Last time I took a goty nomination/winner as an indication for a good game was in the early 2010's. But seeing personal goty from people with tastes that align to mine is always enlightning. For pure entertainment value Many a True Nerd usually has fun goty lists, if a bit esoteric at times. 😁
The whole premise of this game feels like a sidequest/activity/dream sequence of a more realised game. But at the right price point I might give it a whirl down the road. Thanks for the review.
I don't mean to knock Alan Wake in any way or form, haven't played either of them so have no opinion on their quality.
But from a business/investment standpoint it's a bit strange how so many games keep underperforming. Isn't it common practice to do market research, to have analytical data that points you to the amount of customers/platforms interested in your product and then set a budget in relation to that number?
Are the gaming industry infested with bad market researchers? Aren't the market reacting how the industry think? I mean a personal "artsy" low budget title is one thing, but big budget games that needs 10's of million of $$$ wouldn't get investors unless there's some paperwork to support it's viability.
I have questions. 😋
In the end, it's not on us to support game developrs. It's on them to make good games we want, isnt it?
No ill will to Remedy and I do sincerely hope they bounce back.
@Lup It's a wonderful game but if you don't have much experience with d&d rulesets the character sheets can be a bit overwhelming. For a first run I'd keep it simple with a pure fighter class and since the developers are a bit sadistic I'd set the difficulty below normal until you wrap your head around the systems.
It's a daunting game to get into, but oh so rewarding and open ended when it comes to classes and builds. And the story is both epic and off the rails. 😁
Also finishing up Metaphor: ReFantazio, what a great game. Next up is another run of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, I keep returning to this gem of a cRPG.
And Chrono Trigger on my handheld in bed makes sure I never get enough sleep. 😅
Sony can apparently achieve monopoly by closing studios, only a gigachad of a company can twist reality so much that they turn an subtraction into an addition. Impressive!
Hope you're happy Xbox, see what happens when you stop pushing your console...we start eating each other instead of bashing Xbox users, as nature intended. 😋
Been keeping an eye on this, it's got promise. Excellent worldbuilding and some heavy hitting names behind it. Hopefully we'll get a gameplay trailer soon-ish. 🤞
Glad it didn't Concord. Apart from a handful of cringy/preachy scenes it looks to be an OK action rpg game if you're a fan of modern Bioware.
A comparable game would be Dragon's Dogma 2 which peaked at a 228K concurrent users on steam. That translated to Capcom being happy with the release/sales. DA:TV might still pick up and further grow during the weekend, we'll see I guess.
But when all is said and done, it's not a flop/failure or a runaway success. Hopefully this will put a sock in it when it comes to both sides of the "culture war". And most important of all I hope you all are enjoying your time with the game and get some bang for your bucks. 🎮
@extragood As with all things gaming related, be it publishers, developers or console manufacturers. They're never more then one must-have title away from being beloved/forgiven/whatever.
As of this exact moment I don't see the value of the Pro. But the MOMENT a game I really really want shows improvements I care about then I'll for sure get it. And I think I'm not alone in that sentiment.
Personally I love it when the comment section gets snarky and spicy. But in the end it's all about enjoying our games, and luckily no amount of online discord can take that away from us.
Glad Pro-Bros is getting some value for their $$$. Personally I'm waiting for the complete edition to be released and then have a nice sale...so probably around the release of PS6. 😁
Wondering what they're cooking with regards to DLC content. Capcom do be loving smaller DLC releases, but hope they've got something bigger in the pipeline aswell.
I always feel like I've missed out when it comes to the Tales series. Might pick up a title and give it a whirl one of these days.
@Oram77 Might be some sort of publisher/investment deal, I highly doubt it's an outright acquisition as they've just recently been to court over their last splurge.
But who knows, they DO have f*ck you money so I might be wrong.
Gave the demo a run through when it released. Even if it didn't impress me I had fun with the limited time I spent in the game. Ultimately I ended up deciding waiting for a sale.
I'm all for it. Either they keep failing, which is entertaining in it's own twisted way. Or they hit jackpot with a mega GaaS hit that can bankroll future games.
It's clear that they're desperate for a money printing title, let's just hope it doesn't cost them everything trying to produce one.
I went to download the beat on PSN, thought I'd check out the price while I was there...it's $80 for the base version here in norway. I enjoyed my time with Worlds, but that's a bit too rich for my blood. No need for me to try the beta since I won't be joining the fun until the price drops, so maybe a year from now. 😋
@Kidfunkadelic83 That sounds painful, hope they heal up fast. 🤞
@Maubari What was that you said about negative Nancy's. 😉
@Maubari I haven't had any use of the Ignore or Report buttons yet. All in all these comments sections are quite tame, and at times entertaining. But I do like hearing different people's opinions...even if they are criminally wrong. 😁
On topic - Modern Bioware has a lot to prove to get any hype from me with a new ME game, but I'm all for letting them cook. That is if they're still around. 🤷♂️
If people have that kind of money to throw around, then more power to them. 💸 But it does give off a bit of "tattoo of PS logo on forehead" brand loyalty vibes. 😁
I don't mind the slow/sluggish movement that much. They're kind of hard sci-fi tanks on legs more then anime mecharobots...but that is still not an excuse for bad controls.
The rest doesn't sound too flattering either. I heard they kind of half-assed the story in regards to the clan (Smoke Jaguar) they chose to portray aswell.
Thanks for the review. Might give it a go down the road when it's at a more fitting price.
Apart from the discussion of fan-favorite vs commercially sucessful this is a bit off-topic - But I wish the gaming industry would adopt the old Hollywood formula of having a director do a box-office slop for the masses and in return they got to make a personal passion project. It might've helped with morale/burnout, kept the creativity flowing and so forth.
On the other hand making a game is a multi-year endeavour, so not exactly a 1:1...and I guess there's a reason (money) why movie studios stopped doing it.
Thank the emperor for Indie studios keeping gaming fresh.
@Nepp67 I get where you're coming from, there's such a thing as too much goofiness. But seeing as this is a "side-story" from the main series I don't mind them leaning into it. It will hopefully be very entertaining. But, as always, I'll wait for reviews and user feedback before deciding if I'll get it on release or wait for a future sale.
@PloverNutter Ahh, I see. Thanks a bunch for the info. I seemed to have had the impression that they were beloved and well regarded, might've just been Sony fans clamouring to the one big exclusive fps on the system at the time.
Personally I have no horse in the race, just glad they're finding success.
I think it's for the best. The team seemed to be out of ideas for that world by the time the last installment came around.
@naruball I had the impression that, apart from Killzone 3 and the Vita game, Killzone as a series overal was both critically and commercial successful. But wouldn't be the first time my memory is a bit spotty.
The opening to TLoU 1, cheap as it was, is still one of the more memorable moments in modern gaming for me. But all in all I'm not the biggest fan of cinematic games, so a title with even more emphasis on gameplay and environmental storytelling sounds good.
Read the Eisenhorn books earlier this year, great read. 40K is such an amazing and rich universe with endless opportunities for storytelling. Looking forward to this episode.
Aww, poor Sony. They really, really wanted to release it with a disc drive you see. But the stupid market forced their hand. They might save some money, but I'm sure it is with a heavy heart.

There's this saying that has a metaphor about the relation between fire and smoke, not necessary connected to this in any way.
Yeah, these games needs a minimum playing (paying) userbase to keep on going. Since we're not privy to that info, it's hard to tell how dire the situation is. But once the general opinion becomes that it has the stank of failure, then it's hard to get rid of it.
Yeah, it's so stupid to have this game behind a premium subscription pay wall. Tbf, this info has been avalible since the reveal...if a bit muddled.
But if they were just going to release it as is, why not release it into the wild for $4.99. I was hoping this release would help Capcom gauge the market for a potential new game in the series, good luck with that now. Ah well, guess I don't have the same sized forehead as the people at Capcom and Sony. 👨🎓

@playstation1995 Darkest Dungeon is fantastic, one of the few games that have stayed installed since it's release. The mood and VA is untouchable.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 PS5 Offers Tasty Gameplay Morsel
Troika Games made some absolute amazing rpg games back in the day, janky and unstable, but amazing non the less.
I'll be mighty suprised if this can live up to the legacy of Bloodlines 1, but seeing as I love surprises I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
