Re: Activision Blizzard Exec Says Last of Us HBO Proves Microsoft Acquisition Should Go Ahead

Shakybeeves

I was just considering this ongoing debacle and settled on the following conclusion. Microsoft believe they can Monopolise the market like they did for the OS/PC Market. If the Acti/Bliz deal goes through, they will likely go on an acquisition rampage, attempting to gobble up every 3rd party publisher out there. What I feel the Xbox Leadership fail to recognise is that the value of these studios is their people. Whether you're an Xbot or a Pony, you cannot deny there is an issue with the Xbox pipeline, it is sub-optimal at best. Titles that were marketed such as Perfect Dark show clear signs of trouble and key creative leads in both Playground and Arkane have left to form Indie Studios. If Microsoft can't demonstrate they can manage these acquired studios through to successful pipelines, I envisage a future where creative talent they thought they'd 'acquired' has moved on to either form their own independent studios, that Sony would then form relationships with and/or exclusive rights to their IP. The people working in these studios are not slaves, they are creative professionals with full autonomy. In short I don't believe the gaming industry is pay to win. Cases of this already exist, Deviant Games are former Activision employees having worked on COD and now have an exclusive IP deal with Sony, case in point.

Re: Game of the Year: Stephen's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2022

Shakybeeves

This from a Fromsoftware advocate (that was frustratingly disappointed in Elden Ring). Ragnarok is my game of 2022 and Horizon FW a close second, Sony are just industry leading when it comes to IP, there's no denying it. Played some great indies this year too, Mortal Shell EE, Disco Elysium, Thymesia, appreciate these didnt all release in 2022, but its been an excellent year for PS5 Players.

P.S I even enjoyed blasting through AC Unity for a fiver haha

Re: Actress Ella Balinska Anchors Massive Forspoken PS5 Showcase

Shakybeeves

Really suprised by how much I enjoyed the demo, played the whole thing and couldnt put it down. The combat is addictive and fun, whilst being a little silly too (this is absolutely the USP of the game). Its certainly a tangible graphical downgrade from the original vision shown in early trailers, which is a shame. Resolution and texture detail unsatisfyingly soft (caveated by the fact this is not the full release). The world is questionable yes, whilst fun to traverse and looks reasonably pleasing, it is very static, this is offset by the various activities you can sweep up across the map. The biggest question for me is, will this hold up over extended play, or will it feel like a certain French publishers copy and paste exercise. You didn't ask for a mini demo review but there it is

Re: Despite Scrapping PS4, Gotham Knights Is Just 30fps on PS5

Shakybeeves

Horizon Forbidden West plays in dynamic 4K at 60fps, the scope of this game looks far more reserved, sorry that doesnt wash with me at all. Lets even compare Miles Morales which seems more similarly matched in scope, offers a Performance RT mode! These guys are having a laugh not to be too vitriolic and I was somewhat interested in this game...

Re: Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Won't Have Difficulty Options, Producer Says It's 'Not an Easy Game'

Shakybeeves

I absolutely loved the demo beat the boss..the challenge is something I havent felt for a while possibly not since Sekiro or Bloodborne. The parry and jump stagger, plus combos (e.g. square, R1+square, R2 Triangle) make the combat incredibly addictive and satisfying. Overcoming that boss was one of the greatest victories I've experienced. I was really dissappointed with Elden Rings commercial appeal leanings and never fell for Nioh, something about the aesthetic and combat system never grabbed me, whereas Wo Long...env and combat make it a day 1 for me and pick up that demo reward plus Ronin to follow in 2024!

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Make of Microsoft and Sony's Call of Duty Quarrel?

Shakybeeves

Lets be honest this is pure BS and I'm glad Sony are at least causing some fuss over it. Everyone keeps saying, 'well Sony have been doing this for years', its comparing apples and oranges! If this deal goes through, MS will have purchased two monolithic publishers, with multiple IP's that have existed as multi-platform franchises for decades. Sony have never purchased a publisher, only singular studios, generally with prior longstanding relationships.

Re: Soapbox: I Tried So Hard to Like Elden Ring, But I Just Couldn’t Do It

Shakybeeves

I cannot express enough how in sync our views are, I expressed the same almost word for word in an 'Elden Ring was a Dissappointment' video.

I have consumed every dark rpg Fromsoftware game they've ever made in the last 7 years, Bloodborne being the catalyst. And Elden Ring is the first time its fallen flat. I wont articulate any further as you've pretty much captured my thoughts on the game.

Re: UK Sales Charts: The Quarry PS5, PS4 Physical Sales Run Away with 84% Share

Shakybeeves

What it shows is GP subbers will be less and less prepared to make a physical game purchase. But I think we need to see more data on that trend to confirm my thinking. Callisto Protocol as an example or Resi 4 remake theres no reason either of these titles shouldnt sell well on both xbox and PS so if again Playstation steals 80% of game sales my point stands and 3rd party publishers will be far less inclined to release on GP day 1, which I think was already exemplified in their showcase.

Re: UK Sales Charts: 92% of Sniper Elite 5 Sales Are on PS5, PS4

Shakybeeves

See I think you're failing to report on this holistically, what this actually shows imo, is not a market shift towards consuming games via subscription. Instead this exemplifies a clear split between strategy, demonstrating that those in the Xbox eco system are arguably going to stop purchasing games, what this does to the industry in the long term is questionable. But heres the important part I feel you missed; game sales of new releases are selling strongly on Playstations hardware, there is no change to buying behaviours here whatsoever. Therefore theres a clear arms race beginning; will developers see real lucrative benefits by lumping their game into GP day 1 or will a developer see more profit by selling the traditional way via PS hardware. Without seeing the intricacies of GP's payouts we can only hazard a guess. However if I was to place a bet I'd say more income would be netted on traditional software sales. Therefore it can go one of two ways imo; both strategies will exist in the future, as selling via both revenue streams day 1 is a win win for devs/publishers or less 3rd party games will release day 1 on GP, opting for a futher income boost at a later date post-release when traditional games sales have slowed down, again win win for devs/publishers. One of these is probably the future I envisage.

Re: Rumour: PS5 Exclusive Returnal Likely Heading to PC Soon

Shakybeeves

Perfect game to hit PC sooner, I actually think the PC crowd will give it the rightful love it deserves. I platinumed it and the experience will stay with me forever, its just one of those games. Although haptics and audio on PS5 were transformative, so not sure how that will transfer if playing mouse/keyboard.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Elden Ring?

Shakybeeves

I give it a 9, as it hasnt got into my blood, like bloodborne did...YET. And it is a 9 for the dissappointing graphics and performance, the art design is constantly a 10, I am in awe at the world...however I get pulled out of the immersion with weird screen artefacts when its foggy and framerate stutter when I'm just turning the camera whilst walking to take in the incredible view. All this being said I am a years long Fromsoft nut and I honestly hope they've changed open world game design principles for the rest of the industry, for the better, forever. The exploration is astounding. I will struggle to go back to more linear Fromsoft games, I'm looking at you Sekiro

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Shakybeeves

@buckp25 brave comment dude and I truly believe you can still play these games, try a magic build and spam from afar, aswell as calling in co-op. You will absolutely fine, plenty of folks in the community would love to co-op into your game to help you with bosses. And arguably I think you could solo some with a high power magic build, just stay at distance and keep spamming those spells. It takes me a LONG time to learn patterns of bosses at times too!

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

Shakybeeves

Inclusion is a curse when it comes to Art! (To be clear, inclusivity in societal terms is generally a good thing). This is how the creator wants his games/art form to be. And I TOTALLY agree with the statement, ' I want people to enjoy the satisfaction of overcoming a difficult challenge'. I truly believe there are life lessons in these games, that anyone can learn, should they have the persistence or tenacity needed. Tenacity being, there are already a wealth of difficulty options in this game! Just look for them and build accordingly. I dont understand the pleas for easy mode, these games would have never have achieved the cult status they have without difficulty, its in the blood. As an example I just beat Ornstein & Smough no hit/no damage for my channel...I never thought I would be able to do this. But all I had to do was look, combine the right gear and be persistent. This comment is not meant to be elitist, I am however passionate about the creators vision.

Re: Hands On: Cyberpunk 2077's PS5 Version Actually Feels Like a Finished Game

Shakybeeves

I'm loving it, had such fun last night..AI is noticeably improved during combat too and the visuals are stunning now on PS5. Comparing to last year it really is a huge uplift and the game I expected at launch. Can we take a minute to realise and recognise the blood, sweat and tears the devs have poured into this game, it now shows in all its glory...the sheer depth of side missions and world detail is astounding. We so flippantly sh!+can this game due to greedy investor and leadership decisions to push out last gen crap for profit...can we now just focus on the game.

Re: Battlefield 2042 Could Potentially Go Free-to-Play After Poor Performance on PS5, PS4

Shakybeeves

I like the game (and I've played Battlefield extensively since BFBC2).

They simply need to add; infantry focussed maps, infantry focussed modes (just copy and paste BF4's playlists), Server Browser, Voice Chat, More Guns and stop threatening the playerbase that 64 player modes are temporary...why are they temporary? I havent touched 128 player mode once and 64 player Conquest really does give you some of the old skool Battlefield feels at times..
Like when I C5'd a couple of camping snipers from their nest the other night.
And on the topic of sniping (which I'm playing permanently), sniping is beautiful in this game 👌

Re: Poll: How Long Should Games Be?

Shakybeeves

It totally depends on the game, I wouldnt want Elden Ring to only last 20hrs as an example, that would be a dissappointment to me. Wheras an Uncharted game would be fine 20 - 30hrs...the Poll is slightly silly tbh.
