Capcom's rather unorthodox action game, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, is out now on PS5 and PS4. In it, you essentially play as a shrine maiden's bodyguard, as she attempts a pilgrimage across the land. Structurally, the title's broken up between levels, and gameplay revolves around having to protect your elegant ally against demonic threats — but important strategic elements mean that there's more to the release than just hacking and slashing.
The game's been quite highly rated by critics, and it would seem that Capcom's created another hit. In our Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess PS5 review, we wrote: "It might not feel quite as new as its billing, but Kunitsu-Gami is still a lovely little game, with a seriously engrossing hook that'll have you wishing it was longer than it actually is." We gave it a solid 7/10 in the end.
But will you be playing Capcom's latest release? As always, vote in our poll, and then explain your stance in the comments section below.

There is no physical release you and I'm busy so I'll wait for a massive discount. Digital is not worth the full price.
Ouch, this game looked neat but there are a lot of games I want to play and so little time. Hopefully someone plays it
I enjoyed the demo but not enough to dive into it. I think I’ll wait for the inevitable PS+ drop, or a discount. I wanted to like it more than I did, but I’m
Sure I’ll be in the mood sometime for it
Game doesn't look good to me. Hard pass
Nah playa.im chilling with my huge backlogs of video games that im playing.word up son
I’ll be giving it a try in the coming weeks as it is on GP.
No. I get the feeling Capcom just sent this out to die so they could prove no one wants new ideas from them.
I likely would have gotten it, but multiplatform games releasing straight onto Game Pass devalue themselves too much in my eyes. It makes me feel like I'd waste my money by paying full price, but I don't want to really play it on Game Pass, because I prefer playing on Playstation when I have the option to. I'll get it when it's cheaper, at some point
Loved the demo and will be playing on GamePass but Flintlock and, especially, Dungeons of Hinterberg are getting most of my time right so far this week. Too many games to play!
I haven’t played it yet, but I plan on playing it in the near future. It seems like a game that is right up my alley, and something different from the games I’ve been playing as of late.
It's only 40 bucks on fanatical (pc) quite tempted..
The demo sold me. Before that I had decided it wasn’t for me. As soon as I wrap up a game or two I’m buying it at full price so I can put my money where my mouth is in supporting new ideas, even if I don’t play it right away.
It’s on Game Pass I think. I might try on there.
When nearly 50% of answers are basically either "too busy" or "don't care", you have to ask yourself if this poll is even necessary? Most likely someone on staff has a soft spot for this game and is trying to hype it up or something?
Tried the demo, and dropped it instantly since it had scratchy sound pushed through the controller that you couldn't turn off. That's an instant fail in my book. I really can't stand it.
I liked it. Thank god for Capcom being Capcom. I’ll be playing it on Gamepass til my sub runs out. Might be the best game on the service yet this year.
I love the demo. It's fun but in the same time it feels unique and fresh, the type of games that gaming industry really needs right now after years of swimming in the sea of bloated AAA open world, live service-gatcha, remakes / remaster / reboot, and yearly sport games.
Although, looking at the poll, my guess is it wouldn't sell well since most gamers nowadays only wants big budget games or games with tried and true formula then complaint why gaming companies doesn't take risk to make new IP with fresh ideas anymore.
I was planning on day 1 buy. But sadly there's no physical release, which is weird since Capcom always has one for their niche games like Ghost Trick, Ace Attorney, or Okami well except Strider 2014. So, i'll probably wait until next month if somehow Capcom has a limited physical release for Japan / Asia. But if not then i'll grab my 50 bones for PSN gift cards.
C'mon capcom, give your baby a physical release and I'll get one copy.
Played the demo. Not bad! But not for now.
@Enuo they don't need to prove anything to anyone. Of course they want every game to be a success; otherwise they wouldn't green light it in the first place.
It looks interesting, but is interesting enough when I am drowning in other games I want to play is the question?
I’m playing it and I love it! It just really clicked with me
Tried it on gamepass and this game forced me to buy new speakers: even on maximum volume it barely whispers.
I will definitely check it out at some point
No physical=no play
@Enuo Back in 2016, Capcom president said, creating new IP is the cornerstone of their business. That's why they put 20% of their development budget towards creating new IP while maintain their long running franchise.
https://powerupgaming.co.uk/2016/12/21/capcom-to-focus-more-on-the-creation-of-original-ip-cornerstone-of-business/
Since that statement, we've seen 3 new IP from them; Exoprimal which unfortunately a flop, Pragmata looks promising but got delayed without release date, and Kunitsu-Gami who so far got pretty positive reviews (79% at metacritic) but don't know how well it will sell.
And there's no big release for this week which means Kunitsu-Gami will get a good spotlight from gaming media and mainstream audiences. Capcom themself put good advertising like a cool colaboration with Japan National Bunraku Theatre.

So i don't believe your statement that Capcom made these new IP but they want to see them failed just to prove something. That just doesn't makes any sense with Capcom track records who created tons of new IP's that became sucessful and important pillars for the company. IP's like SF, RE, DMC, MH, Mega Man, Dino Crisis, Onimusha, Dead Rising, Final Fight, etc all started as a new IP before they became big and popular franchise.
I don't know. I'll likely play it a little later, just not yet.
I really want to support weird Capcom, but I don't have the disposable income rn. Of course, I'd find it if they'd give Marvel a frickin' release date, grumble grumble...
As a big fan of Japanese art and mythology this game has piqued my interest ever since it was announced. However, I was pretty disappointed when I found out that it is a strategy RPG/tower defence game as I tend to avoid that genre (generally don’t have the patience nor time to learn the deeper mechanics found in such games).
Boy am I glad they released a demo for this game as it totally won me over! The novelty of the maiden being a moving target across the map, together with the hack and slack segments, really appealed to me. The art style in the environments and menus inspired by ukiyo-e (woodblock prints) are absolutely gorgeous, and are complemented by an understated soundtrack and cool sfx. The foreboding sound that plays as the sun begins to set matches the atmosphere so well!
Before I knew it I was hooked on the demo and getting into a real rhythm with the day-night cycle. Any game that absorbs me like that and allows me to experience the “flow” state deserves a purchase.
That being said, I can appreciate if people will wait for a sale on this one. Fortunately I have a Japanese PSN account as well as an Australian one because the price discrepancy is ridiculous (5,000ÂĄ vs AUD $74.95!). Considering the current exchange rate I basically saved AUD $25 up front by purchasing the game on my Japanese account.
If they release a physical copy or special limited edition I will happily double dip to support this game. Can’t wait to get stuck into it later this weekend!
Yep and watching evo at the same time. All weekend!
Fun game.
@Flaming_Kaiser all with you there. I won’t buy until a physical release
I played the demo and I liked it but didn't love it so I'll probably get it in a sale. I'm sure it will fly under the radar with its unique theme. I feel like capcom could make an identical game with a resident evil theme and it will sell like hotcakes.
@Dudeitsme One thing is for certain when it's a digital only future nothing will be bought on day for full price here.
1) digital only so not paying full price for that crap
2) pushsquare gave DD2 a 9/10 while the game was very shallow and this is only a 7/10 by them so I'm definitely concerned with how much worse it is
