Last game I pre-ordered was Fallout 4 Collectors Edition. Biggest let down of my gaming life, luckily got most of my money back by selling it. Now I never buy anything without checking gameplay, mechanics, stability and vibe.
Most games get bought on sale (excluding an indie game here and there) it takes an amazing gem of a game to part 70$ from my wallet.
I don't care about Ubisoft in the slightest, they can crash and burn and I wouldn't shed a tear.
But for people who actually work there to actively make a bad situation worse feels so insanely petty. If ever there were a time for unity at Ubisoft, this is it.
Boohoo, I have to actually meet up at work to get paid. You can't make this sh*t up. 😅
The gameplay looks fun and interesting. I might be in the minority here but I'd prefer it if they yeeted the floating humans in the trash and rather give us more customisable/personalised mechs. 🤷♂️
A couple of hours into the demo now. I partly agree with a couple of earlier comments about the graphics. Not bad per se, but IMO feels a bit clean, plasticy, floaty and, for a lack of a better word, Unreal engine asset-y. No granular map edges, you just kind of glide off things like the whole map is wrapped in an invisible wall to make sure you don't get stuck on scenery.
But I like the art design, characters and cutscenes. Just what I'd expect from a modern jrpg.
The story and world is very intriguing, the UI is gorgeous, the music f**king slaps and I enjoy what I've experienced of the battle system/mechanics so far.
@EfYI Hehe, sure thing. I'll just send EA an email proclaiming the congressional "you-suck-therefore-we-own-the-IP-now" enactment of 1876 and get right to work. Just need to look under the sofa cushions for some funds first. 😅
@Yagami It is what it is. It's not what I'd want in a DA game. But as we can clearly see, DA is a lot of different things to different people. Let's just hope they can finish the story with some competence.
My cheesy dream would be for Bioware to have a suprise showcase for Dragon Age. Starts with footage from the game we've seen so far, but after a few seconds of gameplay a deep laughter starts interrupting the video.
The footage fades away as some epic metal music amps up and a platform rises up two guys wrapped in shadow. Some pyrotechinc awesomness light up the stage and it's revealed that the two guys are the dynamic Doc-duo Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk.
They announce that they've bought back the company from EA as the crowd goes wild. On a screen behind them we see the EA logo on fire as our boys start to speak.
"Did you really think the safe, quirky, weak ass hack'n'slash casual slop of Veilguard would be our next game?" They both laugh as they in unsion say "F**ck no! Here's the real Dreadwolf."
Then we see glimses of terrifying demons before they show us tactical gameplay, deep rpg mechanics, grounded companions and a taste of the difficult chioces we would have to make on our journey.
I loved my first outing in HZD, but that was mostly because of the amazing world building and intriguing lore. Never been so happy to get snippets of information from terminals, logs and npcs.
Gameplay was serviceable and the open world design was more of the same as I've seen in countless other games. All in all I enjoyed my experience. But not enough to revisit the world in the sequel and certainly not enough to replay the game for some prettier graphics.
Glad I experienced it, but it was a one and done for me.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Absolutly agree. I guess Capcom don't have much faith in the Dino Crisis IP and wants to test the waters and have a look at the metrics/userbase with this "release" before they commit to something with more substance.
Our benign overlords at Sony delivered Concord to us on silver platter. We were supposed to feast upon the GaaS of plenty for months..no years to come. It was supposed to be the future. 🏆
But thanks to all of you wallet-terrorists and bigots now Sony must scramble through the garbage can for something to sate us. This was not the plan.
@UltimateOtaku91 Ahh, nice. I saw that they had 2 question marks in their lineup but didn't know the Yo Kai Watch game was expected. Thanks for the info.
@Nei For sure, it would make my day. 😁 Level 5 has something planned for unveiling tomorrow, I doubt it will be anything even remotely interesting. But we can hope for a miracle. 😋
@nomither6 You're probably right, I'm not versed in the infrastructure of multiplayer and crossplay when it comes to servers.
But when it comes to public perception, people are more accepting to "pay-the-login-fee" for online games.
It seems like most publishers are aggressively chasing sign-ups. It comes of as greedy and anti consumer. EA, Ubislop, Xbox, Sony etc not only wants top dollars for their games but also our data.
There's no doubt that there's turmoil in the gaming industry. I guess they all want to future proof themselves in case the industry pivots to the subscription model that they all seem to be salivating over.
All guesses and opinions of course, but it'll be interesting to see how thing will turn out. In either case I have a backlog and retro games to last me a decade if things turn to *****. 🎮
For online games that require access to PSN servers or crossplay co-op games it's justifiable to have log into a PSN account as long as it's clearly stated.
I've never bought a full price game digital. All my digital purchases are deep sales. What blows my mind is that there aren't more pro-consumer laws concerning digital purchases.
I'm not going all digital until there are clearly defined international laws regarding ownership and access.
The only multi billionaire company I trust that don't sell DRM free games is Steam.
I like weird and creative marketing. Not sure how big the F1/JRPG overlap is, but is you're both a fan of MoneyGram Haas F1 Team and Atlus games this marketing has your name on it. 😋
Loved this game when it released, amazing adventure game. Sadly I've not been able to enjoy these types of games anymore and that saddens me very much.
Great quick summary and review, hope this game finds many happy homes.
It's such a cutthroat market. No one is safe, no matter the pedigree.
Fairgame$ seems so incredibly tone deaf and desperately wants to be cool. But could be the gameplay lifts it up of the trash.
Concord don't need to be commented upon. ☠️
Haven't seen enough of Marathon to get any real impressions either way. Will it include a SP/Co-op campaign w/multiplayer modes? Or will they try to cold-boot a GaaS leaning on the older games?
Let's hope they're cooking up something good, or they'll be cooked.
Loved DA: Origins, some of Biowares best work IMO.
Gave up on DA2 about halfway as it was too repetitive w/copy-paste environments.
DA: Inquisition I dropped after I got to the third zone. Seemed uninspired to me.
And after Biowares resent releases I'd have to be a rabid fanboy to trust them with my money again until I get the whole picture and see some unbiased gameplay and systems in action.
I'm just waiting for them to finish the game (FFVII) and release it as a bundle. I'm not paying 210$ (70 x 3) to play a remake, no matter how much content they cram into each "episode". From what I've seen I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but I'm a patient man. 😁
FFXVI haven't caught my attention at all, something about it's style/identity seems kinda meh to me. Might pick it up at a later date.
In my mind BF was always the more realistic and down-to-earth of the big military shooters. That's what set them apart from the rest. It boggles the mind that you wouldn't lean into the thing your fanbase love you for instead of chasing trends.
I get that they want to expand the player base, but quirky Specilists and stupid gameplay decisions ain't it.
Taking a timeout and revisit what made BF2/BF3/BF4 so popular in the first place sounds like a good start to me.
But we'll see if they can back up those words with actions. 🤷♂️
I don't mind gaas games needing a steady income of funds to keep pushing out content. Especially seeing as the market has mostly rejected the subscription model.
Luckily outside of a few asian countries the user base (usually) quickly turn down games that are pay-to-win. So most of them seem to stay with cosmetics and some QoL stuff.
The only thing I'd wish was that here were legislation in place to make all games with microtransactions age gated to 18+. When you see how predatory they go after the user on a psychological level then I think it's reasonable that you need to be an adult to interact with these games. Just my 2 cents.
The sh**tiest part is that some publishers gatekeep bonuses behind MC scores. I mean you could make a customer darling of a game that sells millions and millions of copies, but because you got a 84 MC score the whole dev team must suffer. *****!
I think finding individual voices/reviewers that reflect your own taste in games or watching some extended gameplay are much more important then some general consensus. And that is especially true if you enjoy anything that is deemed a niche genere.
I agree to a point about the negativity of review bombing. But I mostly blame the industry at large for this. Gaming is one of the few businesses where the customers are held in contemp. I can understand that some people feel the need to lash out when we get bombarded with industry people giving the impression that we are an necessary evil that needs to be educated, kept quiet and keep on paying.

Fun to see actual research that confirms that the real-life need to feel productive/creative translates to games aswell.
Not exactly my cup of tea, but there's no denying that cleaning, farming, renovation and job-simulaton games are very popular.
