@danzoEX agreed. It's kind of a shame to see how most of Sony studios get pigeon holed into being sequel factories. Sadly it's another consequence of bloated budget projects. They only greenlighting the blockbusters, despite titles like how, uncharted, TLOU, horizon, Spiderboy, ratchet, etc feeling very iterative/repetitive. Not to mention the effect it has had on the diversity of playstation's library and the cadence of releases.
It's a very corporate shareholder led way of thinking/decision making.
Ironically though I think the big point that is being missed is that a lot of these really talented Studios have built up such a great and notable pedigree that I think if they did do a new IP and completely new game it would be huge it'd be like the new game from such and such Studio..... you just know it's going to be dope and likely a finical blockbuster.
Strange. For me, really only gripe I had with the demo was it's slow stilted pace in combat.
It already felt slowed down in standard mode. Like watching the action game moves set in 70% motion speed. For me, that alongside what felt like a pretty noticeable input delay, gave the illusion of a lower framerate than it was actually running at.
Let's Be honest here, dragons Dogma as a thumbnail is a bit of a joke, as even after patch it's an unstable mess. This isn't a matter of developer targets. What we are seeing so frequently is a lack of optomization and polish in favor of meeting a release target.
Using fans as glorified beta testers. Pay to beta test. It's bs and we need to start reviewing these titles considering such deliberate garbage.
I don't understand this trend of releasing games without ng+, only to do so months and months or even longer after. Just makes zero sense for initial engagement.
This shouldn't Be a surprise at all. These games are literally designed to never end. It doesn't mean they are the most revered or of quality. They simply have existed persistently by designs money siphoning schemes.
Honestly, setting aside the scummy mtx aspect, we need to stop pretending away broken releases. Regardless of how good the game is or isn't in terms of art/gameplay design, if its technically a mess it should absolutely be factored into reviews. Any other products with technical malfunctions or shortcomings are reviewed including these considerations. Gaming should be no different. It's important to be real here as well in terms of the actual reason DD2 is getting user pushback. It's primarily because of the technical problems. The back and forth over the MTX gets clicks and views, but its the garbage polish that has many more upset.
The longer we continue to give glowing reviews for games they release and finish later with patches, all the while charging early adopters to be beta testers, the more widespread and prevalent it will become, and the more inconsequential hardware advancements will seem.
@Zenos I'm not upset at all my critiques were on the damn animation and combat speed. You just latched on to one thing to fit this us VS them narrative the hive mind thrives on for survival. Have a good night. There is not middle ground in an echo chamber indoctrinated mind. So move on to the next opportunity to parrot the same nonsense.
Just gave it a go
It has potential aside from the hyersexualized nonsense.
The main problem I have with it is its slow pace and accompanying animations. For the genre it's combat speed and animations are really stilted, and slow especially for the actual movesets that take place on screen. It makes the combat feel so much more janky than it is. Its a weird choice for sure. The very basic level design thus far is not great either.
We shall see how the full package is recieved. For now it's not a must buy for me.
let's be real here. The funds are there, these billion-dollar corporations just don't want to invest in it because maintaining growth on the shareholder profit front is the only goal in the myth that is the endless growth system in a finite world.
There is no balance, sustainability, or resiliency in the minds of those at the helm of greed these driven entities. Enough is never enough.
I'm sure a fair bit bought digitally.
However, a great Many More are just tired of paying full price to be beta testers for unfinished games, throw in cringey nickel and dime Mtx predation and aged last Gen looking visuals. These were really the only two major releases we know about thw foreseeable future for playstation along with rebirth, and they largely ended up being as underwhelming as they seemed for various reasons.
I suspect many are waiting for the games to be satisfactorily optomized and/or a sale now.
It will be very interesting to see how this game plays out. When you cut through all the toon thirsting and that sad discourse. Is this game good, mid like Ronin, or in all actuality a dud hyped up by very low-level nonsense.
@DennisReynolds "The Pro won't fix the performance issues of DD2."
No it definitely won't. Primarily because this titles technical problems indicate a lack of effort in optomization alongside holes in the REengine. When a game has its draw distance for common around town npcs turned down to a comical 15 feet'ish' ahead of the player, it's clear they just pushed this thing out without making the efforts needed. This game is not pushing graphical boundaries by any stretch. Nor does it have systems that warrants its shortcomings.
When a 4090 and high end cpu lose over half the frames in town, it's clear this is not hardware related, It's a development problem.
That improving should have been done pre launch. This same old release story is growing very, very tired.
Done condoning this half @$$ bull with full price adoption. You put out a subpar product on the optimization and polish front, and I'll pay a subpar price for it, only AFTER you patch it up.
We really need to start compelling change in the only way we can.
Nope, done paying to play unfinished products. They are supposed to invest in QC and optomization not charge their fans for it alongside Mtx bull$#! /.
I want to play it, but I want this trend to stop more and the only way for that to happen is to stop condoning it out of a fomo.
This is kind of funny in it's absurdity, but the fact that players are considering completely breaking aspects of immersion to get a game in better shape technically because Capcom didn't do so prerelease is just sad.
Another example of paying full price to be QC/beta testers for a billion dollar corporation.
Oh and spoiler alert because reviews conveniently have failed to mention: this single player game locks the ability to create a new character/save behind one of its many microtransactions.... You read that right. You want to start a new character in the is unoptomized adventure? That'll be $1.99 please.
Can't make this up. Gaming is becoming like Bond villian level dastardly.
Saw this one coming. Ninja has been milking their engine and formula without addressing its shortcomings for way too long.
If your loot system is so bloated and tedious you need an auto garbage dump system for it, its a problem.
The greater scope they chose to tackle should have been the moment they evolved, yet instead they just used their formula along with duck taping in generic open world fodder tired for some time now.
As had been the case since nioh 2. It's steep discount material for me.
@ShogunRok gotcha. Alongside those lines, other reviews suggest many of the 12 year old game's flaws seem to be carried over to this, can you speak to that at all?
@ShogunRok As you admit that you are a huge fan of the original if you can step back from that a little bit and the hype of the release. In all honesty is this just a retelling of the original Dragon's Dogma, essentially an expanded remaster?
It's all kind of a mute point when you realize that a lot of the limitations we're experiencing with the PS5 are CPU related. meaning that with such a modest if really not any Improvement on the CPU side that this won't fix problems where they have to downgrade games like Final Fantasy rebirth merely because the game isn't adequately optimized to stream in the assets at a high quality.
So paying a mid Gen refresh premium for a better GPU and ram speed won't equate to gains in the problems that are directly related to cpu bottlenecks because they chose to largely leave the cpu perf without meaningful improvement.
Slightly better hardware and more AI upscaling just means more justifications for poorly polished and unoptomized games to be the norm, relying on these inconsistent crutches to compensate.
Dlss has been good for PC games that really use it correctly, however FSR has been absolutely disasterous for the quality of console releases and is really the only upscaling used on consoles.

Definitely waiting after previews have suggested a pretty Mundane gameplay loop, story and shaky performance considering the visuals. Oh and that awful gear system is back which is my primary negative with these team ninja titles.
Could the demo not have had any impact on day one sales of this title?
We come up with excuse after excuse all because mainstream critics pile on rave reviews and God forbid they may not translate to hive mind agreement and thus sales.
Could it be that some proportion of the actual gaming base here, abroad, or both just don't agree or at the least don't want to play a re-imagining of a classic in the release day technical condition it is in? Or perhaps some just don't want to soil the nostalgia of the original at all. That doesn't even touch on the fact that the east is largely addicted to mobile gaming.
Where are the western sales figures? Have those been hidden? Will those be reported on?
I myself had my opinion changed on a release window purchase solely based on its shoddy polish and cut corners technically. Which is now likely for DD2 as well. Surely others have held off as well. We are being asked to pay to play unpolished/optomized products at an ever increasing rate from AAA outfits. It's unacceptable.
@Porco you have a valid point It's not Like this title is pushing any visual or technical boundaries by any stretch. This should be a stable 30 at the very least.
These corporate scumbags are just idiots. He'll push and push and fail and fail and run IPs into the ground until he's fired and/or the studios are closed/sold. Jim Ryan's be everywhere. Tons of Harry Potter skinned garbage to come much like Pokémon.
Artists and devs who actually game need to revolt and consolidate talent in opposition to cutthroat corporate rule. Less their livelihoods continue to be gambled with chasing mirages in the desert.
Games can be good, and creative, and fun AND profitable without being gambling based addiction schemes, or requiring ridiculous budgets and subsequent returns.
After seeing how FF Rebirth is at launch, I would greatly appreciate a demo on this one. That being said I don't think we need to see anymore of these montage trailers of it.
I would like to know in truth if it's just a remake disguised as a true sequel though.
@nomither6 100% It will happen though, because that is the nature of the predatory economic system governing life as we know it. To these mongers, games are just products to be exploited. Thus, any way they can lower the cost of production and increase profit, they will. AI, will unfortunately be the death of many human livelihoods primarily because humanity is governed by sociopaths.
Yet we speak of last Year being one of the best for gaming ever....
I don't think this just has to to with the pandemic bubble burst. Most of that already took place at the end of 2022 into 2023. I think this is also largely due to two factors hitting in recent succession alongside already existent creative stagnation and bloated budgets. Most of which are truly unnecessary in iterative, reused assets sequels, which is a major problem especially for Sony.
Aside from that, I think layoffs are occurring due to The larger push back against new and future live service projects which has tanked the greed driven prospects of these predatory schemes. Beyond that most of these recent layoffs comes right off the heels of the the greed feeding rise of more widespread use and acceptability of AI.
Most game devs are no longer run by artists, and thus decisions are made solely on investment and returns. AI, is just another way to replace development time and development staff. The rise of AI has executives and shareholders frothing at the Mouth with the prospect of cutting jobs and destroying livelihoods to funnel extra coin to their pockets.
We will see an enormous influx of even more generic games than already are emerging. Games where a large part of the worlds, assets, and story work will be AI generated. Far beyond just the procedural generated garbage that already exists and in my opinion, more often than not sucks.
@DennisReynolds no one is saying this, Nor are the issues being widely discussed a matter of not reaching 4k 60.
The output resolution isn't the problem with the game. It's a multitude of cut corners on do display here. Poor lighting or lack of lighting and shadows, terrible post processing in perf mode, low res ps3 era textures and assets mixed in with OK textures, extremely close lod limits, shoddy traversal animation, lack of proper motion blur in graphics mode and more are the issues here. This is considered a AAA release of a major IP is it not?
I don't understand why you are using this narrative of the irrational expectations of console gamers as a means of rebuttal when tons of games from last gen and this Gen look, and run better with far higher quality assets than this.... ON CONSOLES. We simply expect the game to release finished without its parts being held together with duct tape and cheap glue for an advertised AAA release/price tag.
@Porco it looks worse than than remake. It absolutely could have run at 30 on ps4, albeit with far more optomization and finish work put into it. As it is now, it's a mess visually even as a native ps5 title.
This game should not have released in this state. The install base for sure explains most if it. Alongside the many that likely put this in the "wait list," after seeing it's polish in the demo; Despite those trying to pretend away or divert the discourse surrounding the low quality assets and post processing on display.
Completely agree with others sentiments here. Focusing on the quality of the image on screen as the determining factor is very narrow. It's the input lag that really crushes the viability of cloud gaming for any titles that require precision.

Re: PS Plus Premium's Cloud Streaming Is Much, Much Better Than You Think
Completely agree with others sentiments here. Focusing on the quality of the image on screen as the determining factor is very narrow. It's the input lag that really crushes the viability of cloud gaming for any titles that require precision.
