I'm finding the 30fps a little distracting, when the game unlocked at midnight I played around five hours and have done similar this afternoon. Pretty sure on one of the authorised previews with ApexHound they said 60fps is coming in future. And I hope it does. But so far? At least an 8/10 for me, a stunning recreation of golf.
The early access, cunningly positioned to incorporate a whole weekend, is very tempting - even for an extra £20, though I did plan on buying all the big releases as physical editions this gen. Dilemma.
I've preordered and I was looking forward to playing from 7th, as I'm off for the Easter long weekend 7th-10th. Amazon emailed me to say it'll now be delivered 11th... tempted to sign up for the trial as a result.
This game's going to polish up to a shinier state than Kratos' first party head, to a point where it'll hit that first party quality bar and be a Sony game in all but studio name. Consider me excited.
If the PS Plus Essential tier had at least one guaranteed new indie release every month, possibly part-funded by Sony, they could flip the discoverability problem on its head. This would be a solid way for them to invest in the indie space and become synonymous with it.
They are making limited steps in this direction right now - thinking of Tchia coming to to Extra day one - but it will take a more regular cadence of included releases to achieve what Uncle Shu (I wish he was my uncle) says they are working towards.
I had a great time with the beta, playing druid and rogue (to 17 and 21). I had similar concerns about early balance - but we do need to remember that Diablo end game is typically where it's at so as long as there's better balance later on - all good. Definitely starting with a rogue after my beta experience, all my friends appear to be going for necromancer even though they're convinced it will get hit early with the nerf bat. Even early on there are some amazing melee/ranged combos available to the rogue and it has really strong cc too.
A couple of disappointments aside (dodge cooldown, especially when playing rogue and no UI iteration in a decade of development - seriously!) I had a fantastic time with the beta and have preordered the game.
Played Druid to 15 and Rogue to 21, I have to say the glass cannon nature of the rogue had me grinning.
Story beats were way better integrated in gameplay compared to previous iterations, the atmosphere is a return to the darkness of D2 and items perks (so far) hint at way more interesting build crafting than D3's gear score obsession.
I have really high hopes for this, particularly with the commitment to a complete Japanese cast, speaking in Japanese. Visually, I'm expecting the Kurosawa nods to be in flashback sequences, leaving them free to make the visuals pop in the main narrative.
Destiny 2 today, making sure to pay my respects to Zavala every time I'm in the tower.
Back onto Hogwarts Legacy later I think, I'm not far in and got sidetracked by D2: Lightfall, FM23 and Civ VI... the evil trinity of time-sinks in my life.
He has been the heart, soul and voice of my time as a Titan main in Destiny and Destiny 2 for the best part of a decade. Watched a couple of episodes of Fringe before bed last night and poured out a glass in his memory. Rest easy, Commander.
I can't wait personally, though I'm not looking forward to the game's less 'considerate' critics resurfacing from their basements like freshly minted Uruk-hai...
One team from our clan managed a contest clear, with a second coming close. I finished it last night - it's the most spectacular-looking raid in a long time, possibly ever - and while there's only four encounters they are all very well done. Looking forward to running this one on repeat. Despite some mis-steps story wise I'd give Nightfall an 8, with the raid now factored into the score.
Destiny 2: Nightfall for me. Despite some janky story beats, given we are in the penultimate expansion of the Light and Dark saga, this is a great addition to the game so far. The QoL changes they have made mean it's easier than ever for new or lapsed players to jump back in. It looks gorgeous on PS5 and the gunplay is still second to none.
Jumping back into Hogwarts Legacy after some time away with work, then getting in my character prep for Destiny 2 Lightfall before… more time away with work. Really bad timing, back to back trips!
@get2sammyb so this is what you all get up to with that sweet sweet PushSquare clicks money! More of this I say, great article - thank you.
@EliJapan people get to travel around new places in whatever manner is good for them, for their own enjoyment. There's no right or wrong way to explore somewhere new, or write about it.
Bought it for my 15yo son who read all the books many times over. I also had a conversation with him beforehand about the discourse surrounding the game, so that he's informed at least and can form his own opinions. He'll platinum it over next week's school half term holiday I'm sure, then I'll give it a go despite having no attachment to the franchise myself.

Going to try and get back into Hogwarts later today. It’s charming, but not particularly compelling. Failing that, Destiny 2!
