Well, the time has finally arrived. Astro Bot is out now on PS5, following months of hype and, just this week, a tidal wave of ridiculously high-scoring reviews. As of writing this article, the PlayStation Studios exclusive is the highest rated game of 2024 so far, sitting incredibly pretty at a jaw-dropping 94 on Metacritic. It's been worth the wait, it seems.
"Astro Bot is a stunning 3D platformer, and easily among the best games in PS5's library," we exclaimed in our full Astro Bot PS5 review. We continued: "With tons to see and do, almost endless fresh ideas, innovative use of the DualSense's features, and truly charming presentation, it's a confident and cohesive experience that players of all ages will love".
"It's a perfect game to celebrate PlayStation's 30th anniversary, reflecting on the myriad series that made the platform what it is today," we concluded. What more could you possibly want? It's an unspeakably rare Push Square 10/10, by the way.
But that's enough of our gushing. We want to know if you're playing Astro Bot. So vote in our poll, and then tell us all about your wonderous weekend plans in the comments section below, which could be further enhanced with our Astro Bot PS5 guide.

Yes to everything. This game looked perfect since we laid eyes on it and playing it we just as great as hoped
It's just pretty perfect for what it tries to do
Game of the year!
Sure, I always appreciate a good 3D plattformer
Just got my physical copy and its installing to my PS5 now. Going to have a blast this weekend!
@roe I think you along with everyone else has missed that the second question is a double negative - it's basically saying "are you surprised it's brilliant?" And everyone is answering "yes" which means you are surprised it's brilliant, which makes it's bad. "no" I'm not surprised it's brilliant is the right answer
I already got Visions of Mana and Gundam Break 4 and won't be able to afford another game this month so sadly, I'm gonna miss out but I do want to try this in the future. For now, I think I'll settle with Astro's playroom, lol
As for the 2nd question, I'm actually surprised with the positive ratings it's getting but I am happy for Astro Bot. This is the kind of game we need more of and I'm really hoping the success of this game would lead to more platformers from Sony.
Still waiting on my copy to arrive from Amazon.
I can't wait to play it, though!
PS: Are you playing Astro Bot?
Me: Is that a question?
Yes, and its sublime. Certainly a GOTY contender in my eyes!
This is one of THE best platform games I've played. And it's a gem. Gives Nintendo's Mario a good run for its money. I am loving it.
I'm on a limited budget so i don't want to plonk £55 on a game, and I could buy it physically, play it, and sell it and get a good portion back for it, but I think this will be a game I'd want to keep for the collection, so it would make sense to wait for the game to drop to around £30. It's gonna be a long wait 😭
@redd214 GOTY for sure.
Crazy. I love it. A game purely focused on FUN! No other crazy nonsense.
I hope this game breaks all the records. This is what we need. The world is healing
I will get it on a later time, I just relocated to another country and I need to save some money. the physical copy is for 68€ so it is a bit much atm for me (considering the huge backlog of games I have).
@Blofse I knew it would be great but it feels like it surpasses even the greatest of expectations. This really is a game that you run out of superlatives for imo
The second question is a bit of an odd one tbh. It feels both inevitable and surprising at the same time if that makes any sense 😂
Went into Smyths toys Crayford and they said they’d sold 16 copies of the game already, which made me smile.
I bought digitally to play on TV and PlayStation Portal
Just over 3 hours in and I can't stop smiling. The inventiveness of the developers is off the chart. I hope this sells millions.
Yeah I'll definitely play it — don't think I really wanna drop sixty notes on it, but I'll definitely get round to it once my 3-6 month backlog makes room for it
So jealous of you all!! 👊
My daughter and me are gonna destroy this game. ( in a good way lol)
Have to save money so I'm not playing until November. But I am very excited to hop in once I am able!
Playing right now, taking my time 100% each level as I move forward.
Playing it in little bursts and making little .gifs as I go 😁
If anyone wants the Bloodborne one for their Avatar, go ahead, I have no personal experiences with that game, but it is definitely a cool Bot costume worthy of display for someone who does 😁
trying to convince the Mrs. to get and play it with me this weekend, hopefully my persuasive abilities are sufficient
Already completed the first set of worlds!
@Ravix When i realized i can make the bots bounce on the controller i giggled like a little girl
As someone who grew up with nintendo, in my mid 40s, what little I got to play this morning before work had me grinning ear to ear
It's pure gaming bliss.
I didn't realise it, but I think the last time I felt this much joy playing a game was either Mario 64 or og Spyro.
More single players games please PlayStation
Just finished live streaming for a friend, who was curious... I've just sold another copy - commission please Sony!
Finished the first world and finding all bots and puzzles. But what about that song in Crash Site... 🥰🥰
Yes, I was off today so I bought it this morning, but I was under orders to wait until my son got home from school before starting it.
Kept myself occupied by getting the secret bots in Astro's Playroom instead. Everyone's a winner.
Enjoying it so far. It’s just there’s always the sense that there’s a dimension missing.
We need more creative games that put a smile on your face while playing. This game is pure happiness!
Not yet and it's pain. I wish they'd break street date here as easily as they seem to do everywhere else
Only bought two brand new games this year so far. Helldivers 2 I regret, is just not for me and I had feeling that would be the case, and Astro Bot which I told my 8 year daughter was for her (as playroom is her favourite game) but it's secretly for me. I thought Ratchet and Clank was my go to platformed, but this has now over took it. Completed first level to max. I was just so fun and I will be jumping back on later
I'm still a few minutes to end my job turn and the only thing I can think right now is get to home and play Astro Bot.
Based on the reception of playroom alone, I think we could tell that the full game would be an absolute smash hit. Super excited to get stuck into it this weekend!
Loving the game so far, just completed the first world and now I want a new Ape Escape game so bad.
Waiting for my nephew to get here, then away we go! I also got the controller today, too.
Was looking forward to getting this when I thought it was $50 for some reason, then after like 2 weeks some nice person on here let me know it was $60, then I found it out it was only a 12 -15 hour game, the type I usually borrow from the library for a week, so I've decided to wait. 🤷♂️
The waiting was made easier by Sony deciding this was a good month to put "The Plucky Squire", a $30 game, on $15 per month PS+ Extra, so I signed up for a month of that. So I now have plenty to play while I wait for a holiday sale on Astro Bot. Still need to get the secrets in Playroom as well.
If this was couch co-op like "Sackboy's Adventure" it probably would have been day 1, which reminds me I still have "Cat Quest 3" to play w/ my wife, bought that day 1 on disc for $20 (had $10 credit at Best Buy) about a month ago.
I used to be one of those "$1 per hour" gamers but b/c of inflation I'm now a "$2 per hour" gamer. 🤑
I want to see Playstation make more games like these. Playstation needs to be more like Nintendo.
This really feels like it could be a Mario game from Nintendo
I’ve finished the first world. Then struggled to put the controller down. But I don’t want to rush through it too fast.
It’s fantastic however I did have Astro freeze on me where he wouldn’t move :/
Believe the hype. It's pure fun. Me and my wife taking turns on our own profiles both blown away by it and grinning like loons lol
Pre-ordered the game as I know it's gonna be good and I want to support games/devs like this.
But I did NOT expect how overwhelmingly great the game and the responses are.
Just finished a brutally hard fight in Baldur's Gate 3 so I think Astro Bot is the perfect game to forget all that
I was playing this but now I know it's live service I want it banned!
This is...so much joy. Just joy. I was gonna play CoDBlops beta. But no, need joy.
I wouldn’t be surprised if my son beat the game while I’ve been at work today. He asked me to wake him up at 4 am, so we could start the game before I left and I wouldn’t be surprised if I came home to see him still playing it. Of course I’m playing too!
Not atm because admittedly I'm glued to Beat Saber. I also want to play Astro Bot Rescue Mission on PSVR again followed by Astro's Playroom which I didn't bother with before starting this.
Not playing it but it’s installed on my PS5 (currently on holiday with the wife and kids 😊)
Dam right I'm playing.
Waited till the kids went to school, downloaded and off I went.
Seeing as I had 2 hours sleep as I work nights.
I waited for the mrs to go off and do her things pretended to go bed and snuck in and did the first couple of levels.
I nean seriously when was the last time we had a triple a platformer? You just dont get them anymore, only rare occasions and that dualsense, it just baffles me why no other games are doing this in their games. It just seems like a no brainer when you play astro
@riceNpea The live service article was about Astro Playroom not Astro Bot.
@UltimateOtaku91 and he was being sarcastic either way.
I would if I could, my copy will arrive on Thursday.
@UltimateOtaku91 @PSboxswitchowner gets it 😆👍
@riceNpea Sorry, had a blonde moment.
@UltimateOtaku91 😆 that whole article is one
@riceNpea Yeah just commented on it, it baffles me they don't know the difference between single player games getting updates vs a live service.
I will definitely be playing it soon.astro bot always looks awsome.and no i knew astro bot was going to be that good and receive a really high score.word up son
I was hoping to play it today but unfortunately my copy wasn’t delivered so having to wait which has been painful
It’s sooo good. I’ve got to admit I was initilally planning to wait for a sale and buy Space Marine 2 instead but the reviews swayed me and I’m so happy they did. I don’t usually have the attention span for a platinum but I might go for it with Astro Bot because it is just such silly fun and it respects my time like no other game I have played in a long while. There’s literally no filler so far, everything feels purposeful.
Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that it sells well. I bought it digitally and physically so let’s hope everyone else does the same.
Played it today before the football game and it’s incredible so far. I expected it’d review well, but I didn’t expect it to be the highest rated game of the year (other than the Elden Ring expansion). Stoked to play more!
Whole family is getting together around it. My favorite kind of release!
I'm absolutely enjoying every second of it, I feel like I'm in the 90s again during simpler times. It's also very beautiful, it's not the most advanced graphics in the world but everything that's on screen is polished to perfection! Fantastic job Team ASOBI 💯
Bought the game and controller.
Controller looks great, box it came in, very cheap looking.
Game is a 7/10 so far for me, great humor, looks good, sound from the controller is probably the best I've heard, motion control is not for me, but.... Not a game I'm rushing home to play though.
Its about time playstation put out something more friendly to people of all ages. I hope we can see more games like this from Sony in the future. Might even hook my nephew who only plays Nintendo games.
@Shepherd_Tallon
Exactly how I felt playing Mario 64 for the first time, this game is fun in a way I haven’t experienced since I first played that in 96.
@riceNpea "I was playing this but now I know it's live service I want it banned!" 😂
I stayed up much too late drinking with some family tonight. And this is exactly the kind of sarcasm that makes me chuckle when I've been up too late drinking.
@aj102404 Right?
I'm having so many flashbacks to the 90s as I play this. It's been so long since a cute platformer blew my mind.
@TrickyDicky99 it's gone down was £20 in last article? Awwww what's a matter saying £20 not get you enough attention?
@Shepherd_Tallon thanks, mate. Hope you don't get a hangover 😊
Naturally - everyone with a PS5 should.. unless, of course, they're only into the generic crappy open world ***** that Sony has released over the last 4 years or so!
Three levels in and I'm 100% sure it's game of the year.
@Old-Red 100% agreed. My whole family loves it. Pure fun
I just replayed Astro Bot Rescue Mission on PSVR. What an extraordinary game.
So off course, I bought the new one, VR or not ^^
Of course I am playing. My first full price purchase ever. It is a bit easy for me but still engaging and charming. Trunk of Funk soundtrack is brilliant. It can be a live service game too. Joking.
This is a special, magical game.
Best on PS5 imho.
@hypnotoad I'm in agreement there and don't think we'll be alone in thinking that.
I wasn’t going to pick this up, I liked playroom as an introduction to the PS5, but thought a full game would be too much for me. However, I couldn’t ignore those reviews and caved yesterday.
And man am I so happy I did. This really is a new standard, it’s made with so much love and charm it practically oozes (or rumbles) its way off the screen. After feeling a bit down in the dumps for a while, this was the exact pick-me-up I needed, I’m smiling the second I pick up that controller, and can’t wait to jump back in. So thanks Astro! I needed that 😀
I'll pick it up later on when it's cheaper I refuse to pay more than £50 for a game I'm not impatient and have other games I can play while I wait
Not yet Game failed to delivery it yesterday and still hasn’t arrived yet
@TrickyDicky99 your name's accurate if we ignore the tricky part 😂
I would be playing it but Game have not sent my pre order out 😡
The best 3D platformer since Astro Bot Rescue Mission on PSVR for PS4.
I was never in doubt this would be amazing.
My game of the year so far.
It's a fantastic game, well worth the score it has received. I have so much fun with it and I get the same feeling as when I played Super Mario 64 for the first time from time to time in this game (and that should tell you a lot). It's definitely a game that is going to get replayed several times along the years to come. I really do hope that they release an expansion with a couple of new Worlds before the sequel comes out to bless us gamers with more pure gaming fun.
I’ll catch it on a sale, $60 is way too much for this
Sometimes I feel dumb to not recognize the references. I get it for Bloodborne or Ratchet&Clank, but most of the time the game is reminding me that I grew up with Nintendo instead of PS.
I will tomorrow when my copy arrives. Amazon waited til after release to send mine sadly.
