Re: PS5 'Slim' Is Now Officially for Sale in the US

@GamingFan4Lyf Whether or not it might be cheaper to get the upgrade in some other way is completely irrelevant to whether or not it's a change in specs. It's absolutely an "upgrade in terms of technical specifications", period. So the article as written is incorrect.

And no one is suggesting someone should replace their console because they're chasing a bit more storage.

Sorry, but it's not so straightforward as to say it ISN'T an upgrade. The internal storage has been bumped up to 1TB from 825GB. And when you consider that the original model leaves you with 667GB available, that 1TB drive means a whopping 26% increase in available capacity. Hard not to call that an upgrade.

Re: Is It Surprising that PlayStation Fans Don't Really Care About the PS5 Slim?

darthvirgin

@ShogunRok Sorry, but I don't see this specific point articulated in what's written, and I'm arguing that it's the biggest and most obvious point to make. You bring up the hypothesis that since you're essentially surveying people in "the hardcore space", you'd expect interest to be high, but you don't point out that if you're in the "hardcore space" and regularly visiting a site that reports on PS5 news (there isn't much PS4 news to be spoken of anymore), then you probably already own a PS5 and wouldn't be giving a new model any consideration. Also worth pointing out that plenty of the "hardcore" fans are inclined to feel that the "OG" version (absent a Pro model) is the best one to own and that "slim" revisions would be downgrades.

Thinking about it another way, that survey would have been a lot more insightful if it had first included the question "Do you already own a PS5?" (or at leaast included it as a response option as to why you're not interested in the Slim), so that you could make a lot more inferences about how many respondents are even in the market at all and WHY.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West's Latest Update on PS5 Prepares for Launch of Burning Shores

darthvirgin

@Reeneman Surprised that there's been zero clarification from Guerrilla (or push from media outlets to get this question answered) about this. Presumably the features that make Burning Shores a PS5 exclusive should trickle down to the base game, right? It's not like the clouds are going to suddenly start being generated with a different method depending on which quest you have selected in the menu....

Re: Horizon Forbidden West's PS5 Exclusive DLC Has Another Staggering Settlement to Explore

@StylesT Similar experience, and I wholeheartedly agree. Force myself to push through for 30 hours and finally decided it was not a good use of my time because I only wanted to finish the story, but found all of the story and cinematics so bad that I couldn't watch them. But be careful, you're not allowed to publicly state you think this franchise is overrated. The woefully bad characters, dialogue, voice acting, storytelling, and mission design are things we're supposed to be quiet about.

Re: Resident Evil 4 Remake on PS4 Is Why Cross-Gen Needs to End

I know the general point is the same, saying it's "OVER ten years old" is bad form. Either you don't care about accuracy or you've confused what year we're in. The console launched in fall of 2013, so it's literally not ten years old yet. It's not even 9.5 years old. Just a weird choice to somehow round that UP beyond 10.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077's Highly Anticipated 1.7 Update Could Be Coming Soon, or So Fans Think

darthvirgin

I think it's far more likely they would bring these enhancements alongside the DLC, so unless they're also releasing the DLC suddenly, these significant enhancements aren't happening immediately.

Keep in mind they pointed out that new feature development etc is only being done on current-gen+PC, just like how the DLC is not coming to previous-gen. I'm sure dropping that old hardware is enabling these bigger changes (eg. much better AI+systems for Police thanks to more CPU). It would make a lot more sense to drop these big changes alongside the DLC to maximize hype.

Re: Where to Watch The Last of Us TV Show

Canada has Crave, which has like 90% overlap with the HBO Max catalogue, including brand new shows like TLOU. You might want to consult the wikipedia page for HBO/HBO Max if you care to actually make a proper list.
