Re: First Impressions: Sandbox Survival Takes Centre Stage in The Walking Dead Sequel for PSVR2, PSVR

lacerz

I love the original. Very unsettling, especially when getting surrounded by a horde. Another example of flat screens not being able to relay the immersion.

I’m curious…if they’re able to map 2 to the PSVR, but also port it to PSVR2…does that mean others could do the same with the existing PSVR library??? I’m not expecting it, but this gives me a sliver of hope.

Re: PS4 Outsold Xbox One by 'More Than Twice as Many' Consoles, It's Claimed

lacerz

"Sony has surpassed Microsoft in terms of console sales and install base, having sold more than twice as many [than] Xbox in the last generation."

This come across as counter intuitive position. Sony has more consumers, so that justifies Microsoft locking the majority of consumers who own a PlayStation out of Activision games? How is that consumer friendly? Sounds more like a violation of anti-trust laws.

Re: Sony Officially Licenses PS5 SSD from Western Digital

lacerz

@Shinnok789
Sony unlocked the extended storage slot 10 months after launch, not 2 years after. And there are plenty of makes and models to choose from. This article is reporting that Sony has actually endorsed one, but that doesn't change the fact that extensions have been available for almost a year now.

And let's not forget the market value. I can get a 1TB m.2 expansion card for the PS5 for $110. A 1TB proprietary expansion for the Series X costs $220.

Re: Sony Officially Licenses PS5 SSD from Western Digital

lacerz

@Milktastrophe
I'm sure the testing sorted it out, but even if not, there are plenty of other brands that easily meet the requirements. Sony stayed true to the console non-proprietary drive they started with the PS3, minus the Vita's proprietary (and overpriced) SD.

Re: Go Behind the Scenes with Insert Coin: The Making of Arcade Paradise

lacerz

Back when I was a child, my mom worked a second job at Aladdin's Castle at the local mall. I spent so much time in the arcade. Galaga, Defender, Pac-Man, Dig Dug...I remember when Spy Hunter and Dragon's Lair came out in '83...both were literal game changers! And the original Street Fighter? You had to PUNCH the buttons! JUST. DON'T. MISS.

Needless to say, that machine was broken most of the time.

Re: Poll: Was Sony's State of Play the Best Gaming Showcase of June?

lacerz

I enjoyed the majority of the shows, but was pleasantly surprised by Sony's showing. Having a lot of VR experience, I was really excited for Horizon, Saints & Sinners and Resident Evil. The 2D doesn't do it justice, but VR users know what those will look like in play, and it's pretty exciting! A lot of other stuff was shown as well, but I think what really got me excited was the lack of much first party. All these Sony Studios tinkering away, and outside of God of War, we don't know much on what they're tinkering on!

I think Microsoft's show was good, but when you have to isolate it to games that were mostly shown 18 months ago and are finally being staged as releasing in the next 12 months, after the aforementioned 18 months with only Forza as a first party release...it's more of a "it's about damn time!" than anything else.

Re: Reaction: PS Plus' PS5, PS4 Restart Is Welcome and Smart

lacerz

It’s Sony’s catalog that makes it a win. No Day One releases, but with such a HUGE catalog and continuous releases, it trumps the Day One argument. Do I play games Day One? Sometimes, but rarely. Having that availability is nice, but necessary? What is necessary are games.

Sony has a HUGE catalog of games. Day One first party releases for Xbox in 2021? Forza and Halo. November and December. That’s it. 2022? Nothing.

Day One is a buzzword. Content is a reality.

Re: Round Up: The Quarry Reviews Say It's As Good As Until Dawn

lacerz

Supermassive should probably be talent scouts. Until Dawn was marketed as a horror game with Hayden Panettiere involved. Who else was involved with little credit (understandable at the time of release)? Rami Malek, who would go on to win a BAFTA, Golden Globe, Emmy, and Oscar!

Re: Soapbox: I Really Miss E3

lacerz

@GamingFan4Lyf
I'll take 30 minutes of footage for games coming within the next year. Microsoft had an excellent 2021 show last June. Guess how many of those games shown have released? One. Forza. Guess how many will release this year? Zero.

But those were some nice 90 minutes.

Re: Massive Street Fighter 6 Leaks Acknowledged by Capcom

lacerz

If there is a NDA (non-disclosure agreement), there should be no leaks. All employees are required to sign NDAs upon hiring, and NDAs are a natural part of contracting. Outside of the Service Agreement Confidentiality Clause is a NDA. Standard business practice.

That said...there are deliberate "leaks" that are supposed to generate attention. "That shouldn't be out there, but it is!!!" It's become a marketing routine. The hype of learning what shouldn't be known makes it MORE interesting than the granular reveal. Is that what this is? Who knows. Marketing is marketing. Not my forte.

Re: Third Party Publishers Probably Ditching Their Own Events This Summer

lacerz

For as much grief that is piled on Sony for its recent lack of communication, at least they track towards following through on what they show. I think the longest lead item they’ve shown recently is Wolverine. 2023? Probably 2024.

Still, it beats the heck out of the CGI fest that Microsoft heaped on everyone. I thin Forza and Halo are the only two games from that to actually release, with nothing else slated until 2023 at the earliest, and even Halo is incomplete with issues.

Re: The Tomorrow Children Will Feature Community-Designed Islands in PS4 Revival

lacerz

Sorry, but this game was awful. They’d have to do a complete tear down and rebuild to even get me to try it as a F2P again. Button mashing on a treadmill to build energy, only to have the energy used by another player for some nonsense. Mining is tedious and traveling the void is annoying. I deleted this after about 20 minutes of trying to make sense of it all.

Re: Reaction: Sony's Positive PS Plus Reboot Proves the Value of Catalogues

lacerz

Demon's Souls and Guardians of the Galaxy make this worth it to me. That said, this is only 1/5th (150 of 750 titles) that are going to be available at launch. That number is insane! It's almost as large as my digital library!

Edit: Never mind...I only have 669 games in my digital library...224 PlayStation Plus titles...but I'm pretty sure that doesn't include my PS3 library.

Re: Talking Point: Does Sony Need a Big Summer Showcase?

lacerz

One of Sony’s most marketable divisions is the PlayStation games division. A lot of that is due to the marketing of the PS4 and the transparency with the consumers. That has disappeared, and I believe it’s affecting opinions on the brand.

I like PlayStation and am invested in the ecosystem, but unlike the past, I have little knowledge as to what there is to look forward to. Ragnarok, TLoU Factions, Spider-man 2, and Wolverine we’re aware of. But what else is there? All these studios and not much detail. Hopefully Sony opens up a little more and lets us know what the future of our investments hold.
