Any word on compatibility with PSVR games? The light motion tracking will be gone, so will I need to keep the PSVR to play those games? I have over 100 PSVR games. Would like them to be useable.
Loved the game, but could never get past the third Biome boss. Tried sooooo many times. I'll give it another go sometime, but I've got other games for now.
Not a LoL player or fan, but season 1 of Arcane was awesome. All 9 episodes are available now and the story, characters, voice acting, animation...I am beyond impressed. I'm just pissed that there are only 9 episodes! That cliffhanger ending!
There is soooo much content with this game. I haven't played since LVL 55 was the cap, but I maxed out all the skills and jobs available at the time. There's just soooooo much. I can't even imagine trying to jump back in now.
I received a promotional $30 from a CC and saw Cyberpunk on sale for $33.95, so I went ahead and bought the game. So I'll be playing that once college football is done.
After "losing" Ninja Theory, this became a necessity. Happy to see that Insomniac, Housemarque and Bluepoint are now Sony first party studios. I wonder if Sony will make a move for Ready at Dawn or Sumo Digital.
@ShogunRok @Tchunga
I would offer that there could have been more options, such as "I bought Dishonored and Dishonored 2, but have not played them yet." It may only get one vote, but that would be what I voted.
As an owner of a PS5, I concur with this. AstroBot is great, but there isn't enough to warrant an upgrade. The reduced load times, extra pixels, Dual Sense support...all cool, but not a next gen requirement.
@anoyonmus The fact that Flight Simulator is being touted as an Xbox release speaks volumes to the Xbox lineup. Flight Sim has been around for ages, and it's not a game. It's what it says it is...a flight sim. It's the same sim I played 30+ years ago, with better graphics.
Halo is a mess currently. Release it, and we're looking at another CyberPunk. Fitting, considering the Xbox relation.
The Series X/S released almost a year ago. Literally NOTHING that justifies a purchase.
I touched on this exact thing in another comment thread. I enjoyed the show simply because it was something rather than the big nothing, but the First party showing was pathetic.
Outside of "Insom" (this will always get the air quotes...it's Insomniac. Show the respect.), there wasn't much on offer. The GoW update was nice, but Gran Turismo? Sony needs to seriously address the GT timeframe. Microsoft can pump out variations of Forza yearly, and they are great games, but Polyphony Digital can only put out one GT each generation...and only if they get the right organ/chorus? It's a bit ridiculous now.
And where were the rest? I hate CGI trailers as much as the rest of us. Microsoft's E3 event was all CGI trailers except for Flight Simulator and Forza. We all know that a CGI trailer means 2-3 years out. But at least we know what's in the pipeline. What we can look forward to. Xbox fans have a lot of content coming in 2023. Sony is keeping us in the dark for 2022...and 2022 is less than 4 months away.
Having gone through the M&A process where the company I worked for was having it's assets obtained (not purchased, assets obtained), the process is very time consuming. I work with contracts, and we had to have each and every contract that was in place fully vetted. The Due Diligence required for a M&A is exhausting.
@Milktastrophe It's more than just a "typo" when you have a marketing department's graphics team create an image incorporating the studio's logo and make room for a snip taken from their most recent PlayStation exclusive. Deliberate work went into this...
I appreciate the Push Square perspective. PlayStation based site, but not afraid to offer opinions counter to brand affiliation. It beats the hell out of the lapdogs that are pure brand zombies.
Sony has failed in their communication strategy over the past year+, and this showcase did not change that. Of Sony's 13 studios, we learned that "Insom" are Gods among mortals, Santa Monica gave us gameplay of Ragnarok (Gameplay automatically beats any other company's CGI 2023 trailers), and we learned that Polyphony Digital needs to do better (The Forza brand releases yearly and has surpassed the Gran Turismo brand...with and without organs and orchestras).
Honestly? I expect disappointment. How can you have late announcements of delayed games...Horizon being February at the earliest...and expect anything else early 2022?
Ugh...this game. I tried it, but found my mining materials were being used up for junk and no one wanted to generate power. Then the monster trashed our village and I quit.
Let me mirror/ditto the "FINALLY!" sentiment. Don't do live events...fine. Don't do any events? Da hell?! It's hard to go from live events at E3, Gamescon, TGS, etc. to...nothing.
I'm sure it will be a well scripted and produced showcase. Hopefully it will be very light on CGI trailers and offer actual gameplay instead. Unfortunately, cringe and live gaffes will most likely not making appearances.
@get2sammyb You're probably correct about Sony not caring. As much as I would like to credit the early PS4 adopters driving excitement levels and pushing the launch to be the most successful at the time, in truth it probably had more to do with Microsoft's mixed messaging and the $100 extra for an add-on few really wanted. Then Sony did what Sony does and brought the games...and it was Game Over.
That excitement hasn't waned. PS5 sales have outpaced the PS4's, all while navigating global supply chain issues.
I wish Sony would do more...an entire Summer without a true mega-event for PlayStation sucked...but they really don't have to do anything at the moment.
A few games in there that I'll flag for when they go on sale. I just dropped $100 on We Happy Few, Spiritfarer, Iron Man, Audica, L.A. Noire VR, The Persistence, and Rick & Morty VR...so I should be good until these drop.
@Max_the_German
I have over 100 PSVR games, which I just added to with The Persistence, Iron Man, Audica, Rick & Morty, and L.A. Noire's VR Case Files. It's basically it's own sub-ecosystem on my PS5 now. I just have to swap out the HDMI cable since I have the first gen version that doesn't have HDR pass through.
The 3D visuals with 3D sound are insane. Best investment of last gen that has carried over and plays better this gen (minus the cord swapping).
@Robocod
I loved the Robotech Macross Saga in its day. It was so different from the G.I. Joe/Tranformers/Thundercats formula. Characters you invested in died. And it became more common as it played out, with a genocide near the end. Great show, although the graphics and sound haven't held up enough for a re-watch...but damn...
@NickTheGeek
Yeah, but you have to have some product. I would agree if they had something like P.T. They would have probably been successful. They don't though. They have the equivalent of nothing. P.T. you could play, and it was amazing for an unannounced E3 teaser to be same day. This? Nothing. Maybe even less than nothing.
Point being, P.T. could draw investors. This B.S.? Not at this point.
I was a fan of the June - October game shows with live audiences. E3, GamesCon, Tokyo Game Show, PAX...live events to experience the cringe and Megatons. I've mentioned this before, but the nods to these events...like the Stage Fright trophy in Uncharted 4...they don't exist is this current environment. The Directs and State Ofs can be slick, may look cool, but there is no charm. No true personality. It's rehearsed. Shot and reshot. "Perfected" to the point of being a sizzle reel. It's a PR Department dream, but not a gamer's.
NPD presents interesting stats, and I realize that they're more privy to information than we are, but with the way things are categorized now...engagement, attachment rate, current subscribers...hell, that makes any job easy. Pick the best metric that paints the rosiest picture and ignore the rest...like consoles sold. Consoles schmonsoles. FOUR BILLION HOURS OF ENGAGEMENT! Awesome. I contributed 8 last night when I fell asleep at the console. Congrats!
@Link41x It's cool that they do these. I don't play the game myself, but I watch the event videos just to stay up to date. I agree that the Travis Scott event was much more...Epic.
Exploits are named such because people exploit them. I remember being able to replicate, then sell, loot in Oblivion. The exploit was limited to the amount of money a merchant had to spend, but you could wipe the merchants' purses out by spamming the exploit.
@Oscarjpc
Since June 2020 we've seen Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us 2, Astrobot, Demon Souls, Miles Morales, Sackboy, Destruction Allstars, Returnal, and Ratchet & Clank.
That's a pretty solid slate of games, especially considering that the "competition" hasn't released anything, outside a flight sim, in that time.
@KundaliniRising333
To be fair, Sony launched the PS5 with more games than most PlayStation launches. Astrobot, Miles Morales, Demons Souls, Sackboy...followed by Destruction Allstars, Returnal and Ratchet & Clank. The competition launched with literally nothing, unless you consider The Medium (coming to PlayStation Sept. 3) a system seller.
I do agree that I would like to see VRR implemented as promised, but reading the Digital Foundry reviews, the PS5 is pretty stable at 60FPS. It's the Xbox that struggles and needs VRR (which it has).
I'm still working through Returnal. Made it to the third Biome boss and got killed after the floor broke apart. I'm at 25% on Ratchet & Clank and haven't completed a mission on Miles Morales. I know Demon Souls and Sackboy are on sale right now, but given my backlog and the aforementioned games, I'm waiting for a deeper cut before I buy them. All this to say...Horizon can wait. Polish it up and make it glorious, as Sony does.
I anticipate more delays to come, across all platforms. Halo Infinite in 4 months? They couldn't even launch the technical test without a full server reset...and that's a technical test. More akin to an Alpha than a Beta. Bethesda? If Deathloop launches in September, I will be surprised. Ghostwire has already been delayed to early 2022, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it push out further. Starfield for November 2022? This is the first Xbox console exclusive from the $7.5 billion acquisition, so I'm sure the crunch is intense on this one...but it won't launch in 2022.
When I was in college and PlayStation and Saturn released, I rented both from Blockbuster to see which I liked better. I wound up buying the PlayStation. No regrets.
I had flashbacks to Home's theater area. Evil Dead is a classic. It made Bruce Campbell a god as Ash. Mac and Me? A knock off E.T. sponsored by McDonald's? Not so much.
What's truly insane is that The Last of Us II released in June 2020, followed by Ghost, then all the PS5 launch window games (Sackboy, Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, Astrobot, Destruction All-stars, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank)...and Xbox hasn't released anything.
