What are the most anticipated PS5 games of 2025? This was the all-important question that we asked the Push Square community a couple of weeks back, and now, the results are in.
2025 is already shaping up to be one heck of a strong year for Sony's current-gen console. Shockingly, our poll included 75 (seventy-five!) different games — and that's without considering the many titles that'll be both announced and handed release dates over the coming months.
A whopping 10,725 votes were cast in our poll to find the most anticipated PS5 games of the coming year. We've gathered the top 20 titles with the most votes for the sake of this article.
Without further ado, let's see what 2025 has in store...
20. Civilization 7 - 144 votes (1%)
19. Split Fiction - 186 votes (2%)
18. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii - 187 votes (2%)
17. Judas - 189 votes (2%)
16. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra - 203 votes (2%)
15. Borderlands 4 - 219 votes (2%)
14. Monster Hunter Wilds - 227 votes (2%)
13. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - 228 votes (2%)
12. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - 233 votes (2%)
11. The Outer Worlds 2 - 237 votes (2%)
10. Elden Ring: Nightreign - 254 votes (2%)
9. Crimson Desert - 290 votes (3%)
8. Assassin's Creed Shadows - 409 votes (4%)
7. DOOM: The Dark Ages - 462 votes (4%)
6. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater - 488 votes (5%)
5. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - 505 votes (5%)
Having already released to strong reviews on Xbox, it's no huge surprise to see Indiana Jones and the Great Circle do well for itself on this list. In a lot of ways, it's easier to get excited for something that's of a known quality.
The action adventure is set to drop in the first quarter of 2025 for PS5, so it probably won't be long until we get a confirmed release date.
By almost all accounts, this one nails the feel of those old Indy movies; the swashbuckling fights, the deadly traps left behind by ancient civilisations, and, perhaps most importantly, the franchise's core identity of wonder and discovery.
Plus, let's be real: this is the closest we're getting to a new Uncharted.
4. Mafia: The Old Country - 558 votes (5%)
We're yet to actually see this new Mafia game in action, but teasers and a dramatic reveal trailer at The Game Awards 2024 have been enough to land the fourth spot on this list.
Because the gaps between its most recent instalments have been so long, it's easy to forget that Mafia is a big franchise, always capable of striking a chord with a more casual audience. And in going back to its Italian roots, The Old Country could end up being a mega hit.
So what do we actually want from a new Mafia title? Well, for starters, the story's got to be a real thriller — and the series usually delivers on that front. It's also important that The Old Country doesn't get bogged down in open world busywork like Mafia 3 did.
One to watch, for sure.
3. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach - 655 votes (6%)
You just know that Death Stranding 2 is going to offer up something completely different in 2025. The first Death Stranding already did this back in 2019, and everything points towards this sequel being even more insane. We wouldn't have it any other way!
The big draw here is seeing what kind of fresh madness Hideo Kojima has cooked up. Where could the story possibly be headed? What's on the line for Sam Porter Bridges and his unlikely allies? What new gameplay mechanics will we be gawking at?
You can expect Sony to put some heavy marketing heft behind Death Stranding 2, so for now, it's just a case of waiting for the hype machine to kick into gear over the coming months.
2. Ghost of Yotei - 1,479 votes (14%)
Absolutely tearing ahead of the pack is Ghost of Yotei — the sequel to beloved PS4 adventure Ghost of Tsushima.
So little is known about Ghost of Yotei right now, but you can bet that it'll be the spearhead of Sony's first-party plans in 2025. As we all know, the Japanese giant keeps its cards close to its chest these days, and rarely announces anything without having a firm marketing and release schedule already in place.
Yotei was revealed during a particularly packed State of Play broadcast in September of last year, and it immediately stood out from the crowd. We can see this sequel offering up a more dynamic open world, and a more in-depth combat system, complete with different weapon types.
Sucker Punch hit a home run with Tsushima, and really, all it needs to do is expand upon what the first game got right. Honestly, we can't see this being anything other than a PS5 must-play.
1. Grand Theft Auto 6 - 1,490 votes (14%)
Well, well, well, what do we have here? Grand Theft Auto 6 is your most anticipated PS5 game of 2025, pipping Ghost of Yotei to the post by just 11 votes. We didn't think it'd be so close!
Still, there's simply no getting away from the universal pull of Rockstar's crime-laden series. GTA 6 isn't just the heaviest hitter of 2025 — it's set to be one of the most impactful entertainment releases of all time. The hype for this thing has been off the charts for years, long before its official reveal in December 2023.
The truth is that no one does open worlds quite like Rockstar — and we fully expect GTA 6 to raise the bar, given how long it's been in the oven.
Drama is inevitable, however. We're still waiting on a confirmed release date, and we can guarantee that the coming months will be stuffed with rumours regarding the game's development, Rockstar's internal affairs, and controversial takes as more information is revealed. Imagine GTA 6 being hit with a delay into 2026. The internet as we know it would probably implode.
Still, the excitement is palpable. We just need to hope and pray that the game lives up to these unprecedented expectations.
What do you make of this list? Did your most anticipated PS5 games make the cut? Look towards a bright future in the comments section below.

Some interesting stats from the poll:
Thanks to everyone who voted!
Out if everything announced that has a shot of hitting a 2025 release date, Doom is probably my number one followed by Expedition 33.
That's a solid top 3, really looking forward to Doom and Indy too, I still have half of 2024 releases to get through but 2025 is looking excellent!
I hope Expedition 33 and Crimson Desert turn out good. Also looking forward to Majima and Death Stranding 2
Wow I'm surprised anything even challenged GTA6! Good stuff Ghost!
It's sure to be a banger of a year regardless of your interest. Even if GTA ends up being delayed (I still don't believe it's coming this year) there is plenty to be excited for.
Hoping Fable makes it across, but that aside, I can get on board with this top 5
I don't think anything is beating gta, game is going to be absolutely massive.
I thought Monster Hunter Wilds would be higher than that 😮💨
Death Stranding 2 is my clear number 1. My backlog wil provide me for the whole year (as it did last year), but for this one I’ll make an exception and buy it on release day.
Only interested in the top 2 assuming GTA 6 does actually release this which is still not a guarantee.
Possible complaints about GT6:
Too woke
Not woke enough
Map too small
Map too big
They're still making content for GTA5 online?
It's available on PS4? Let it die already!
Nice to see there's plenty looking forward to an MGS game still, that's just a remake and has no Kojima on it. Reminds me still ain't got round to the master collection yet even though played them all to death already before
My top 5:
GTA 6 (If it makes 2025)
KKD2
AC Shadows
Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Avowed
Outside contenders:
Mafia The Old Country
Crimson Desert (If it makes 2025)
Like a Dragon Pirates of Yakuza
The Outer Words 2
@CVCubbington My GTA 6 complaints could be:
Too woke
I'm too broke
No big smoke
@UltimateOtaku91 I'm excited for Monster Hunter Wilds because I know it will be great but I haven't even scratched the surface of Monster Hunter World
I'm glad I voted for Civilization 7, it looks so lonely at the very back. I really hope the devs include an option to disable the mechanic that forces you to switch civilizations throughout your playthrough. It's a deal breaker if they don't. I'll definitely be making time for Death Stranding 2. Maybe Wilds too, World was amazing.
I've bounced off the previous GTAs and will probably only buy this after reviews, patches, and when it's cheap enough for me to bounce off it again. Oh well, plenty of other games for me to get once my backlog (currently nine unfinished games) has gone down a bit!
1. Atelier Yumia
2. Trails Through Daybreak II
3. Everything else
MH Wilds is way too low. Almost 100% certain one of the best games of 2025 and its coming out really soon
I'm different.
One of my choice for upcoming PS5 game 2025 is Petit Island.
A cute cozy game with animal characters for my PS5.
@GirlVersusGame I believe they said that you can play it the original way as well you just have to adjust the settings before you start the game
@Jordanwilliams5goat That's the best news I heard all day, thanks. Pre-order back on.
Wait with Crimson Desert and make it really cool....
All other games is spot on.....
Hands up sitting down for Split Vision and Judas...
Ghost of Yotei is one of those completely monumental world stopping releases for me personally. It might be the only day one game I get all year(i’ll also play Avowed Day five and I’m very excited, and slightly apprehensive, about it. Also, and I’m fairly sure that will be a PS5 game within 2025)
Was Pro Evolution Master League on the list? 🤞
I might be in the minority here, but I’m not interested in GTA VI at all. In fact, I’ve skipped every GTA game, and it’s going to stay that way.
However, the ones I’m really looking forward to are: Ghost of Yotei, Mafia, Death Stranding, Split Fiction, Hell is Us, and Indiana Jones.
Could be some sleeper hits like Where Winds Meet
or Hell is Us.
Grand Theft Auto VI is my #1 expectation this year, with Ghost Of Yotei. I really enjoyed Ghost Of Tsushima as i have the platinum trophy! My fiancé Ben is looking forward to Mafia The Old Country he loves the Mafia games. Honourable mention for myself i'm looking forward to F1 25 by Codemasters & EA.
None of those titles really seem interesting to me
Monster Hunter in 14th is actually criminal. Y'all are hella uncultured.
I played indy on gamepass, it started good but got boring pretty fast i only managed to play maybe half of it before putting it down. It was the constant stealth i think it would have been amazing if it was more like uncharted or tomb raider action wise. My top 3 for next year is gta, mafia and death stranding
genuinely shocked that gta6 didn't run away with it.
as for death stranding 2, if kojima chose not to radically change up the gameplay, i think it is destined to be a financial failure. it appears that there were many, many people who didn't jive with the first game (for good reason) and who otherwise were big kojima fans as a result of his work with the mgs franchise. those same people will absolutely NOT be taking a chance on death stranding 2 after feeling bummed by the first game. seeing as death stranding 1 only sold 5m copies, i expect the sequel to reach 3m at best (if the core mechanics of the game are the same). for a AAA game of this magnitude (not to mention all the hollywood actors he has lined up again), i don't see a world where that can possibly result in a net profit for sony or kojima productions. BUT, hopefully kojima has a trick up his sleeve and will subvert expectations with this one. as it stand, i personally have very low interest in it currently.
outside of a handful of games, 2025 doesn't look too eventful. but perhaps gta6 alone will be enough to keep the AAA industry afloat for another year.
Was Intergalactic not on the list? Could have sworn that I voted for that… bah!
Grand Theft Auto… 🙄
@ear_wig it probably shouldn't be seeing as a 2025 release would be wishful thinking.
@Porco You’re probably right! 😭
Monster hunter is waaay bellow my expectations, death stranding is my n1, not a great year imo, but 4/5 games day one for me
Grand theft auto 6 is already the 🐐 👑.word up son
@ear_wig Nah, the list was made up of games that have specifically been given a 2025 release date / window — and Intergalactic doesn't have that yet.
Having said that, I wouldn't be massively surprised if Intergalactic did launch in late 2025. PlayStation Studios games are rarely announced way ahead of release these days.
Oh, I missed the poll! I am definitely excited for Ghost of Yotei, might be my top pick. I still love Borderlands despite BL3 being a small letdown, so I'm excited for BL4 also. Beyond that, mostly smaller things. Unless... is Wolverine finally supposed to come out this year? Feels doubtful.
Also, I feel like I am obligated to check out Death Stranding as I like Kojima, but.... I'm worried the weird body and baby imagery is too prevalent. I've discovered that kind of stuff just does not jive with me at all.
GTA VI is the most anticipated game?
Well, color me SHOCKED!
Jokes aside, it seems we're in for another great year of games! I say bring it on!
This is just a poll for PS5 owners. Throw in Xbox and PC and obviously GTA 6 would be #1 by a large margin. Also, never heard of Ghost of Yotei.
This community really is in the minority I guess. Besides GTA6 obviously being the most anticipated game of all time ever.
For Playstation specifically, I look forward to Sony exclusives.
But third party I’m looking forward to Trails in the Sky First Chapter, Trails through Daybreak 2, and the next game in Trails (Kai no Kiseki).
Oh and whatever Atlus does with Persona (P5X?).
Strong list. There's 5 or 6 I'm interested in.
I think GTA 6 was only ahead by a bit because some people firmly think it won't release in 2025. I can't say I'm super excited for Yotei. Tsushima was probably the best "map game" I've played but fatigue still set in for me long before I finished it.
I am absolutely swamped in this great buffet of games.
I have an actual playing log, a substantial backlog, a deep and beckoning wishlist that is set to explode in size this year. I wouldn't be surprised if I only get Kingdom Come 2 and GTA VI this year. They're absolute mammoth units.
It's funny that the number 1 game might not even release in 2025
Lunar Remastered Collection
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PC Port)
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
I'm sure DOOM will be awesome, but I still need to play Eternal.
Judas is criminally under-ranked here...
Idk if I voted, but I would have voted for monster hunter wilds.
#1Death Stranding
#2 GTA 6
#3 Indiana Jones
So far, nothing else till November Black Friday Deals.
@Porco I'm not sold on the game right now, so I'd be one of those you mentioned. DS seemed like an idea that could work exceptionally well as a Netflix or Disney series, but I just don't think it worked at all as a game. I'm not expecting a radical change, either, so I think I'll be skipping it outright.
But I guess it remains to be seen. It could be lightning in a bottle, like SH2.
Surprised to see Ghost of Yotei go toe to toe with a juggernaut like GTA VI; guess people really liked Ghost of Tsushima.
Personally a bit disappointed to see fighting games continue to prove unpopular, since there are some pretty good ones coming out this year, but I guess no-one cares much. Even 2XKO, the (I thought) highly anticipated LoL fighter (though one I’m not personally interested in) isn’t anywhere in the top 20, whereas some obscure games (including one literally called “Clair Obscur”) I’ve never heard of are.
Oh well, in any case, there’s a pretty decent selection of games this year, so, provided they mostly turn out as expected, things should be good for the next few months.
2 of my most anticipated are in the top 5, big I'm also quite looking forward to VtMB2, which is slated for the first half of the year. It's not the same game I was looking forward to in 2018, but it still looks interesting, if more of a 7/10 rather than the 9/10 I wanted (i.e if it's your jam you'll love it, but it's unlikely to be a mass market hit). I'm also hoping that STALKER 2 will come to PS5 in 2025, but I might end up getting it on PC anyway.
