April's PS Plus Essential games have been revealed, and spoilers: not one, but two of Push Square's esteemed editorial team are positively livid that RoboCop: Rogue City is up for grabs, having just bought the bloody thing recently. You can thank us for that inclusion!
Indeed, 2023's RoboCop game is a bit of a banger — one of those AA titles that's just damn good fun to play. And that's especially true if you've got any kind of nostalgia for the most iconic cyborg copper of the 1980s.
Speaking of memorable movie franchises, Essential members are also getting The Texas Chain Saw Massacre — a Dead by Daylight-esque slice of multiplayer madness. Admittedly, this one didn't review quite so well, but at least its player count should get a nice boost off the back of this PS Plus inclusion.
And last but certainly not least, we've got Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory, which is some serious tonal whiplash after talking about RoboCop and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
This colourful JRPG is a great time for anyone who's into collecting countless creatures and engaging in turn-based battles. Well worth checking out even if you're not a fan of Digimon itself, because that taming and training gameplay loop is devilishly addictive.
But what do you think of April's PS Plus Essential games? As always, vote in our polls, and then give us your honest opinion in the comments section below.

There's definitely been worse months in recent times
All personal taste but none of these appeal to me
I own Robocop and TCM but if I hadn’t already purchased both I would’ve been ecstatic for this month.
Looking forward to trying robocop, but jeeez I've got more games to get through than eating hot dinners lol,but still I'd much rather have this issue than no choice at all all gd;)
I already platinum RoboCop but highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it. It's the RoboCop 3 we should have gotten
It's alright, I had robocop down to come to the service so happy with that but it feels like an extra game rather than an essential game which tend to be bigger titles.
Texas chainsaw massacre I have zero interest in, it's just another in the massive bloated list of multi-player only games given away on essential that will probably either go ftp or completely close servers soon enough.
Digimon I hear is a good game, but not really for me.
I've been humming and hawing about that Digimon game for years! Not sure if the gameplay would be something I'd like but I'll definitely give it a try now!
I already own Robocop not really bothered about the other two.
Robocop is an underrated blast, but I already own it. I might check out the Digimon game sometime though
Robocop rogue city for the win.word up son
It's a decent line up since, well, a year at least. But now I need to beat the first Cyber Sleuth before starting Hacker's Memory.
I don't know when I'll get round to it, but I'll definitely be playing Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory at some point. The first game was a big suprise for me.
@BamBamBaklava89 Same here, I own the Alex Murphy Edition on PS5, but haven't attempted a playthrough yet as I also purchased Terminator: Resistance and Annihilation Line at the same time and spent m time surviving there first 😎, yet TCM I have only played on Series X so looking forward to it on PS5.
after a long time I am happy, I was asking folks here about Robocop and almost bought it, so glad for that. And while I am not a totally digimon fan, I heard good thinks about this jrpg. finally a good month for me.
As usual nothing I want to play or haven't already played elsewhere (and no reason to play again just because it's on my PS5.)
If multiplayer wasn't held hostage behind the service I wouldn't have anything to do with any tier of plus.
Been playing kingdom come and to be honest I think I need a break. The metal gun slinger is a little treat.
Robocop alone makes it worth it.
Another month and another crap selection......... I bought Robocop at launch And have zero interest in the others.
I am hoping a few good games get added to the PS+ game catalogue this month to make up for it lol
I will play Robocop, very good offer, but I'm waiting for Digimon on Plus for YEARS!! Finally. Maybe they bring Nier Automata next...
@BNAG_Gamer Always a little confused by the 'I already bought it' criticism. I kinda get it if you're coming from the angle that it's always on sale. But if you bought it at launch, how's Sony supposed to know that (or Microsoft, or anyone offering a similar service, for that matter)? How is it Sony's problem that you buy games while subscribed to a service that supplements the need for buying games?
I personally do not subscribe to PS+ or Gamepass because I already buy an average of 2 games a month (mostly on sales) and don't know why I would need access to anything else. If you're going to buy games, you don't need these services. If you pay for them to regularly play online — okay, that sucks. I'm very annoyed that that practice is still common. But, still, you might as well try to keep buying to a minimum while subbed, at least if you're going to get upset about any overlap.
RoboCop was on my to buy list so, yes! Totally different, but gameplay videos reminded me of Alien: Isolation in a sense that it really pushes the same vibe as the movie the game is based on.
I entered the 40th level of my life last wednesday and it made me a bit nostalgic and this game might just be what I need.
Good month no doubt, but for me I just don’t care. Robocop seems fun and lots of folks like it, I loved Digimon Story when it came out but don’t feel any need to revisit and I couldn’t care less about a multiplayer dead by daylight spinoff thing.
A good month, just not for me.
Robocop is amazing
I have been close many times to picking up Rogue City, but haven't because backlog. So one game outta the three is good enough for me.
Well there are not "free", they are basically rentals that you have as long as you keep ps+. Essential is ok, since once you claim a game you can comeback to it at anytime as long as you have a subscription. The problem with extra is that it hard to find anything good to play, then once you do it's got a good likelihood of leaving the service. Premium looks good but most of the games are often ps2 or ps3 games that have been modified to work on the ps4/ps5 with minimal improvements. Outside of ps3 only titles your better of just buying the titles you want rather the stay subscribed to Premium. But for some reason if you owned the digital version of Legend of the Dragoon on the ps3, you suddenly own the ps4 version of Legend of the Dragoon, don't know why, and I believe it the only game were that works.
I picked up Robocop for Series X for like seven bucks late last year ONLY because of the weird cutscene bug the devs say they can’t/won’t fix on PS5. But now I can try it out on my generally-preferred console and see how much it WOULD have annoyed me!
I’m happy with this month. Don’t care about the massacre, but it’s good to see that Digimon game get some love and after having played part of Robocop, I’m VERY glad to see folks enjoy that one too. So good they got his original actor to voice Murphy!
Robocop is GREAT Play it!!
No, not really.
I'd be happier if i hadn't bought RoboCop in the last sale
Wow 29 comments and not a single one informing us of the person decision to cancel their ps plus subscription
I am shocked
I bought RoboCop and in one level you had to retrieve a key card from a table. Every time I go in the room the table gets destroyed and the key card disappears. Is it a bug as I can't complete that stage?
Always great when a game you would purchase comes up. Robocop for me.
It's a fun game. Love the atmosphere
I have been going for 100% in Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition this past week, and my initial reaction to this list of PlayStation Plus Essential games is as the Nopons would say, “Meh, meh..”
Robocop is PEAK I am grateful for this even thou I already played it.
My actual subscription ends midnight into 1st April so I may get to claim the games before it ends but cdkeys have Robocop for steam for £6.99 so I'll get it from there instead
