The time has come to reveal the top 10 PS5 games of 2024... according to readers of Push Square!
Every year, we invite you (and everyone else) to vote for their favourite releases, which results in a top 10 list that both influences our own official Game of the Year rankings, and provides the basis for this very article.
Here are the previous winners of our community Game of the Year vote, dating back to 2018:
- 2018: God of War (2018)
- 2019: Days Gone
- 2020: Ghost of Tsushima
- 2021: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- 2022: God of War Ragnarok
- 2023: Marvel's Spider-Man 2
As always, our poll included 50 PS5 titles, all of which released in the last 12 months. Readers could vote for up to five games, and 12,652 votes were cast in total.
For the record, every single game on our shortlist received at least 20 votes, which suggests that 2024 really did have something for everyone.
Now then, it's time to unveil the winners. Below is the full top 10 — the 10 best PS5 games of 2024, as voted by you!
10. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered - 368 votes (3%)
9. Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 - 371 votes (3%)
8. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth - 382 votes (3%)
7. Metaphor: ReFantazio - 624 votes (5%)
6. Black Myth: Wukong - 651 votes (5%)
5. Silent Hill 2 - 676 votes (5%)
4. Bronze Trophy: Helldivers 2 - 719 votes (6%)
It feels like a lifetime ago now, but we can't forget just how much of success story Helldivers 2 has been for Sony and Arrowhead Studios. The chaotic co-op shooter exploded onto the scene in February, and for a good couple of months or so, it was pretty much the hottest game on the planet.
Without question, Helldivers 2 has had its ups and downs since then, but it remains one of the heaviest hitting releases of 2024 — as indicated by its very respectful votes tally and its Bronze Trophy placement on this list.
Yet another win for democracy!
3. Silver Trophy: Stellar Blade - 832 votes (7%)
Despite being South Korean developer Shift Up's first console release, Stellar Blade ended up doing rather well for itself, didn't it? This bombastic sci-fi action title managed to strike a chord with a far wider audience than many would have anticipated.
Sony's marketing definitely helped in that regard, but let's take nothing away from Stellar Blade itself. Boasting a satisfying combat system, full of flashy parries and special moves, alongside great art direction and a, er, stellar soundtrack, Eve's adventure is right up there with the best action games of the generation.
2. Gold Trophy: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - 1,244 votes (10%)
In splitting Final Fantasy 7's remake into three parts, Square Enix gave itself a mountain to climb — but the good news is that it's somehow hitting all the right notes. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has cleaved its way to the Gold Trophy, and by some distance.
Rebirth is the middle part of a trilogy — and that shows in its often padded storytelling — but it does an outstanding job of adding depth and nuance to its core cast across this lengthy recreation. Cloud and co. are amazingly well realised throughout, as they're afforded time to endear themselves to the player — and each other — all over again.
Add an expanded combat system to the mix, along with way more room for exploration, and in many ways, this is the sequel that Remake needed. Bring on the finale!
1. Platinum Trophy: Astro Bot - 1,931 votes (15%)
Astro Bot is your PS5 Game of the Year — and the vote wasn't even close. Surely no one saw this coming!
For years, ever since the release of Astro Bot Rescue Mission — an undisputed PSVR gem — we've been lobbying for a full-blown Astro Bot platformer... and we finally got one.
Astro Bot is exactly what so many of us wanted it to be. It's both a celebration of PlayStation's storied history and a supremely polished, incredibly entertaining platformer in its own right. It really is a joyous release, and it's clearly struck a chord with fans of Sony's system.
Team Asobi absolutely crushed it with Astro Bot, to the point where we're left wondering about what could possibly come next. Honestly, improving on this is going to be ridiculously difficult — but right now, let's just sit back and appreciate this landmark PS5 exclusive in all of its glory.
Do you agree with the Push Square community's top 10 PS5 games of 2024? Are there any titles that you think have been overlooked? Thanks to everyone who voted, and do try to be nice in the comments section below.

I'm going to use this first comment to list some fun little stats from the poll!
Thanks again to everyone who voted!
I would flip Rebirth and Astro Bot. Not a bad list tho.
A really solid top 10! Bring on 2025 and the new releases.
Astro absolutely killed it this year. I can’t believe how much fun I had with this game. Cant wait for this years games!
Oh god, this'll set that AD Gaming guy off again, check out Push Square's facebook posts if you don't know who i'm referring to, and want a good laugh
I'm playing through Astro Bot now, it's just pure fun to play, the most inventive game that's been released in a good while, and as someone who's been craving a new Ape Escape game for literally decades at this point, that one level dedicated to it made me very happy, hopefully it's a sign of what might be to come ! (Wishful thinking i know lol)
Starting to get into Rebirth now. Just hit chapter 7 and am enjoying it a lot. Climbing towers to reveal POI on the map is still really lame though.
Funny that Metaphor and Rebirth traded places between the two lists. Who the flip voted for the last of us 2 remaster?
strong list that… well done square-pushers! 🙌
Annoying that Balatro missed out, but equally pleased that Failguard missed out...so it all balances out
Correct, as usual.
@Toadie @Toadie what a tool he is lol
The readers (customers) know best! 😇
I’m still not over the madness of FF7 getting 7th in the Push Square staff list.
The top four games are all fantastic (imho) and personally 2024 was a great year of gaming.
@rusty82 If that's what a 'true' gamer is like i'd rather be a filthy casual lmao
He'd hate to see my collection of games, 3D platformers make up most of it, i don't understand how anyone can dislike them ? He's missing out on some great games, long live Astro Bot !
Very solid list, readers! Astro bot is my number one for 2024, but I havent played all the games in the top 10 which I need to do at some point 🙂
I'd personally flip the top 2 (loved Rebirth and it may be my new favourite ff game) but both games are fantastic.
Also would have had Metaphor in the top 5, but it's a more niche genre, so even getting 7th is a great achievement and shows how well the game turned out.
All in all it's a great year for games and 2025 has the potential to be even better
@ShogunRok Thanks for the stats. I’m always curious to see behind the curtain.👍
I’m still a little sad “ Plucky Squire” never shows up in any of these, even after it was included day 1 on PS+ Extra. I guess it did kind of look and play like a Switch game. Maybe not as much as Astrobot.😂
I got GoW:R for Christmas, so maybe Christmas 2026 I’ll get Astrobot. Unless it’s on PS+ Extra first. I’d pay $15 to rent a 12 hour game for a month, not paying $50 or $60 to own it though. 🤷🏻♂️
So is this end of the “year in review” stuff? Sony has to show us Wolverine eventually. Unless they’re saving it for right after the Switch 2 reveal. Sony does seem to have a history of always trying to one up or out do Nintendo. (For those reading that incorrectly, no I’m not saying Wolverine will be on Switch 2, just that Sony will need to try and get some headlines once that console and it’s wave of “release window” titles gets announced. There’s always someone.)
Astro was uncontestedly my GotY, I haven’t had that much genuine fun with a game in a very long time. It knows what it is and it doesn’t try to do more than that. The fact that I can sit with my kids and play it certainly helps, but I’d have bought it even if I didn’t have them.
Black Mid Wukong being above Metaphor is a small but still unforgivable failure of democracy
Great to see Black Myth: Wukong get some recognition here, after being mysteriously absent from the staff list lol. I’m playing through it now on my Pro, and what a fantastic game with absolutely beautiful art direction and solid gameplay and exploration—really enjoying it!
But I guess we all agree that Astro Bot is the GOAT for PlayStation: Year 2024!
@Toadie Today I learned about the Facebook posts. Headed there now!
I think this is the first time the top 3 matches my top 3.
Slightly different order, but still.
@ShogunRok
Thanks for the extra stats in your comment - interesting to see DAV up there as Im having blast playing it (its my #2 for the year).
You could include these additional stats in the article, or a 2nd article - the top 10 is somewhat predictable (not that thats a bad thing), but 11-20 is quite interesting, at least for people like me! Only a suggestion.
Really happy to see that Days Gone won back in 2019 (before I was on here). That’s some mad contrast between reviewers and gamers… but a correct one imho.
I would bump Stellar Blade up a spot to replace FF7Rebirth, since Stellar Blade’s trophy list is practically perfect while FF7Rebirth’s is so incompetently curated the game’s own director had to publicly apologize for his miserable, selfish failure. That alone should bump FF out of podium position.
Sony first party has quite a streak going with the Push Square audience. 7 years and counting. At this rate Ghost of Yotei is a shoe-in for 2025.
Boooo! Rebirth robbed! Robbed I tell you! Stop the steal!
@Toadie can you educate us non social media users please?
@Toadie hate the term real gamer or casual gamer.
If you play games you are a gamer simple as that.
I personally think you can't beat a platform game. Especially a 3d platformer
@ErrantRob Grab some popcorn and enjoy haha
@PsBoxSwitchOwner it’s this one person going off that they’re a “real gamer” and that anyone that likes Astro like games for five year olds and aren’t real gamers. Any time someone gives any comment that completely shoots down their comments they just retort with Astro being for five year olds and that others are just whining cry babies.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner It's just this one guy who is going absolutely ballistic that Astro Bot is winning GOTY awards, he seems to despise the game for some odd reason, here's one of his comments -
"Push Square what?
No. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦
Of course we f*cking don’t.
It’s running and jumping for coins.
It’s nothing more than an interactive advertisement for PlayStation made for 5 year olds.
It’s a child’s toy.
Clearly you have no respect for gaming or gamers."
Literally everyone is ripping into him but no, they are all wrong and he is right lol
@rusty82 same mate, i just wish people would enjoy what they enjoy and let everyone else do the same, regardless of genre, age rating, console or company that made it, gaming is just another hobby at the end of the day, could you imagine people in other hobbies acting this way ? How dare you be into crochet, all crafters should be card-makers ! haha
Astro bot is number one.good choice.word up son
@Rich33 Thanks for the feedback, we've definitely considered putting additional stats in the article itself but the worry is it'll bloat things and maybe distract from the key information.
So the compromise is putting the stats in the top comment — but yeah, it's something to consider going forward if we can find a good way to format the info.
@rjejr We've got the most anticipated list (voted by the community) coming up tomorrow along with a GOTY round up, and then we're done with the GOTY stuff. Another one down!
That's a pretty convincing win and Astro Bot definitely deserves it.
My top 5 across all consoles are Astro Bot, Stellar Balde, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Tekken 8.
@ShogunRok
You are probably right about bloating the article.
In which case, and I hope you dont think im being rude, 1 idea for later consideration:
1. Publish an article containing 11-20 (all in bullet form only) "and other key takeaways" eg unusual results / participation etc.
2. Soon after, publish the 1-10 as you have done here.
(No idea if that would work as I dont know reading habits!)
Rescue Mission's inventiveness is still the biggest jaw drop Team Asobi have ever created but Astro Bot on PS5 is hard to find fault with and full to the brim with creativity.
It was certainly my favourite of the year.
@Odium @Toadie thanks for that
Last Gen I was Sony with PS4 pro. This gen went back to XboX (from 360 days) and absolutely loving the XboX releases and ecosystem... however ...
Even though I'm loving my Series X, I gotta admit, am seriously tempted to pick up a PS5 purely for Astro Bot.
Game looks fantastic and could easily be a console seller. Congrats Sony and thnx for the year PS staff and readers.
Hope it's a great gaming 2025 for all. Happy new year from 🇬🇧.
@ShogunRok
most anticipated list
GTA 6
@Toadie it's not that people dislike platform games. They are great. It's platform games have little strategy or autonomy on how you approach the game overall. The level design means you need to use particular abilities at predefined times. Your experience will mirror mine. It's why I believe they fell out of vogue.
The same can't be said for games with emergent gameplay, strategy, character builds or management aspects. So in that respect they are more childish, or rather, requires little long term planning for you to succeed.
I'm playing devil's advocate as Astrobot VR is one of my most beloved games. Celeste too. But I can understand the reasoning to a degree.
@ShogunRok I appreciate the stats but why not just show us the top 50 games as it does sound like an interesting list and one I think many people would read. No extra writing needed, just a plain list.
No Concord in the top ten?
Nice to see the top 2 where they should be.
Happy to see Stellar Blade in such a high position, even higher than Black Myth: Wukong. Stellar is my personal GOTY and it's on my personal top 3 ever.
Astro bot wasn't for me, i didn't finish it. But I'm eager to play FFVII Rebirth since I loved Remake.
It's a shame that Veilguard didn't make top 10. It has some weird design choices, like certain enemies and some of the art direction, but it's a seriously impressive game in places. It's probably the most fluid that Dragon Age has ever felt, and even as an RPG-Lite, it has some fantastic character building choices and mechanics.
I can't disagree much with the list all in all, though. Astrobot especially.
I'm just here to express my astonishment that ... Days Gone of all games won back in 2019. Are readers here really so biased towards first party titles?
The top 3 are all my favorite games!
Well done fellow readers 〜 I would switch Astro and Rebirth but that top 5 is solid!
