Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Baldur's Gate 3?

kyleforrester87

It's an obvious 10, as much as any other 10 is. I really am enjoying it. It's slower than I expected, compared to the Divinity games.. everything is just a bit more plodding. Not a problem but I can play for a long time and not do very much. I’ve been reading most of the books I come across, I don’t normally bother with that but it’s great.

Also, given enemies don't respawn, it has that same weird feeling of ultimately traipsing across a baron map with nothing but slaughtered corpses at your feet. It's like, the areas themselves start “alive” and you slowly kill them one way or another (either by actually killing the things populating them, or just dealing with the quests) and then it's just a lot of dead space left in your wake… just feels a bit strange. Obviously you can't grind for XP as there is a finite amount available in each area, so in that respect you can sort of feel like you're being funneled along. It's not a big deal, just some thoughts as I play.

Honestly, my main take so far is that DOS3 is going to be amazing.

I wrote this comment way to quick so hopefully it makes sense.

Edit: I don’t like L2 not being on a radial for character select, though. That’s really rubbish.

Edit edit: oh and the music, while very good isn’t quite as good as I was expecting. Divinity OS1 and 2 had awesome soundtracks. BG3 is just a bit lower key, like the gameplay, I suppose. Maybe the best is yet to come. Liking the doooownnn byyy the rivvveeerrr bit though. Coz that’s where I make love to Shadowheart.

I’m playing Baldurs Gate 3, had a bit of a bumpy start, the D&D rules are throwing me off a bit versus Divinity which just made more sense to me out the gate. Managed to spend a bit of time on it now though and beginning to really enjoy it.

I do feel Larian have misrepresented the game a bit though, and no one seems to be calling them out for it… I’ve tried to have sex with literally every animal I’ve come across and it’s just not working??

Re: Diablo 4 Yearly Expansions Seemingly Confirmed by Blizzard

@Shepherd_Tallon Tbh we played the same game, D3, but I have played it for hundreds of hours and the only time I fell asleep playing it was when I couldn't put it down to go to bed... lol. Weird really as I can see why some people didn't get along with it, I just enjoyed the gameplay, music, world and generally find it super theraputic. The only thing that really worries me about D4 is the level scaling. Oh, and maintaining an active PS+ sub to play it. The online nature of it doesn't bother me but having pay a months sub for the odd time I might want to play for a few hours... nah that's not great.

Diablo outrage is nothing new. D2 fans kicked off back in 2001 when the expansion came out, making higher tier difficulty levels harder which effectively gated those without the expansion from the necessary loot to play the game effectively, basically forcing them to buy it. Now it's remembered as a classic. Moral? I dunno. People are chumps or something probably.

Re: No, Baldur's Gate 3 Doesn't Have a New PS5 Release Date

kyleforrester87

Calm down with the BG3 articles, I've been looking forward to it for ages but the hyping up is a little OTT now, and almost putting me off getting it from day one!

I wouldn't mind generally spoiler free "What I wish I knew from the beginning after 100 hours" type articles and some tips on a starting character nearer release, though.

Edit: Well, I can see that is well underway... lol.

@Northern_munkey the noise I am hearing about D4 was no different to D3 really, and I enjoyed that game a lot, it’s my most played console game ever. That said, it’s only going to improve so I am happy sitting on it for a few more months. Really looking forward to playing it though, I am sure I will love it. The beta was great.

@theheadofabroom it’s a trap sequels always tend to fall into unfortunately, not everything that gets added is bad per se but while introducing new features it can’t help but strip out some of the purity the original had in the process. I guess you just have to take the later games as you find them - eventually when things get so bad, it’s reboot time!

This week I set out to slay hordes of demons and take down the Lord of Terror himself in Diablo….. 1?!

A bit of a bucket list game for me this, I grew up hearing talk of how good it was. I played the PS1 version on my RG35XX and I have to say it really holds up much better than I thought it would. I could hardly put it down once I started to play and got through it in 4 irresponsible sessions. Truly, at least half of that is down to the utterly phenomenal soundtrack.

It was also really cool coming face to face with characters like Lazarus that I have heard so much about from Diablo 3, and being properly introduced to the likes of Cain and Adria.

It’s tough, too - the final couple of levels (the game is essentially a 16 level dungeon) do not play nice.

Watch your eyes on the corners of these pixels…

I’ve moved back to Diablo 2 on PS5 now, with some new found enthusiasm and perspective, and I have also started Suikoden on the RG35XX… another bucket list game for me. So far so good. Soundtrack could use more electric guitar and crying babies, though.

Re: It's Party Time! Steam Groans Under the Strain of Baldur's Gate 3's PC Launch

kyleforrester87

@somnambulance I’ve been wanting this game for a long time, it looks like I might skip the launch myself now as it’s landing during a busy period for me so I might have to wait a week or so. Forget the FOMO, just get it when you are ready and play through it at an enjoyable pace. No reason to be burnt out on anything, these things are supposed to be fun.

Edit: also I meant pre-release build in my last comment, doh!

Re: Killing Treasure Goblins Is About to Become a Lot More Rewarding in Diablo 4

kyleforrester87

@Cordyceps as @HonestHick said, the game wasn’t close to broken at launch. It’s a live service game, it will live or die through continued support and tweaking such as this. It won’t all be home runs, and naysayers like yourself will always be there on the sideline to scoff and say “I told you so” (btw everyone loves I told you so, so definitely do that a lot) every time it stumbles, but providing the general trajectory is upwards from launch reasonable people will be satisfied.

@Lumic Well done! I am just on the second mission, I actually haven't played it for a while purely because I didn't want to leave TOTK half finished (like I did with BOTW). Thinking about Aliens nearly every day though, just prioritising. Can't wait to get back to it.

If I had to give one negative I have found the human enemies in the second mission to be a bit meh.

I think there has been an update, I found the marines to be a bit too talky (a common complaint) - did they address that at all?
