Personally hope it's sci-fi, but as long as it holds the quality of uncharted and last of us, I'm onboard. I just hope it's not as serious as tlou again.
@The_Wailing_Doom oh, as sound as all these companies are making decisions these days I wouldn't be surprised if epic store exclusive Sony games will be the next genius move they make.
I did enjoy the soulsborne formula, but found the snobbish "gitgud" community around it rather annoying. I couldn't care less if a game is hard if I'm having fun. I find stellar blade and hopefully blackmyth have a better more fun and inclusive approach.
It was a cinematic trailer that didn't make me fall asleep, so that's a plus in my book. Let's judge it by it's gameplay. People and pushsquare just trying to brew up some unnecessary controversy. Yasuke existed so no problem there. And if anybody gets serious about historical accuracy in assassin's creed, that person is moron anyways. Also didn't hear any outcries when the first Nioh game was released and Japan tried to cater to western audiences.
@get2sammyb just thought there's bigger playstation news (possible portable device in development) than that madden is named the same, but I then thought, you do you and report what you want, hence I deleted it.
300-400€$ would have been a better launch price. The hardware wasn't anything exciting at launch anyways. As I always say, this has been the most useless generation. From 1-4 there were huge leaps in graphical fidelity and gameplay evolutions and now we're all pissing around about framerates, Res and hardly noticeable ray tracing.
@Tobiaku Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure to check it out if I'm on the lookout. I'm in Europe so most of the limited print games end up in retail here anyways after some time has passed. If not then it's usually available at play Asia.
@Vivisapprentice agree on that. That's why the games with pre rendered backgrounds or top down camera still work today unlike things like Spyro or Syphon Filter.
LRG is heating up the dvd-r burners 😂 They struck gold having this release and I'm sure it'll be one of their most successful ones. I sure hope they don't f* up like they usually do. Each time I ordered from them the cover design was laughable and the shipping way to high. Tbh, they're really scummy and their mission is definitely not game preservation.
@Vivisapprentice also, if it's the visuals you mean give duckstation a shot. With wide-screen hacks, upscaled Res and geometry correction the games partially look like PS2 in HD. Ridge racer and wipeout for example.
@Vivisapprentice ps1 still has some very replayable survival horror games, racing games and of course jrpgs. Action games haven't aged well since most games didn't take advantage of the dual shock.
Sorry for all affected. Employee protection laws do cover the Japanese staff, but the EU and US are unfortunately not covered. Time to rethink western capitalism.
As much as I love Square Enix, they've fallen on their nose by following a business strategy set up in the early 2000s which should have been evaluated and adjusted since then. Nevertheless they did release an onslaught of mostly great games. I think a Japan based core team can continue the tradition, while reducing superfluous fluff releases like harvestella and foamstars.
I hope pushsquare is soon done with it's "Sony is doing fine" marathon.
I have no question Sony will be doing well financially, but that's not really the relevant concern. I don't care who's top dawg in the business as long as they push eachother, protect employees, innovate the medium and remain pro consumer, but Sony has clearly failed in these regards.
@get2sammyb big corps decide that the games have to be so massively expensive because they can only think in maximalist terms.
Indie studios get by fine and they innovate. Before being bought up by Microsoft Ninja Theory went guerilla dev with the first hellblade and made a tripleA game on a low to moderate budget. Now Microsoft is throwing all the money at it and will probably not make ends meet.
Sony could revisit all these old series, without going high risk on it, but that's just not the way these companies think anymore because they all just want to make shareholders happy.
Shouldn't that game just be on ps plus at this point? I mean, wasn't that the entire selling point of plus extra and premium to have the exclusive library a little while after retail release.
I guess at this point they've plateaued subs and see little point in adding value... classic
Ugh, when companies try to force ecosystems and proprietary stuff unto consumers. I mean, didn't you already learn your lesson with the psvita memory? Didn't go that well now did it.
I think it's good that Sony is breaking into the pc market, but just have an optional log in for those who want trophies and be done with it.
I feel like the fallout TV series has explained it well, a bunch of incompetent management wants to run and destroy the world.
Now I can get behind a move like that from the gaming community. We definitely need more positive reinforcement, rather than constant outrage and overblown controversy.
Perhaps the steam reviews are also due to the fantastic humble choice bundle this month. I got this after playing it originally on game pass and still plan to get a physical copy on ps5 if that comes to fruition.
I'm really sad about Tango and hope the talent will reorganize in a similar constellation.
I'm behind square Enix wherever they release their games. Sony and Microsoft have made the most unnecessary gen while PC is the way to go now with the growth of pc handhelds, so I'll be heading more and more over there where I'm not locked into some ecosystem.
I'll believe it once I see it. Truthfully, Sony got me to a point of not caring in advanced, though the last thing I want to be is jaded about my favourite hobby on my past favourite place to play. Actually found more excitement in the iii stream than past state of plays.
@get2sammyb I doubt Sony has been more careful announcing things too early, otherwise we wouldn't have info like the wolverine game and some others. The only big ones that really hold up to that standard is Nintendo, and most other Japanese studios.
Actually find this uncharacteristically innovative for ps5 era Sony. Duh, of course one can grab the phone and look up YouTube, but that pulls me out of the game. If it detects by context what info I need I can save myself from
Getting my phone Entering fitting keywords for my problem Selecting from a ton of videos Waiting to skip the ads if possible Finding the right timestamp for my problem
If I could save all that with a press from the ps button, that is great stuff and commendable. Definitely more useful than custom wallpapers.
Personally find the loss of Tango the most dramatic, since it's the only Japanese studio, which gave Bethesda's general bland, seemingly high-brow yet derivative offerings some well needed flavour.
However, I am looking forward to the blade and Indy games. Maybe they're better suited for licensed fluff, since most of their own IPs are snoozefests.
Oh great, a day of break before we get the next big "controversy". At the end of the day both big corps and a loud minority on the internet are both a bunch of morons.
Perhaps a solution would be to overall support government regulation of corporations and thereby fortifying consumer protection agencies. This hit or miss mob mentality and hating by default is just souring this hobby.
So instead of begrudgingly paying your taxes and defining free speech as being an anonymous a**hole online, think what good it can do to support socially minded government in all areas of life.
That's alright, just start a new studio for that please.
I would also very much like to see another ni no kuni or another new title. Really looking forward to deca police. I have a feeling that is going to be a hit.
@SNARF bummer... Maybe it's some elaborate scheme by Sony to get you to subscribe to ps plus premium and just stream the game instead. 😉 Either way, I hope you can finish this epic game soon.
@Cloud39472 there's just too much to list... Clive is the unwanted ***** son who rises up to the occasion (John snow), father gets killed early on which sets things in motion (Ned stark), Clive's Stepmom is a Cercei like schemer, there's even a hodor like character and a direwolf. That's just character similarities, but you got a bunch of plot similarities as well.
I'd rather square Enix just reinvent themselves within their own style and culture rather than pandering to the 18+ "we want gritty dark fantasy" crowd. I think from software has that well covered.
@NEStalgia I agree that the tech was also unimpressive, but people just kept raving about it. But if the tech was just the least of it's problems though. The action gameplay is ok, but there's nothing between that. No meaningful character or item customisation, side quest are the most basic fetchquests, cut scenes are drawn out which "borrow" so heavily from game of thrones you can't call it flattery no more,... Some people blame rebirth for bloat with it's extra content, but at least it has something to do and the mini games are mostly fun as well. Even if you'd cut that away you still have a fun original story and good core gameplay.
Man, pushsquare sure loves this topic. The daily square Enix bash continues. The only FF people here ride up to defend like it's their firstborn child is FF16 , for no reason other than that it's a long term exclusive. Not that that shallow tech demo has anything meaningful to offer.
One nice tidbit of information however was that XV was the top seller. That game, flawed as it was, was a game and had fun things to do and a fun set of characters.
It's not like the ps5s raw power will push VR Further, but rather accessibility and ease of use. Though it pains me to speak well of them, Meta have figured that out. Sony fanboys were so wrong on the wireless vs visual fidelity arguement.
If Sony wants to continue selling vr software they should just collab and make quest compatible with the ps5. It's not like their headset sales were ever going to make a meaningful profit and eye tracking and feveat rendering aren't essential features either. Opening psvr2 to pc is good, but they won't make money with games that way.
@SNARF sorry that you're having such a bad experience, as this is one of my favourite PS4/5 games. @ShogunRok These days it's just hard to work out the severity of a situation, since unplayable has lost all meaning within online discourse.
This is a pretty bad look, but I'd also take phrases like "borderline unplayable" with a grain of salt from spec maximalist. Still, this is just sloppy.
People always get off bad mouthing square enix, but they've been consistently pushing out great titles that sometimes may be niche, but their biggest fault is releasing games in to quick succession, leaving little room to breathe and promote.
A) remake was a ps4 game and had a way bigger install base than ps5, so can we finally stop making rebirth look like a failure.
B) Have you heard of any square Enix layoffs? I sure haven't. It's not the Japanese way of business to lay off people for short term shareholder joy. Re-evaluating there workflow is a much wiser approach.
So in the end, is there room to improve, sure... yet still, Square Enix remains one of the better examples within this business.
@UncleByron Nikkei managed to release a great AAA single player action game with stellar blade despite having a track record of mobile gotcha games only. I think bloober knows what they're working on. I'd rather give bloober the benefit of the doubt and support them in their efforts. Only played observer so far and it wasn't on the nose.
