2019 saw the release of Terminator: Resistance, a dull FPS that performed poorly and boasted unconvincing character models. This year, Reef Entertainment has released Terminator: Resistance Enhanced on PlayStation 5, complete with additional content, bug fixes, and DualSense features. Unfortunately, much like Judgement Day, it seems that this game’s fate is inevitable, as the new version is as ugly as ever and remains burdened by frustrating performance issues.
The campaign is still generally enjoyable and the story and soundtrack are crafted for the benefit of long-time Terminator fans. However, this version offers a new game feature: Infiltrator Mode. This challenge allows players to take control of a T-800 and wreak havoc on the fleshy resistance. While this sounds great, the mode is indicative of the wider game’s issues: it spontaneously cuts out all sound effects and music, and the character models remain of poor quality.
It’s difficult to imagine how a game so focused on positioning itself as a love letter to the franchise managed to create a T-800 model that more accurately resembles John Cena than the iconic Arnold Schwarzenegger. Overall, it defies belief that a game made for PS5 boasts character models reminiscent of those in early Elder Scrolls titles.
The enhanced edition has almost eliminated load times as a benefit of the superior hardware. Yet, while the game mostly runs fine at 60 frames-per-second, it’s still prone to audio bugs. Could the new DualSense features be Resistance Enhanced’s saving grace, then? Sadly not. While the developer attempts to use the DualSense’s adaptive triggers when firing weapons, the result is barely a step up from last gen’s rumble features.
Terminator: Resistance Enhanced is a decent looking PS3 game that’s 10 years too late. It adds little value to the disappointing original release, and will only please hardcore fans of the movies. If you want to read more about the game, check out our review of the PS4 version.

Oooh damn! I was quite looking forward to trying this. Hard pass then.
I still recommend people to play this game if you are a terminator fan. It’s great IMO. Wait till the ps5 version is fixed and otherwise just play the ps4 version.
Reviewers are so out of touch when it comes to this game. Ive seen nothing but positive word of mouth from other gamers but going by reviews you would think the game is some unmitigated disaster that isn’t worth anyone’s time
Yeah, I got a PS4 disc over Xbox just to get the free upgrade and was like, this is an improvement? It looks like the same game?
I still think it’s enjoyable for Terminator fans even if it is a B-level game. But don’t expect a PS5 game. Or even a PS4 game. It’s more like a late PS3 game.
It’s a shame. Makes you feel the like whole “enhanced” version was just a way to make money.
Buy any version though and just enjoy the gameplay. It’s not saying much but it still is by far the best Terminator game for fans.
Review seems a little harsh. I don’t care if it isn’t massively improved over the PS4 version, I’ll definitely be replaying this gem when I get a PS5.
@JapaneseSonic I imagine doing it as a professional can take some sheen off and certainly change your opinions to those other then people who just play as a hobby. Through no real fault of their own.
@fR_eeBritney @dark_knightmare2 @darkswabber agree with all of you. Reviewers have simply got it wrong with this game. All the comments on the last review showed that with what people that had played it say.
It’s a shame reviewers hold so much sway with people and it puts them off a throughly enjoyable game.
Is this 70 euros? x)
And trophies does not work.
I know now why you cry
I could not agree with this reviewer more. PS4 version was not that bad. In performance or graphics. This isn't a triple AAA title. The team managed to do what the last four films failed to do. Feel like a Terminator universe.
The Enhanced version isn't a huge step up. But it's nice to see 60fps and a bit better visuals. DualSense is simple but so far most games are doing just that. Regular rumble.
I recommend the game to any die hard Terminator fan who wanted an actual sequel to T2. Is the story amazing? No. But it is well done and this isn't a huge team with a huge budget.
@majklpetr I know of three trophies that do not work. The rest do. And even if someone is having an issue where they are not. Sure it will be patched.
@AFCC Its a free upgrade if you own the PS4 version. I believe if you just get the PS5 it isn't full price.
@AFCC It's €45 but you can definitely get the physical version a little cheaper
This is a harsh look on a game that is not even Triple-A.
It is a budget game and actually manages to be more entertaining that a lot of blockbusters that only 15% of buyers actually complete.
Sure it is not the prettiest game out there, but hey... it doesn't have the same money.
Bought it on PS4 recently and it's a bad game, like really bad so I guess I won't be bothering with this version now.
This reviewer sounds like a nice chap
I loved the PS4 version. Day one bought the PS5 version. I still recommend it
It's a pretty bad "enhanced edition" for sure. On top of everything that the article mentions, the trophies are bugged. There's two trophies, plus the platinum, that are at 0.0% earned rate because the game is not properly tracking the trophy requirements.
@Total_Weirdo agreed! And honestly I think they push some of these ps5 versions of ps4 games through just so they can offer something on ps+ for the monthly ps5 game without giving anything away of real value. I felt the same about wreckfest this month.
Can someone who's played through the game and defended it, explain to me why game critics are so out of touch with this game? I've seen a few gameplay videos myself and it looks outdated, clunky as hell, and... well it just doesn't look fun to play; and I'm a Terminator fan! Please give me a reason to give it a go.
@JB_Whiting
I'd recommend youtube reviewer Civvie11 whos done a video on this game where he does a good job explaining why he likes it despite some criticisms.
@Phelaidar @Steel76 exactly. Couldn't agree more.
8/16 bit games get a free pass for not looking like AAA games, but everything else gets heavily criticized and doesn't get a fair score. Reviewers who, for better or worse, greatly influence gamers don't leave much of an option to developers who don't have a huge budget.
In my opinion, that's incredibly unfair. If the game is fun to play, it shouldn't matter how good the graphics are, unless someone doesn't like the art style (like Sammy with Knack), which I get.
Personally ive played it and enjoyed it yes it looks like a ps3 game but as a terminator game its actually ok. yes its a 6/10 but more enjoyable and worth your time than alot of AAA garbage that gets highly rated nowdays.
Easy platinum as well
@Stoffinator agree "The team managed to do what the last four films failed to do. Feel like a Terminator universe."
Bought this cheap a coupla months ago and only played it when the update went live - I had to check it had been updated !!!
I'll persevere as it plays fairly well.
@naruball Didn’t t they charge $60? If so, some expectations are placed to look decent, or have an alternate art style. I mean even if it has great graphics, it sounds like it would still be a really low scoring game. Maybe PS5 graphics would put it at a 5/10 from reading it.
I think the game itself is a 6-7. But the “enhancements” are a joke. That part is embarrassing IMO. They should have left it alone if they weren’t going to put an effort to make it truly shine.
Enhancements deserve a 4/10. But the game as a whole is better than that.
Just bought the xbox versions at 4 USD (microsoft store), OK, it's the last gen version but I can play it 4K 60FPS on Series X, meanwhile the PS5 version I wanted is 49.99USD ... sorry "next gen enhancements"... : /
It must be an exaggeration to compare the character models with the ones used in Bethesda's 1995 version, right?
I have the PS4 version ordered for 10€ since I do like the terminator movies (1&2... the rest is not canon in my book). Can't go to wrong at that price point.
I actually enjoyed it when I played it on PS4 a while back. Decent plot, good gunplay, great fanservice. One big downside: poor enemy AI, even on the highest difficulty level. Still, if you at least like the Terminator: play this game! Upgrade be damned.
@fR_eeBritney If its a cheap cash in with minimal effort you can be harsh. If you see some games do it for free and put in more effort. It may be a nice game but then just release the "upgrade" for a tenner.
@awp69 Lets split the difference 5/10 but i do believe the game can be good buts its a joke when you ask €50 for it and that a reason to give it a lower grade.
One problem I had with this title is that it's so unbalanced. The second you get an energy weapon, every other gun becomes useless. The enemies can shred you in seconds in the open, but you can literally run circles around them with with a broken wall.
Reading the review I was expecting this to be 2, maybe 3/10. 4/10 puts it on a level with Soulstorm, which seemed to at least be technically proficient?
I have never seen such a mixed comment section. Fantastic to see how different we all are. I've always been on the fence on this game since I heard about it. I think maybe one day I'll try it.
@JapaneseSonic Sick name & avatar.
Is it just me or hardly any developers know how to actually implement the dualsense features into the games? Appart from Astro pre-installed on PS5, no game seems to take proper advantage of that. Sony wanted to go the Nintendo way at least a few yards with adding playability/enjobable features to the next gen but all those studios just focus on 60fps/4k and day-one patches...seems they dont give two f*cks about the PS5 features that separate it from the pre-previous gen...
I can't comment on the PS5 upgrade side of things, but this references the original game being very disappointing which I don't really agree with. I am a fan of the original movies and I thought it did a good job of engaging the player. It is very much a AA game in scope and ambition but it is emminently playable.
Of course, charging for an upgrade that is not necessarily worth it is a different matter.
PS5 enhanced version now available as a free upgrade for PS4 version 😎
@dark_knightmare2 I don't know if its the case here, but it seems sine most reviewers get their games for free, everything is the same to them at one point.
They get alienated and don't realize that games have prices AND that games take money to make.
This game is a budget title made by a small team, and it is a great game if put into that perspective.
This reviews actually makes me mad. Wish they were this angry and picky with Triple-A games.
@Jaz007 Actually, that's a good point. Not sure how much they're charging for it. That would indeed make a difference. But I've noticed that with other budget titles. Regardless of the asking price, they're slaughtered for their graphics.
And at the end of the day, the price may come down, but the low score will remain forever for anyone thinking about giving it a chance a few months/years later.
Bargain bin sale it is then...though I'll prob just wait forever for a PS Plus release.
Just completed this one again and despite the glaring audio issues that bug out the PS5, still enjoyed it. Load times should be a pro because there weren't any, and dual sense trigger features worked well enough. (Must have been patched in since the review.)
Just go in expecting much and you won't be burned. Still better than any movie post T2.
hm, december 2023: price is 18 USD. I really like that game (bought it yesterday). Compared to Uncharted 4 graphics the game is more 2010 than 2021/23 but it's fun killing some robot spiders and saving the life of stranded people. Storyline looks ok to me. I like the soundtrack.
