Re: More PS5 Stock This Year, As Sony Enjoys Biggest Ever Launch

SwitchVogel

@Arugula I mean, why should they care? As far as they're concerned, all their stock is getting bought, and it's not like the few people trying to 'boycott' a place like Walmart over this will have any meaningful effect on their bottom line.

To be clear, I'm not saying I support the process of scalping, but I don't think we can really blame retailers for not caring about distribution. It's not their problem.

Re: UK Scalper Group Claims It's Snagged 3,500 PS5 Consoles

SwitchVogel

@KippDynamite Agreed, this highlights everything wrong with 'laissez faire' capitalism. People will always find new ways to fleece others for a quick buck, unless there are rules to prevent it.

That being said, I think it's hard to make a legitimate legal argument against these people, as a PS5 is the epitome of a luxury item. It's morally questionable that these people exploit our desire to own a PS5, but the worst thing they're doing is inconveniencing us. It's extremely irritating--I'd love to have a PS5 now if one were available--but I don't really see this sort of thing ever changing.

Re: Sony Believes PS5 Game Pricing Is Fair, Denies It Considered Charging More

SwitchVogel

@naruball Thus the most passionate consumers. There are still millions with the disposable income and the insatiable desire to always buy games at launch, and that's the demographic being targeted by this price hike.

I get why they're doing it, but it seems to me like they're taking advantage of their most loyal fans a bit. They realize that plenty of people will buy a game without really caring what's on the price tag, so they upped the number because they can.

I guess it's important to remember that they're a company whose primary aim is to make as much money as laws and ethics permit. They may go to great lengths for PR that claims they're on 'our side', but the reality is that they exist solely to convince us to buy things from them.

Re: Sony Thinks PS5's Storage Space 'Should Be Fine'

SwitchVogel

He says it's not an issue, but somehow my 2TB drive isn't enough space for even my PS4 library. 665GB is nowhere near enough for my PS4, no way my PS5 library won't fill up even faster.

I don't much care about the stock drive being kind of small, the issue I have is that we don't have an option for expanding it in any way. Sure, I can store my PS4 games in an external, but will I just have to live with constantly redownloading PS5 games this gen? I hope they get that sorted soon.

Re: Sony Believes PS5 Game Pricing Is Fair, Denies It Considered Charging More

SwitchVogel

I think their long term pricing strategy is more important. Nintendo games are notorious for taking years to get paltry discounts, if any. This means people are more inclined to buy the game at full price, as it's all but guaranteed that it could be quite a while before the game even drops by a quarter of its price.

Then there's Sony. Sure their games are launching at 70$ apiece, but their long-term strategy has shown me that I only need to wait a year at most before I can see discounts of 50% or more. Given this, why would any but the most passionate consumers buy for full price at launch?

Re: PlayStation Boss Can't Comment on God of War Ragnarok Being a PS5 Exclusive

SwitchVogel

I think he's really regretting that 'we believe in generations' comment from a while back. Now they either stick to that and turn down any money they could make from a 100m+ install base for the next few years, or they go back on that and undermine trust in their upper management.

Having just bought Miles Morales for my PS4, I'm totally fine with cross-gen games being a thing for the foreseeable future, but then that's a problem for Sony. If they don't prod players like myself to jump to PS5, we won't. At the very least, they could make it easier by having stock actually available 😂

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your First Impressions of PS5?

SwitchVogel

Ha, I'll let you know my thoughts when the supply finally catches up! I'm in no rush, I'd just use it as a Super PS4 for the foreseeable future anyway, but I'm hoping I can get one early next year. Kinda disappointed in Sony regarding the stock issues, but then this is what EVERY console launch is like...

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered Seemingly Removes Reference to Avengers Game

SwitchVogel

Seeing this just makes me wonder why Marvel never pushed for a shared universe with its IP in games. I'd think having another continuity separate from the films, but common between the games could lead to some awesome moments if they set it up right. I mean, Spider-Man was obviously a stellar game on its own, and I have no doubt they could do other heroes just as well if they gave each their proper attention, so why not try to get something off the ground? Why have Spider-Man, Iron Man VR, and Avengers all release within a couple years of each other and have ZERO relation?

Re: PS5 Could Add 1440p Support if There Is Enough Demand

SwitchVogel

Doesn't downscaling from a higher resolution look better/no different, tho? I'm not much of a nut for this kind of stuff, but I always thought the rule of thumb is that high resolution images scaling down for lower res displays looks no different than if the lower res was displayed natively. I guess I don't understand why would you want 1440p specifically, if 4k is already being offered?

Re: Ruined King: A League of Legends Story Brings Runeterra to PS5, PS4 in 2021

SwitchVogel

@nessisonett Haha same, the LoL community is a disease. I played for just a few hours and the abuse was more than enough to turn me off from ever going back to League. Those people take that game way too seriously.

This looks interesting tho, I like the idea behind this. LoL has such a rich lore, it'd be a waste to keep it limited to just that moba. Same with Overwatch, I really hope 2 has a great campaign.

Re: Sony Admits Not Everyone Will Be Able to Get PS5 At Launch

SwitchVogel

Depending on your dedication, you could still get one on launch day if you show up early. When the Switch came out, I just went to Target the minute it opened and got one. Not all retailer stock is reserved for pre orders, they specifically keep a number of units just for walk ins.

Re: PS5 Consoles Are with Media and Influencers Right Now

SwitchVogel

I'm excited, though seeing tweets like this just reminds me how fleeting the hype is. Not too long ago, people were getting all jealous like this when the first PS4 units were going out, and now it's a relatively mundane thing that you can buy (for reasonably cheap) whenever you want.

Re: Konami Says Legendary PS4 Demo P.T. Won't Play on PS5

SwitchVogel

I really don't get why they don't embrace the response to PT. I get that there's bad blood between them and Kojima, but even if they put this back on the store for twenty bucks, people would get it in droves. They literally wouldn't have to do anything further with development, they could just put it up as is.

Re: Why Shadwen Won't Be Backwards Compatible on PS5

SwitchVogel

I mean, I doubt this'll upset even the six people that actually got this game. Even so, I'd think you'd want to patch your game just for the optics and preserving your reputation. Would you really want to be among the ten games that couldn't make it to PS5 out of thousands? Hell, even Life of Tiger made it!

Re: Borderlands 3's Next-Gen Upgrade Levels Up for PS5 Launch

SwitchVogel

Glad to see this, I'll probably get the season pass to play through on PS5 now that they've wrapped the DLC. I just got the plat last week, and I honestly don't get where the haters are coming from saying that 2 is hugely superior. IMO, this is the best Borderlands game ever made.

Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch

SwitchVogel

@naruball That's true, but they implied it by vaguely saying that there are "blockers" which keep them from being able to do it. Perhaps it's not an outright lie, but they're trying to spin it to seem like they want to give the upgrade to current owners but can't for reasons beyond their control. That glitch last week where they accidentally gave it to all current owners proved that they can in fact do it, they just won't. Nothing wrong with that decision, I'll add, but there is something wrong with being dishonest about it.

Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch

SwitchVogel

@JapaneseSonic Remedy is a bit of a different case, because they outright lied and tried to make it seem like there's some phantom technical problem keeping them from giving everybody the upgrade. Here, though, I'd agree with you.

$20 for the remaster isn't bad considering that the original just came out a couple years ago. In some ways I can see why people are upset, but is it really worth getting worked up over such a comparitively small amount? It'd be one thing if they were trying to hawk this standalone for the new $70 base rate, but I find $20 to sound reasonable for what's being offered here.

Re: Borderlands 3 Getting Free PS5 Upgrade, Four Player Split-Screen

SwitchVogel

@KidBoruto I wouldn't count on it, they're probably just waiting for the bad press to blow over. I haven't gotten Control yet, but 505/Remedy's behavior here has guaranteed that when I do, it'll be a boxed, used copy so they don't see a cent. I understand that we're not entitled to an upgrade like that, but it doesn't sit well with me that they hung their longtime fans out to dry like that.

Re: Soapbox: Games As a Service Should Be Embraced, Not Misunderstood

SwitchVogel

The main issue I have with this article is that there needs to be a clear line drawn between GaaS and just games with DLC. Nobody would put Uncharted 4 in the same group as Destiny 2 in this regard, because those are two very different types of games. The former was a full game that later received some post launch DLC, while the latter was and always has been designed as an 'endless' game with a constant treadmill of new content.

I agree that GaaS aren't inherently a bad thing, but I would also say that the GaaS model is much more prone to exploitation and negative outcomes than the traditional model. When a game exists in a constant state of flux, nothing is set in stone and it becomes a lot more susceptible to shifting industry trends, changes in development staff, new monetization models, etc. Case in point, Bungie is straight up removing almost all the year one content from Destiny 2, which effectively makes it a completely different game now than the one I played a couple years ago, whether I like it or not. The game I played back then doesn't exist anymore, because they've continuously tweaked and modified it until it became something else.
