Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 482

@frankmcma Stick with it and push on with the campaign, the side stuff is handy for completing regional challenges but story gear appears to have some kind of soft cap. I was 45-50 finishing the campaign and everything that dropped during the campaign was lower level than what I had. Side content will be there when you're done.

Re: "We've Lost the Console Wars," Says Trillion Dollar Underdog Xbox

Marquez

I'm sitting here waiting for this to go one way or the other and then for Xbox to start producing games this gen that finally entice me into their ecosystem, alongside my PS5 and Switch. Either they'll do that through this acquisition or, if it doesn't go through, by investing their $69bn in loose change in their own existing/newly spun-up studios.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 481

@Northern_munkey The main problem I have with the grind is how flat the XP is - it doesn't really matter how good the last round I played is, there's ~19k XP waiting for me at the end of it, regardless. Note that I've only played career mode so far and need to get into the daily and online options.

Image-wise it's pretty good for me, except for my avatar. Facially so weird...

Re: Rumour: Next Assassin's Creed Now Apparently Sneaking into October

Marquez

Origins had the most compelling story beats of the recent three, Odyssey the best central character (Kassandra) and Valhalla's intertwining with history was something I really enjoyed - as a Brit.

From Origins to Valhalla there's no doubt however that the bloat increased exponentially and chipping away at the resulting grind wasn't fun for a lot of people. If this new game distils the last three's best bits (and mechanics) into a much more compact map and story it will land really well IMHO.

Re: New Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Patch Is Out Now, Focuses on Bug Fixes

Marquez

I can only speak to my own experience and aside from a crash in the opening cutscene (obviously not leaving a great early impression!) and some flickering in another cutscene later in the game, I've had no issues playing in resolution mode. And more importantly, it's a brilliant game so far - if the story sticks the landing it's a GOTY contender for me.

Re: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PS5 Bugs Will Be Squashed Across Weeks of Patches

Marquez

@OrtadragoonX Agree that standards should be set, however my point is that the sheer variation of specs on PC in particular (never mind having to shoehorn next-gen games into the not next-gen Series S) means it's practically impossible to achieve across all platforms. Certainly not giving devs a free pass, but I am mindful of just how hard it is for them.

Re: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PS5 Bugs Will Be Squashed Across Weeks of Patches

Marquez

@Anke Precisely this. No amount of testing pre-launch can catch every bug or issue experienced by millions of players. On PC there's also the added complication of there being a myriad of specs and setups out there that can't all be replicated ahead of launch - hence some of the more recent disastrous PC ports/releases, Jedi: Survivor included.

Clearly, making games is very hard and having a release being perfect out of the gate is a really tough ask. But trying telling that to 'Expert Guy on the Internet' as he rages into the void of online forums.

Re: Destiny 3 Begins Trending on Twitter As Fans Are Fed Up with Current Game

Marquez

@OneWingedAngel As a gamer with a family that hamster wheel and the time sink it creates is the big turn-off for me now. Looking at my backlog and then logging into Destiny to chase pinnacles instead is just not healthy. The game needs more clarity, more bite-sized activities and be less of a job for sure. I just wonder if that’s the legacy of Luke Smith and his love of World of Warcraft, the ultimate second job of a video game.

Re: Destiny 3 Begins Trending on Twitter As Fans Are Fed Up with Current Game

Marquez

@OneWingedAngel While I'm not quite so negative on the game I mirror your sentiment. I get frustrated with the inconsistency of content - uneven story beats, reskinned guns, no investment in PvP (especially new maps) and don't even get me started on Gambit...

But every time I jump in and play I have an amazing time - first class gunplay, an excellent clan to play with, super-smooth PS5 visuals and more. After over 5000 hours across D1 and D2 this is what I will always come back for though these days, once I've been through new content for the first time, I tend to ditch the grind and play other games instead.

Re: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PS5 Physical Copies Require a Download to Play

Marquez

@nomither6 When you talk about 'the same digital copy that I got for cheaper than a physical copy' I can only assume you're talking about buying digital games post-launch and on sale.

I always compare the prices of both versions for games I buy and, having bought practically every major PS5 launch so far on physical, I can say with confidence that physical has always been better value. I even factor in using discounted PS Store credits (from ShopTo) and very occasionally get within a few £, but not cheaper.

Re Jedi: Survivor specifically I have preordered the deluxe edition for £72 physical and it's £89.99 digital. So partial/complete game on disc issue aside, I've saved 20% AND have a version with trade-in value.
