Topic: Wife and I Want to Play Games Together on the Couch

We just bought PS4 Pro with the idea of sitting together at home playing some games. We seem to have trouble finding good games that the two of us can play together. We don't mind shooter games but just blasting away at monsters constantly gets a bit boring. Something with a little strategy would be nice but we seem to be having trouble finding something we might really enjoy and be able to play together. Are there any good recommendations or should we just try to to find something for PC laptops?

@GG_Midi I highly recommend A Way Out. My son and I recently did a playthrough of it and loved every minute of it. There is a few parts where you have to shoot but most of it is quick time events and puzzles and such. The story is really good too. It gives that buddy film vibe when playing it. Nice thing too is the game nowadays runs for $20 or less.

@GG_Midi Great idea!

I play games with my partner and lot - maybe even most of them. Still, finding the perfect couch co-op game isn't always that easy.

Also, we tend to play a lot of single player games together, and play in turns. I found out that can be a lot of fun, but I don't think that's what you're looking for? LMK!

Anyway, some favorites:

  • Lara Croft Temple of Osiris. Pretty good top down Tomb Raider game that has a bit of everything: combat, puzzles, platforming and you need good communication skills to win.
  • Guacamelee. Melee metroidvania. Chaotic, fun.
  • Towerfall. It's perfect in vs, but I've spent countless hours on this with my brother. Partner doesn't like it as much, as it is pretty hardcore in co-op.
  • The famous: Overcooked
  • Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time. You have to steer a ship together through a cutesy version of space. Partner found it too cheesy, but I think it's fun.
  • Heavy Rain/Beyond: this are actually hybrid single player/multiplayer games. The games support each player having their own character to control, but you don't play at the same time. It's narrative driven if that's your cup of tea.
  • Unravel 2. Great platformer series.
  • Could of of Light. One of the playable characters is much more limited than the other, but it was one of my partner's favorites to play together.
  • Spelunky. Co-op roguelike in which you try to work your way down as many levels of mines together. Also sidescroller.
  • Rayman Legends. Perfect platforming for two.
  • A bit of Terraria, a bit of Stardew Valley, put into a coop experience. Sadly the obligatory tutorial is single player only.

These are some of our person favorites. Of course, most of them are indie games. Unfortunately they are the only creators that still care about local a lot it seems.

Also, there is Divinity if you're both a fan of CRPG!

Depends what type of games you like, obviously, but I've played a bunch with my fiance. Diablo III is great, Divinity Original Sin and the sequel are ace RPGs you can play in co-op from start to finish, there's an isometric Lara Croft one that we played that is alright, Borderlands...

Thanks everyone for some excellent suggestions, I'll be looking into these. We started with Diablo III and we really like the theme but get a little weary of the constant battling with monsters. We've only just started perhaps there will be a little more variety as we go along?
In the past I've mostly done PC based games and had a lot of fun with a few in wifi/two player modes. Going way back there was Decent, Duke Nukem and a great one for two player strategy was Age of Empires. I've really enjoyed a few in just single player mode also like the Hitman series and especially Grand Theft Auto. Way way back I enjoyed Sierra games like Leisure Suit Larry and Police Quest.

Can I add Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime? It's a hoot!

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.
