Re: Xbox Boss Admits Microsoft Can't 'Outconsole' PS5

kyleforrester87

Good interview. Starfield is pretty interesting and the prospect of Evil Within 3 could get me on Xbox. Unfortunately I just don’t like the direction they are going in, with Gamepass etc. although I understand why.

That said, Sony first party exclusives generally don’t excite me either. Very bored with them all, actually.

Thank god for third parties and Nintendo.

Re: Poll: Rate the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters

kyleforrester87

I haven’t managed to play any of them yet, and as I haven’t given half of them a fair shake I couldn’t really order them. I expect 4 and 6 would be at the top though, and I have played those.

I don’t really have any nostalgia for either of them, although funny enough I look back fondly at playing the re-releases on PS1 which I think is now longer than the time between then, and the original releases!

Through 2023 optics I guess I’d give FF6 a 7/10, and FF4 a 6/10.

That’s a nice rating system thing you got going on, too. First time I have actually engaged with it. Just gave Dragon Age Inquisition a 1 hahahaha.

Re: Soapbox: I No Longer Think Subscriptions Like PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are the Future of Gaming

kyleforrester87

Just speaking personally, I need to pay for a game these days to make the necessary commitment to actually get through it. I’d frankly rather spend £40-£70 and use that as motivation to get all the value I can out of it. I’m really not bothered about the “ownership” argument, though.

I don’t think there isn’t a market for it, it’s just not really for me. I could probably change my mindset if cloud gaming really took off.

Re: A Future Dominated By Service Games Would Be 'Boring', Says PlayStation's Shuhei Yoshida

People worry about this stuff too much, where there is a market people will cater for it.

The next big thing obviously attracts attention and a lot of money, but there always seems to be something coming out to fill gaps in the market and the bad stuff tends to fall to the wayside before long, at least finding its place even if it doesn't disappear completely.

If you're tied to one particular console manufacturer, or developer or something you might end up disappointed but if you don't have that unconditional loyalty I don't think anyone really needs to worry about "the rise" of live service, streaming, or whatever.

@Impossibilium yes I agree, I think modern features like auto save will go a long way toward helping you enjoy old games that you’re playing without nostalgia.

I think the last old game I played for the first time recently that I really enjoyed was Max Payne 1. I thought it really held up! As for Silence of the Lambs, I agree. I came to it late and never understood the hype - sort of left me feeling stupid, like what did I miss!

@Niktaw yes, I expect you are right. In a way, it being ahead of its time works against it when playing for the first time now. What I mean is, it clearly broke boundaries at release and you’d have appreciated that when playing at launch, while accepting some of its faults as par for the course for the time. But when playing today without any nostalgia to help smooth things out, it’s perhaps easier to take some of what it does very well for granted, while focusing on the negatives a little more.

Admittedly I came to 6 late, and although I like certain aspects a lot (particularly the music, and the earlier parts of the game) I struggle to enjoy it once you get to the non-linear segment. The set up was cool but given time had passed, it always felt weird how you just joined back up with your pals after a couple of lines of dialogue… somehow I wanted them to go deeper into what everyone had been doing during that period.

Also, playing it as something of a novelty these days, the lack of direction in this part of the game demotivates me.

Overall I struggle to see why people rate this as the best game in the franchise, but I am sure they are on to something. I guess you just had to be there. No contest between this and 7/9 for me, though!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 473

kyleforrester87

@Ralizah I loved XBC2 and despite best intentions couldn’t manage a second play through. I have 180 hours in XBC3, really enjoyed it but it’ll be a long, long time before I am ready for another run. Pretty content chipping away at as much content as I can on the same save file for now.

Thinking on it, some of the RNG and weird gating in XBC2 is what puts me off playing it again these days, XBC3 doesn’t have that silliness so perhaps I’d be more inclined.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 473

55 hours into the excellent Octopath Traveler 2, working on getting toward the end of everyone’s stories. @Ralizah got me thinking about XBC3 again, too, so I have been dipping my toe back into that. So many loose ends to tie up. I am thinking about getting the expansion just to tool around with the challenge battlers, even though I am unlikely to play the upcoming story content any time soon.

Thinking about loading up BOTW just to get used to the controls again, too.

@zupertramp I don’t think he’s a genius, I’d reserve that title for someone like Stephen Hawking personally. Google suggests an IQ of around 150 for Elon, which is above average if true. Either way, few people would actually be capable of turning a small fortune into what he has. Not least because most people enjoy a work/life balance and their bed to sleep in!

Re: PlayStation Is No Longer Officially Verified on Twitter

kyleforrester87

@nessisonett if he was a qualified rocket scientist (or whatever you need to build rockets!) he wouldn’t be doing what he does now at the end of the day. People like him just surround themselves with the right team, which might sound like nothing but it’s not as easy as it looks or everyone would be at it!

Re: PlayStation Is No Longer Officially Verified on Twitter

kyleforrester87

@nessisonett making bad decisions doesn’t equate to being stupid. I expect he could take one look at your life and come to the same conclusion. Of course, he would be wrong if he did, as you are not. Unfortunately being so matter of fact about it shuts down reasonable discussion and just encourages people to dig in. I dealt with some people I might consider calling stupid today - Elon Musk types, they were not!

Although, I get your point, as I might also professionally interact with high earners, doctors and so on, and have my mind blown by some of the stupid stuff they say and do. I guess they are just applying their intelligence elsewhere!

I hope we can agree that Elon Musk has just done some stupid things.
