@Therabidraccoon The problem with all of the games you listed are that they're third party, so Sony would have to get the licenses for them. And considering these are PS1 games you're talking about, some of the games' rights might have been passed around to other companies. I would love to replay Pandemonium, but I'm unsure who actually owns it, since it was developed by Toys for Bob and published by Crystal Dynamics. I do agree that Sony needs to actually make Premium better for people to want to subscribe to it.
Unfortunately, most of the games that interested me in that showcase are going to come out on Playstation (or Switch). As usual, the Microsoft games left a lot to be desired. Avowed didn't look very good and Fable was kind of meh, as well. There's maybe 2-3 Xbox exclusives that are actually interesting, but there is still no big reason to own an Xbox, since those games are coming out on PC day one, too.
Imagine wasting money on keeping an announcement of a game exclusive for 48+ hours, only for the games to outsell on the other platforms. Unfortunately, they will likely be on Game Pass day one and that is where the majority of people will play it, so they won't buy the games.
@Shepherd_Tallon That is a possible alternative to importing your party into Rebirth. You could auto start on Hard Mode, or a harder mode depending on the loadout, in Rebirth if you have a endgame save from Remake. Maybe have a special difficulty just for those who import.
I do wonder if one of the tweets will talk about stuff that carries over into the second game, should you have a save from the first one. Pretty sure that's been a big topic of discussion among players.
@AverageGamer I agree that their image has improved since the Xbox One launch, but they still feel like they are somewhat in the pits. Their in-house game development is hardly worth talking about, since they haven't really produced much of anything in the last few years. Halo Infinite was a bust and the hype around that didn't last very long, and while they have had some success with smaller titles, their bigger titles are nowhere to be seen. They better hope the ones in the current pipeline come out very well, especially Starfield, as that needs to be especially good.
The biggest problem seems to be that Microsoft doesn't know how to handle their studios efficiently. Despite some fan criticism, Sony and Nintendo do release a lot of first party games that sell very well. They seem to have a good handle on how to run things with their developmental studios, while Microsoft just purchases their well-established studios and leaves them be.
It's definitely a huge missed opportunity to not have custom side panels for the console, other than the basic colors they already offer. If they had some custom ones for God of War or Horizon, I probably would have bought some already.
@NEStalgia I imagine the Mario movie probably sparked interest in the Mario games, outside of Mario Kart, although Mario Kart and Odyssey always seem to be featured in the top 10 quite often (the latter has been there a lot in recent weeks).
@UltimateOtaku91 Unfortunately, Sony shot themselves in the foot by claiming the higher end of the console market, which didn't include Nintendo at all. So, because of that one statement, this whole ordeal doesn't include Nintendo in the conversation.
Back in 2016, Microsoft was the 9th highest donor for Cramer, so it's not all too surprising that he's trying to get likely more money from them for lobbying against Sony and getting this acquisition to finalize.
There's something going around that this footage is from a Sega Japan internal meeting from 2021, which also included beta footage of Sonic Frontiers and even Jet Set Radio.
The gameplay loop looks extremely boring, with one of the reasons being that all of the characters yield guns, even though that really shouldn't. They could have made King Shark a brute-type character that relies on melee attacks, Captain Boomerang have all kinds of well, boomerangs, and Deadshot being the firearm specialist. Harley Quinn could have been a technical expert, with all kinds of gadgets, as well as a bat. Instead, everyone has a gun and they may differ with their special skills, but that's about it.
The whole thing with MS trying to buy Activision is that they are inept at growing/managing their own studios. They had Rare, Lionhead, and Bungie under their wing and look at them now. Rare is barely a shell of its former self, especially after they were huge on the N64. Lionhead isn't around anymore, and Bungie moved away from MS to become wholly independent, then got bought by Sony (while still remaining independent).
That's just the tip of the iceberg, as MS hasn't really done much with their IPs in the long run, since then. While Halo has seen some success, it has waned quite a lot in recent years. MS basically relies on a handful of IPs only (not saying the other two companies don't either). Phil Spencer acts like a god's gift to gaming, but he's basically selling a rental service to customers.
@Splatmaster Money, plain and simple. Activision still has to appease their shareholders and unless MS is willing to shell out more money than Sony on exclusivity, then their games will be multiplat. This ensures that as many people as possible will be playing/spending money.
I wish Sony would increase the number of save files you can put on the Cloud, as the space provided is still way above the number of files you can add to it. I think it's limited to 1,000 save files, which may seem like a lot, but I hit that number a good while ago.
We don't know the currency for the rumor, though, as $600 million USD seems like a lot for just the Tomb Raider IP (although, maybe it's the right price for it, considering it's a fairly decent-sized IP). If it's 600 million Swedish Krona, then that would be roughly $57 million USD.
It's completely out of Sony's hands, as you mentioned in the article. MLB publishes the non-Sony versions and Sony doesn't seem to want to put the game on their own service day one. If Sony says to the MLB it can't be put on Game Pass, then MLB probably says that they will revoke the license, leaving Sony without the property at all.
I imagine that the MLB was pretty adamant about being able to do whatever they wanted with the non-Sony platforms, while dangling that "license removal" clause over Sony's head.
@DigimonMonster These days? Oda Nobunaga has been depicted as a demonic entity for a long time now. Hell, I think he called himself a Demon King or something similar, too.
Also, it's Disgaea, a game that takes place in Netherworlds, with demons. It's been like this since the very first entry in 2003.
While I agree with the main portion of the game and changes made to make it run on PSP aren't fantastic, The Answer part of FES is literally nothing but grinding through dungeons, with a little bit of story to add here and there. I'd take being able to control party members in the main game, as well as the Female MC and her options, over the mindless grindfest that was The Answer.
There's always the rumored P3 Remake that might include the above. I do agree with people who talk about combining Portable and FES, though, since that's what Atlus should have done for a definitive edition, but that would have required a lot more work on their end.
@Porco Pretty sure they would have to rebuild the game from the ground up to achieve 60fps, as they don't have the code for the Gamecube version anymore. Considering it is a simple remaster, they likely didn't want to go that far in rebuilding the game
@kyleforrester87 Gotham Knights isn't a bad game at all, but it doesn't really excel at anything. It's a slightly above average game, once you get down to it.
@tabris95 I think the list is just for platformers that have a native PS5 version, which none of those have, even though you can play them on the PS5 through backwards compatibility.
I think the PS5 version of Marsupilami Hoobadventure is out everywhere, which is another excellent platformer. It plays a bit like the newer Donkey Kong Country games, and is pretty good, too.
Why do they need a showcase right this year, instead of just waiting to have one next year sometime? Sony released four brand new games this year (one was multiplat because of the MLB), and two remasters. I'd say they had a pretty good 2022.
Sure, we don't know much about 2023 yet, but they do have some third party console/timed exclusives set up for the year, like Forspoken, FF7 Rebirth, FFXVI, and I'm sure I might be forgetting a few. I believe Spider-Man 2 was also penned in for 2023, so that's a first party game.
The game is pretty good, but it's only going to be unfairly compared to the Arkham games, which it isn't (but also is a little bit). The combat is fun, but it's missing that extra bit that the Arkham (see what I mean) games had, like countering and more gadgets. I do feel like the gear system was more of a tacked on system, although that helped move things along in terms of progression. The story and characters are great, though, plus the game looks pretty good.
@Agramonte I hear a good amount of complaints from fighting games, too. The difference, as you mentioned, is that those fighting games tend to play well, while Babylon's Fail wasn't a good game.
@Ken_Kaniff They also have a new IP in the works, codenamed "Hadar." It will likely be quite a ways off, though, since they mentioned they are still working on the foundation for the new setting and haven't done anything game-related yet.
@Ken_Kaniff While it does suck that the online servers shut down, this game was out for a good five years. Killzone Shadow Fall was around for almost 9 years, too. It's not like these games just came out within the past year or two, like Babylon's Fall, which only lasted like a year. Hell, that game didn't even make it a year before Square Enix announced it was shutting down for good.
It does make sense, though. JRPGs really went from being a bigger genre in the SNES/PS1 days, to slowly becoming more niche from the PS2 onward. That was when games starts becoming a lot more involved with development. Despite absolutely loving JRPGs, they are a pretty niche genre now and there's only a few that really stand out.
@Arisen Unfortunately, these companies are likely trying to expand their fighting games to a more casual audience, which is why they include all of those other modes. That translates to more sales in the short term, and possibly a greater retention to the game as they release more stuff as DLC. Note that trying to catch that more casual audience isn't a bad thing, either, as I'm sure some people will try to spin it that way.
@ErrantRob Yeah, I was hesitant on Valkyrie Elysium, but the demo sold me on the game. Sure, I can see some of the problems with that game, but I definitely had fun with the demo enough to preorder the game.
Something I will never understand from some people who want a 30+ character roster is that they don't actually play all of those characters. Most people pick one or two characters, and will stick with them. Granted, a larger roster will give more of an opportunity in trying to pick a specific character that fits your playstyle, but no one is going to be playing/learning all 18 characters.
I never once said that the current fighting game practice of a thinner launch roster, then releasing a bunch of DLC, is fine. I don't like it either, but at least SF5 allowed you to earn them (even if they nerfed that fight money). If they do the same thing in SF6 with the ability to unlock them via just playing, then that's good on them.
@Arisen I'm pretty sure SF5 was blasted at launch was because it was a pretty barebones game. The online was lacking a lot of things, when it did work, plus there wasn't really anything to do outside of that. The single player stuff was barely anything, as there wasn't an Arcade Mode at launch, so you either played online or in Training Mode.
@Keyblade-Dan SF5 launched with 16 characters and SF4 launched (in the arcades) with 17 characters. 18 is a good number for launch, especially with all of the other stuff they are actually including in the game.
@Mylo I read the majority of the manga as it was releasing, but only recently started watching the anime. It's definitely a long one, but I personally think it's one of the better anime/manga out there, especially of the Big 3 (Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece).
@Leon_93 This is an original story that was either written or overseen by Oda, the manga's author. It does seem to take place after the timeskip, too, since the characters are in their post-timeskip outfits and the pre-timeskip outfits are a preorder bonus.
@uptownsoul Feudal Japan is one of the biggest settings for any game set in Japan, though. Hell, Koei Tecmo has the Samurai Warriors series based on it, plus Capcom had Onimusha. Ghost of Tsushima wasn't the first game in that setting and won't be the last.
Don't forget that this was likely targeted towards investors, so they know that CDPR is going to be producing a lot more Witcher games, which is their biggest IP and earns the most money.
@Lavalera The problem with the Sky games, at least the current localizations, is that they were done by XSEED. I'm not sure if Falcom ports them to newer consoles if another company can actually do localized ports of them or not. The same holds true for Cold Steel 1 and 2, as those were also done by XSEED, but those have a PS4 version worldwide.
Also, this one is coming out almost exactly two years after the initial release of D6 in Japan, which was on PS4 and Switch then. For some reason (likely money paid by Nintendo, since it was exactly a year after that PS4/5/PC versions released), they only localized the Switch version in the west in June of 2021. The Complete version released in the west came out in June 2022.
I love the Disgaea series, as it's one of my favorites and the games often lend themselves to a lot of hours of gameplay. Disgaea 6, while with some setbacks, was still a lot of fun to me. I just hope NISA doesn't pull the year timed exclusivity crap with this one in the west, since Disgaea 6 didn't run all too well on the Switch (I've still yet to play my PS4 copy of Disgaea 6).
The original game came out in 2019 and was exclusive to the PS4 at the time. I'm pretty sure no one at Sony is losing sleep over this coming to Game Pass on PC, especially since Sony has likely gotten all of the money they can out of it. Also, as mentioned in the update part of the article, the PC Game Pass version isn't the updated Director's Cut, so it's not the definitive edition of the game.
@truerbluer Sony didn't have a choice with MLB The Show, as it is a game with the MLB license. So, the MLB wanted the game on multiple systems, with a third party publishing it on non-Sony platforms. That means if they wanted to keep the MLB license, they didn't have a choice on which platforms it released on.
Yeah, the lack of the iconic voices/music from the get go definitely hurt the game a lot (a lack of budget, as I'm sure the people funding it just saw it as another cash grab licensed game), plus the fact you had to pay to play the game. Multiversus overshadowing the game didn't help any, especially since it is free to play. We will definitely see more smaller fighting games go free to play, most likely (League of Legends one announced they are).
@IonMagi Yeah, they're on such horrible terms, which is why Disgaea 6 was released on PS4 in Japan at launch, then the Complete version released on both PS4 and PS5 about one year after the Switch version released in the west...
Sometimes I feel like licenses should be issued out for a lot of things that don't otherwise have licenses. For example, there should probably be a license issued in order to use the internet, as well as have kids or even own a pet.
People need to realize that it's fine if you have some criticism of a project and offer something that is constructive towards it. However, threatening people and calling them all kinds of names isn't going to help, but the anonymity of the internet doesn't help with that.

For some reason (likely money paid by Nintendo, since it was exactly a year after that PS4/5/PC versions released), they only localized the Switch version in the west in June of 2021. The Complete version released in the west came out in June 2022.
Re: Disgaea 7 Raises Japanese-Styled Hell on PS5, PS4
I love the Disgaea series, as it's one of my favorites and the games often lend themselves to a lot of hours of gameplay. Disgaea 6, while with some setbacks, was still a lot of fun to me. I just hope NISA doesn't pull the year timed exclusivity crap with this one in the west, since Disgaea 6 didn't run all too well on the Switch (I've still yet to play my PS4 copy of Disgaea 6).
Re: Sony Had 'No Involvement' in Death Stranding Deal with PC Game Pass
The original game came out in 2019 and was exclusive to the PS4 at the time. I'm pretty sure no one at Sony is losing sleep over this coming to Game Pass on PC, especially since Sony has likely gotten all of the money they can out of it. Also, as mentioned in the update part of the article, the PC Game Pass version isn't the updated Director's Cut, so it's not the definitive edition of the game.
Re: Sony Promises 1-Hour PS Plus Trial for Rollerdrome, Offers 35 Minutes
@hoffa007 That was never officially stated by Sony and was just a rumor going around via "insiders."
Re: Microsoft Accuses Sony of Paying to Block Games from Xbox Game Pass
@truerbluer Sony didn't have a choice with MLB The Show, as it is a game with the MLB license. So, the MLB wanted the game on multiple systems, with a third party publishing it on non-Sony platforms. That means if they wanted to keep the MLB license, they didn't have a choice on which platforms it released on.
Re: Jimmy Neutron's Dad Joins the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl on PS5, PS4
Yeah, the lack of the iconic voices/music from the get go definitely hurt the game a lot (a lack of budget, as I'm sure the people funding it just saw it as another cash grab licensed game), plus the fact you had to pay to play the game. Multiversus overshadowing the game didn't help any, especially since it is free to play. We will definitely see more smaller fighting games go free to play, most likely (League of Legends one announced they are).
Re: Fans Wonder Whether NIS Just Teased Disgaea 7
@IonMagi Yeah, they're on such horrible terms, which is why Disgaea 6 was released on PS4 in Japan at launch, then the Complete version released on both PS4 and PS5 about one year after the Switch version released in the west...
Re: Bungie Dials Back Communication Due to Threats on Employees
Sometimes I feel like licenses should be issued out for a lot of things that don't otherwise have licenses. For example, there should probably be a license issued in order to use the internet, as well as have kids or even own a pet.
People need to realize that it's fine if you have some criticism of a project and offer something that is constructive towards it. However, threatening people and calling them all kinds of names isn't going to help, but the anonymity of the internet doesn't help with that.
