Unfortunately, if your PS5 is not directly connected to the internet through an ethernet cable, the PS Portal is somewhat useless. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if your PS5 is connected through Wi-Fi, streaming through a Portal will be extremely laggy at best.

@PsychoMoxley I’m using my Portal through WiFi connection and it is passable, although you do sacrifice some of the stability of the experience. So Petrecis is correct in the sense that it’s slightly subpar. However, I don’t have complete disconnections every 5-10 minutes. I often just get a little lag and loss of picture quality every 10 minutes or so, which is fine for turn based games. I have read that this new update has sacrificed some of the connection stability, and I think I agree that my connection is less stable since the recent update. Hopefully they fix it soon.

There are a few tips you can find online about ways that might help your connection. Obviously hard wiring your PS5 is the main thing, but if you can’t, then —

There’s some that say it functions better when you put the game in performance mode rather than fidelity mode, which makes sense since the screen is only 1080p anyways so no use in streaming all the extra 4K data anyways. Also, you can try disabling HDR (the portal screen can’t do that) and VRR in the PS5 settings. Theoretically that will keep the game from trying to send that extra data that could slow down the stream. Not sure if it’s true though when I tried that it didn’t make a drastic difference.
Another tip I saw was to make sure the Portal is using the router’s 5 GHz channel, which may require tinkering with your router settings. Then some people say to disconnect your HDMI cord from the PS5 for better performance…? Which sounds like it would get annoying but if you’re desperate then you might try it. Again, I think the idea is to make sure the PS5 isn’t trying to send 4K data or extra data that’s unnecessary.

One option you have if your router is far from the PS5 is to use a PlugLink ethernet adapter which may help with the stuttering. They basically use the power lines in your house to connect devices in different rooms so you can connect your router to it in one room and the PS5 to the pluglink in the other room. I don’t have one but many people have claimed they work well and is nearly as stable is hardwiring directly to the router.

Sorry to hear about your issues, and hopefully you get it sorted out soon. 😄
