& backwards compatibility . prior to that, i only had a gamecube , but it didn’t take long to realize ps2s library blew it the ***** out of the water . ps2 was a must have
PS1 : Resident Evil (first game bought with the console after seeing the reviews in the magazines) and Tomb Raider
PS2 : God of War 2 (played the game at a friend, bought the console the next week)
PS3 : God of War 3 (bought a PS3 and a HD TV when the game came out)
PS4 : bought launch day
PS5 : bought launch day
PSP : bought years later as a portable emulator
PS Vita : no a specific game, but the great amount of games accumulated via PS+ made me buy it

Midnight Club games were such a awesome experience. @Olmaz my journey into the R E Verse started with R E 2 PSX the experience is instilled into my brain. @Bentleyma I played the demo that was included with OPM cover disc it was fun.

PS4 - The Order 1886 (Saw the first trailer and knew I wanted a PS4, but in the end I bought that game years later.)
PS5 - Demon's Souls remake and the, at the time, inevitable God of War sequel.

PS4 It wasn't one particular game, just being bored of what Xbox had to offer. If The Last of Us was announced for PS4 version before I got the console, that was one game I was gutted I missed out on.

Got PS2 for MGS2.... and then came back to gaming during the pandemic.
Made a call based on exclusives, there was nothing really 'grabbing' me from the XB side (never been a Halo fan) - so it was DeS remake that clinched me getting a PS5
Gravity Rush, Persona 4 Golden, Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, and Corpse Party - PS Vita. Never owned a PSP, so I also took that library into consideration.
Final Fantasy VII - PS1 Silent Hill 2 - PS2 Gravity Rush 2, Silent Hills, and Persona 5 - PS4. At least two of those worked out, although now we won't be getting any more GR games.

PlayStation 4 - let’s be real there were no games for a year and I was buying it on auto pilot
PlayStation 5 - it’s hard to justify this purchase looking at the software catalogue. 3 years in and its crossgen titles and a few exclusives. Demon Souls was nice, but that’s it. I can justify it based on the quieter performance and the faster loading, but this gen has been a bit of a bust so far. Baldurs Gate 3 is good!

It'd get even worse if I included my Nintendo DS Lite, which was purchased purely for the Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush games. I'm nothing if not consistent!

The game was GTA3, the console was PS2, and it cost $200 after a recent price cut. That was December 2002. I went from a Super Nintendo to a PS2. My life then did not allow much time for gaming but time for rented movies. Blockbuster would be out of vcr tapes while having dvd copies. I needed a dvd player actually more than a game console so I could rent the latest movies.
The killer was when I watched and sampled GTA3 while visiting a friend. I purchased my PS2 the next week.
My vcr worked well with my PS2 and my Super Nintento when I found game play could be recorded onto vcr tape.
