chicken roasties n gravy.
I swear PS2 was like 350/400 and PS3 like 600! Guess I am misremembering!
@Deljo haha. Same as me. Bought all of those things on day one. I forgot the PSP and PSP Go completely. Rushing, I pressed the wrong option for the PS3.
9 out of 10, curse you PSP Go. What's interesting to me is just how much of an outlier price wise the PS3 was.
I only got the handhelds and move wrong, I'm kinda proud of myself.
6/10 and I bought most of it day one! Kept going to low, It seems telling my out half how little this or that cost tricked myself even if it never worked on her!
Ps3 was so over priced yet still won the generation, maybe price isn't everything....
I refuse to believe anyone got question 3 wrong.
9/10. Got the one about the Move Controller wrong.
@Sebatrox ah yes how could I forget the wii, the wii was so underpowered and not a traditional console, was mainly used for sports and fitness more than anything, though I did enjoy the mario galaxy games.
Graphics and game quality wise it was
Ps2 vs xbox vs wii
Ps3 vs 360 vs wiiU
Ps4 vs xbone vs switch
Ps5 vs series X vs switch pro?
7 outta 10...i never bought a Sony hand held. But i knew the rest. So now I got a 10 out of 10.
@playstation_king Well the PS3 only won long after Sony actually cut down on the price and started releasing worthwhile software for it
The 360 was massacring it for basically 80-90% of the generation as a result of their first few years of exclusives, in addition to the fact that third party games were considerably better on 360 as a result of the Cell architecture being difficult to develop games around.
Sony was definitely biting the bullet as a result of how cocky they got after the success of the PS2
Just 3 xD and I bought basically all of these!
6/10 Not bad considering the fact I've never bought a console at launch... until now
2/10 looks that in our country was everything more expensive than elsewhere...
6/10 - no idea on the handhelds or PS move but the pricing for the consoles have been infamous (good and bad).
9 out of 10. Only missed the Move controller.
I got one. Only one I got right was the ps4 being 100 cheaper than Xbox lol.
10/10
Although I had looked at all the prices a few days ago to see how much each would cost adjusted for inflation in 2020. The PS1 may well of been just $299, but that would equate to over $513 today - more expensive than a Series X LOL
Anyway, that certainly helped with this quiz...
@Trajan so what gen is the switch if the wii u was this gen? Its pretty fair to say Nintendo do their own thing separate from being the main home console like playstation and Microsoft go for.
7/10 is more than I usually get in these quizzes so I’ll take it!
8 out of 10.psp go and ps move.i had a psp not go.haha.word up son
8/10. Not bad. 499 for ps5 is my guess.
Well...I nailed all the consoles, the Vita and VR
Kinda wierd how PSP Go cost more at launch than the base PSP and would be even cheaper due to age. How would that push people to go digital??
This gives me confidence that the consoles will be around £350-£450. Sony don't want another PS3 situation.
Pah....failed again. Only 4 for me.
Blimey, I was way off with handheld consoles, they were a little cheaper than I realised. I have a Vita and barely ever used it, seems like such a waste, I know how good it is, but I just never got into gaming on the go.
6/10 Didn't do as well with the peripherals.
9/10 I miss the PS vita price...
I missed.the PSP, Vita, move controller, and PSVR as I never owned those at all or not at launch.
Got all the handhelds wrong. I guess that's why I never bought any of those; them things were way too expensive.
8/10 Thank goodness there were no trick balls thrown in like the 20gb ps3 that never launched in the colonials. Tricky recalling what the aussie dollaryoos were apart ps3's $1000 price-hard to forget esp. when it failed abt 14months old! (Before consumer laws were tightened here.)
All i know is $750 was about what i expected for xbsx (despite pundits here touting less locally),hopefully ps5 will weigh in the same for the UHD version.
10/10, though I did have to look up the handheld and Move controller prices.
7/10. Not bad at all. I usually do much worse
6 out of 10 not bad
Didn't have a clue for most of them! Rarely buy consoles at launch though, to be fair.
