Re: PS5 Games Could Cost $10 More Than PS4

SwitchVogel

It's been literal years since I last bought a full price game. I don't care how high they price retail games next gen, I know all I have to do is wait six months and they'll all be on sale for less than $30.

Re: Xbox Boss Believes Microsoft Is in Very Good Position, Will Be Able to Demonstrate Hardware Advantages Over PS5

SwitchVogel

He's definitely right about hardware advantages, but those advantages do them no good if they don't have a lineup of games worth playing. From a software standpoint, Microsoft didn't even show up this last gen compared to Sony churning out the high quality exclusives one after another. I'm hoping that their recent run of studio acquisitions leads to a surge on this front, but I have to admit that my expectations for Microsoft are quite low considering their last few years.

Re: Marvel's Avengers Gets Free PS5 Upgrade, Offers 60FPS Dynamic 4K Mode

SwitchVogel

@rjejr That's a good point. Avengers is only relevant in modern pop culture because of the film series, and though the MCU isn't stopping anytime soon, it's safe to say the Avengers team as we've known it is over.

I think the most worrying thing about this game is the fact that very few seem to care about it. The last Avengers film is literally the highest grossing movie ever, yet the excitement around a game based on that same IP is almost non-existent. Something just doesn't add up here.

Re: The Hardest PS4 Platinum Trophies

SwitchVogel

I would nominate Rayman Legends for this list. You have to play the daily missions and score reasonably high on the global leaderboards for something like three or four months to unlock a trophy, and the (unpatched) game has a glitch where sometimes people go through all that only to get NOTHING at the end. I got my platinum, but good Lord I'm never touching that game again.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Agree with PS5's Approach to Generations?

SwitchVogel

I'd say the idea of generations is one of the main features that separates consoles from PC. When you buy a console, you do so with the understanding that basically all games released for that platform (even if there's a 'pro' variant a few years later) will run on that launch console until it reaches the end of life. Then, when the company announces the next gen, you buy the new one with the same expectation.

This in mind, I don't really get what Xbox is going for here. What's the point of investing millions into R&D on a shiny new box, if you don't intend on using any of its distinct advantages in a meaningful way? I'm not interested in a Series X, but even if I were, what would be the point of me buying one in November when I could buy a One for cheaper and play the exact same games, just at lower performance?

Yeah, graphics and performance are lovely, but I'm more interested in the hardware allowing for more ambitious and better designed games than prettier ones. Same reason I never bought a PS4 Pro; the upgrades are notable, but not enough for me to shell out another few hundred bucks to play the same games I already can.

Re: Talking Point: Why Are Fall's Biggest Blockbusters Flopping?

SwitchVogel

For me, it's the sales that are doing it. With a few notable exceptions, I no longer buy games on day one for full price. If I wait a few months, not only does the price come down, but the game gets patched and runs better. Couple this with the fact that I can scoop up hundreds of dollars of games for a fraction of the price if I just wait for certain ones to go on sale, and I think we have a clear reason for this trend. I have more than enough games to occupy my time right now, and by the time I'm through with those, the current crop of games will all be cheaper/better. Why buy them now?

Re: Podcast: Episode 1 - The Pilot

SwitchVogel

@readyletsgo I'm not entirely sure. My understanding is that there wasn't enough interest, and it ultimately wasn't worth the time investment required. That being said, I'd be interested in giving it a go if there was demand.

Re: Mighty No. 9 Shelved Until Spring 2016 on PS4, PS3, and Vita

SwitchVogel

This is hilariously bad, Inafune literally promised that there wouldn't be another delay.

I get the feeling that there's more than just "network issues" holding this up, because honestly, who would buy this for its multiplayer? I don't see why they couldn't just release single player and put out multiplayer in a later patch, unless there's something wrong with single player.

Re: Capcom Hopes Street Fighter V Will Attract a New Audience

SwitchVogel

@DrJoeystein I agree, I actually found SFIV to be nearly unplayable. Sure, I could occasionally win by button mashing or using basic combos, but getting the timing down and establishing muscle memory to do more complex moves was too much. Simply put, it just wasn't worth the time to me.

Re: Push Scare: Why the Petrifying P.T. Is the Perfect Multiplayer Experience on PS4

SwitchVogel

I played this a couple weeks ago in my room and managed to convince about half my hall to watch the whole thing. We had about 20+ guys all crammed into one room, and they were all so enamored that the only sound came from the game. When I got to the final loop and Lisa inevitably got me, there wasn't a single person in that room that didn't scream or jump out of their chair. I can definitely confirm that this makes for an excellent multiplayer experience, it's still just as scary!
