Re: Sony May Have Made the Right Call Not Copying Xbox Game Pass with PS Plus

lacerz

Wow..:so GamePass is LOSING subscribers! And once again, Microsoft uses deceitful language. It’s like their Modus Operandi. Obscure the truth with vagueness that can’t be classified as a lie, but doesn’t qualify as honesty either.

It’s like the Starfield and Indiana Jones deflection. To paraphrase, “We’re only releasing four games to PlayStation but they’re not Starfield or Indiana Jones.”

Okay, so the first four aren’t. What about game five? Or six? What number will the Starfield and Indiana Jones releases be since we know they won’t be a part of the initial four?

Same with GamePass. In January 2022 GamePass had 25 million subs. In the Activision trial it was disclosed that Xbox Live Gold had 11.7 million subscribers as of April 2022. Since they converted Live Gold to Game Pass Core, and Core included in these latest numbers, that puts the total LOSS at around 2.7 million subscribers!

That’s crazy!

@FuzzieGinge88
Are you talking EBITDA or net earnings? And there are multiple types of profit. Once again, net, but then there’s also gross and operating. I work mostly in ops, but have to factor them all in. Sorry, you were just really vague in your comment…you should go work for Xbox!

Although the question being begged is why tag me when I didn’t make a comment on financials? People…

Re: Reaction: Xbox Is Bringing Some Great Games to PS5, But Rumours Will Remain Rampant About What's Next

lacerz

I can’t believe Xbox had over a week to prep messaging for this event and this was the best they could do. Only four games, older/small/live service, with no Starfield or Indiana Jones…BUT…exclusivity is winding down and who can say what will release where. Phil Spencer’s doublespeak would have made George Orwell proud!

Bottom line, Xbox games are going multiplat. Not today. Not tomorrow. But soon. Hard stop.

Re: Xbox Is Bringing Four Exclusives to PS5, But It Won't Say Which

lacerz

@Rmg0731
Games nobody wants? Two of the games are in the top 5 of Series X|S exclusives!

1. 92 - Forza Horizon 5
2. 90 - Microsoft Flight Simulator
3. 87 - Hi-Fi Rush
3. 87 - Halo Infinite
5. 86 - Pentiment

Hi Fi is tied with Halo Infinite as the third best Xbox exclusive and Pentiment is number 5!

Re: Xbox Is Bringing Four Exclusives to PS5, But It Won't Say Which

lacerz

Completely expected. These four are laying the groundwork. Once shareholders see the added revenue stream, all Xbox games will become multiplat. My bet is by this time next year, Xbox games will be releasing on all consoles capable of running them. February 15, 2025. The beginning of the end of Xbox as we knew it.

@GamingFan4Lyf

Microsoft and Sony aren’t in the same game. They just happen to have consoles that are. And that $3 trillion dollar company wants a return on their $75 billion investment in Activision, which means more games for PlayStation!

Cool story indeed, bro!

Re: Xbox's Multiplatform Plans to Be Revealed on Thursday

lacerz

Meh. This is a corporate Microsoft decision that is being whittled down to a high level (low detail) Xbox podcast to “address” the matter without really addressing anything. I wouldn’t expect anything substantial from this. The fact that they had to have an internal Xbox town hall last Tuesday is more noteworthy than this.

Re: Xbox Has Allegedly Insisted It Won't Stop Making Consoles, As PS5 Port Rumours Mount

lacerz

Anyone who has been in corporate knows what “no plans” means. It’s a very open ended statement that doesn’t bring a strong sense of security.

$75 billion is more than 3x any other Microsoft acquisition in the company’s history. They may be worth more than $3 trillion, but shareholders are going to want visible returns on the largest acquisition in Microsoft’s history. Xbox be damned.

Re: Microsoft Employee Inadvertently Adds More Fuel to the Xbox Multiplatform Fire

lacerz

An interesting fact:
When Xbox doesn’t like their numbers, they quit sharing them.

Long gone are the 360 days of sharing consoles sold. That ended quickly after One released and quickly got doubled throughout its lifespan by the PS4.

But GamePass, the Xbox pride and joy, was continually being updated with subscription rates…until it wasn’t. Last subscription update? January 2022. Over two years ago.

There’s a reason Xbox is going multiplat.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About All of the Xbox Multiplatform Rumours?

lacerz

I think this quote from Robert Morrison (Bend) is spot on concerning competition:

“ There’s an understandable concern by some that a perceived lack of competition could degrade quality of releases. At the developer level, PlayStation studios don’t compete against Xbox or Nintendo studios. We are all driven by an internal desire to create the best work possible.”

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About All of the Xbox Multiplatform Rumours?

lacerz

I fall into the “I don’t care” category. It’s an interesting topic, and the flaming meltdowns are mildly entertaining, but there isn’t a single base Xbox game I give two sh**s about. I have enough money to invest in more than one system, but have never been slightly tempted.

Bethesda is a different matter, but that’s simply for Fallout and Elder Scrolls, and I can easily live without them.

Re: Rumour: Even Gears of War Is Reportedly in Talks to Come to PlayStation

lacerz

I guess you don’t spend around $90 billion in acquisitions since 2018 and expect shareholders to wait for massive profits from the growth. Letting PlayStation and Nintendo users contribute to Microsoft’s Xbox growth will be letting the genie out of the bottle. Shareholders won’t let those revenue streams disappear if allowed.
