Remaking a beloved game from a series that's long since lost its way can't be easy, but the day of Silent Hill 2's revival is upon us. Many were sceptical of this project given Konami's treatment of its once classic franchise, but the remake has actually gone down incredibly well.
"Bloober Team has faithfully and respectfully recreated one of the survival horror genre’s all-time greats, modernising Silent Hill 2 in all the right ways," we beamed in our Silent Hill 2 PS5 review. "There were concerns in the lead-up to release, but Silent Hill 2 speaks for itself: a spectacular experience that once again represents survival horror at its best," we concluded, awarding the remake an 'excellent' 9/10.
But are you playing Silent Hill 2? Have the reviews convinced you to try it out, or were you always going to give this revival a fair shake? Vote in our polls, and then break your silence in the comments section below.

Just got home from GameStop with my copy!
I'm by no means a horror fan but I'm glad I played the first 2 silent hill games just to have experienced them. I wouldn't mind playing the remake but I can happily wait a long time, like 2 years down the line when it's cheap/on a subscription.
What I'd really like, is a remake of The Suffering.
really enjoying my time with it so far looking for all the collectibles and not using the radio for this playthrough
One of the best remakes I’ve ever played. Legitimately scary as hell too, some of these new enemies are like :0
My copy came today.
I'll do the same thing I did in 2001 - Walk from the car to the town, freak out over the vibe, turn it off and not play it for five years 🤷
@Shepherd_Tallon mine came today too… I may not even make it to the car though 😱
Loved every second of this game. Between this and Wukong the last few months have been insane. Can’t wait to start Metphor and Dragon Age, this year really turned it around after some dead zones.
Not yet, but I will in the future. Just to many games coming out these months.
Never played a Silent Hill game before but I am absolutely loving this so far. Potential GOTY for me if the rest of the game holds up like the first 2 hours.
No. Ive got it installed but im too scared to start it.😂😂 I dont know why i bother to buy games like this as i cant even get through a Resident evil game. Im literally the world's biggest wuss.
Yeah, I’m playing it. So far it’s pretty solid. I just got past the Blue Creek Apartments and had a terrifying encounter with the iconic Pyramid Head. I’m glad I finally get to experience this game for the very first time.
In my restless dreams I see my backlog.
Just got back from GameStop, installing now!
Played the Enhanced Edition for the first time a couple years ago and it instantly became an all-timer. Can't wait to dive in; happy to see it got the love and care it deserves!
This is one of the biggest surprises in my gaming history. Bloober Team remaking SIlent Hill 2 always sounded like a recipe for disaster, but they actually pulled it off. I'm shocked.
In the middle of Dead Space now but this one is next.
Ordered mine from France and it's still in transit 0_0
I’ll be picking up my copy today but won’t be starting it until Monday. I consider the original an offbeat, horror masterpiece. So very excited for this!
Got to wait for it to arrive from Amazon France as I got it for 22 quid weeks ago
I loved the original SH and Shattered Memories. Never played any other in the series. I will get to buying this but I just barely started FF7 Rebirth. This year has been busy!
Currently playing and enjoying immensely so far, very faithful to the original which I played and finished 2 years ago. A remake done right, kudos to Bloober and Konami, hopefully a return to form for the latter!
I've just got to the hospital and I'm loving the game. I did play the original back on the PS2 and this remake is utterly fantastic so far being both familiar and expanding upon it in smart ways, woth some nice little Easter eggs too
No rush for me personally as I played the OG on PC years ago, but I will buy this later - definitely want to have it in my collection
Really looking forward to it more than I thought I would. My disc arrives tonight.
Currently, I have about zero free time to play games, and I haven’t even finished Casting of Frank Stone, but I think I’ll get to it next week. I’ve never played the original, I actually have no idea what it’s about. I only saw the movie, a long time ago. I hope it’ll be good.
Just two hours in but... Oh man this is so good
Might see what this runs / looks like on Pro (if they enhance it) before I make a decision.
I've enjoyed all of blooper's games, i genuinely don't understand the ***** they get. Silent Hill 2 is one of my favourite games of all time I couldn't imagine anyone else to tackle this.
Sadly Amazon have only just delivered it so i wont be playing today😭
My only criticism is "early access" is scum
SH2 was amazing, yet 3 was always my favorite. I'd love to see a remake of it and SH4 too. Plan on getting this most likely next month
Just finished my first playthrough last night. Such a great experience to play thru. Now doing new game plus and having a blast.
I am going to save it as a Halloween treat!
It may be the finest remake in the world, but for me the best thing about Silent Hill 2 is the story and plot twists. And I already know all of them. So yeah, this just isn't for me.
No, I think the original game is one of the true greats, but I'm not drawn to a remake. While I don't begrudge the new game or anyone's appreciation of it, I think the absence of an easily available means to play the original on new consoles is a real shame. Playing Signalis for this first time at the moment, it's really good.
I will in the near future. Still have a lot of games in my backlog.
Still waiting on game to be delivered. I ordered a bundle with a Steelbook. Really was hoping the game would have unlockable or DLC skins for James and Maria based on the original designs.
Got the game, I would be playing it if I had a ps5.
The first three Silent Hill are all masterpieces.
Not yet but i will definitely will buy it.we are in 🎃 halloween month.word up son
It’s on my wishlist, but so are about 25 other titles (only got back into Playstation being my main gaming platform a few weeks ago). Too busy picking up my jaw from the floor playing Horizon FW, but I am very happy to see so many folks here enjoying SH2R.
Fired it up for a few minutes this afternoon.
Playing on PC.
There seems to be some slight traversal stutter from tile to time, but, man that run down to Silent Hill still feels unsettling as I remembered (the sound design is really well done).
I really want to hang on for the weekend, im so close to finishing Blasphemous and i know it will end up on the backlog if i dont. Really looking forward to it!
I don’t know what I’m doing. Am I waiting for pro? Maybe. I’m watching dick turpin
@Shepherd_Tallon The ONLY way to play a horror game!
I Mean, I want to.
I just don't "$69.99 want to," if yah know what I mean.
Nah. I snagged a preorder of Metaphor: ReFantazio for cheap ($40). I'll be focusing on that and other games in my backlog for the time being.
Will definitely pick up SH2R when the game is patched and price has gone down a bit, though.
@Shepherd_Tallon Mate, I wish I could experience those levels of immersion. I think I'm dead inside, lol. VR must be the absolute nightmare for you with horror games.
YES. I mean, I WILL be playing it this weekend once my copy arrives and I have actual time…
Yes I will be soon I can’t wait, actually a bit giddy lol (haven’t even been drinking)
@Shepherd_Tallon " Walk from the car to the town, freak out over the vibe, turn it off and not play it for five years"
Im fully expecting to do the same. I mean, i didnt even boot it up tonight lol.
@dschons If I'm not paralyzed by fear playing a horror game or watching a horror movie I'm legit disappointed.
It can be a nuisance though - I couldn't finish Alien Isolation for example - Was walking down a corridor, did a quick 180 and walked straight into the android I didn't realise had been following me.
I had instant muscle spasms in my neck and chest and haven't played the game since 🫠
As for horror in VR, I haven't been brave enough yet 😂
@Kidfunkadelic83 @colonelkilgore
Same 😂
I've been playing Diablo and telling myself I'll start Silent Hill in five minutes for about three hours.
The original Silent Hill 2 is absolutely incredible. Will definitely be getting the remake.
SH2R is good so far but whats up with size of stuff. The newspaper boxes are the size of fridges, but the fridges are minuscule. James either looks like a giant or a midget depending on the room he’s in.
Nah, not much of Silent Hill person unfortunately.
No, and zero interest, don't like survival horror games at all
I'll be honest. When Silent Hill came out back on the PS One I didn't play it because I was massively into Resident Evil, and the bits of SH I played at a friend's seemed incredibly clunky in comparison so I didn't give it a fair chance.
Several years on, I think it's time to dive in and see what the hype is about, with many more years experience of playing games and survival horror titles in the bag.
I'll pick it up on sale at some point as there is just too much too play currently, and nowhere near enough time
Loved the original and I'll certainly give this a look at some point. Just started Bloodborne again recently, so that's enough stress for now
Too many games in my backlog and not enough money, so I gotta wait for a sale unfortunately.
@Shepherd_Tallon completely different ballgame in vr , I remember when I first played resi 7 in vr , now I love horror films and horror games , watched everything , played everything , but vr, good god , I could smell the blood , my 78 year old mum even had a go at the kitchen demo, I thought I was getting the family home sooner than expected 😂😂
My answers are not an option.
I am not gonna play it because I am too afraid of that stuff. But I am sure that it's a masterpiece.
I’m going to be playing it, but… Sparking Zero is getting the attention first. My plan is basically playing Sparking Zero until it’s a casual experience then the Metaphor demo to see if this is finally the Atlus game for me (sorry, but I’ve always struggled with 100+ hour games, but I try every Atlus game at least) and then Silent Hill 2, which I know will be fantastic, and, if I’m entertained by the demo, back to Metaphor then.
Gonna be really interesting if they kept all the crazy endings.
@Shepherd_Tallon First time using PSVR, I played Resident Evil 7 at my mate's. First time playing that title, too- though I'm no stranger to Resi games (although, playing 2 as a kid terrified me). In any case, it was like being a kid again. Freaked me right the **** out, and I had to put it down again, haha
There's too much out, and too much to catch up on. I would love to play it on a spooky night w my teenagers, but $$$.
@J2theEzzo @Shalooda
😂
I couldn't do it. I have Resi 7 and I have PSVR, I just could never bring myself to do it.
That Kitchen Demo in VR would definitely knock a few years off my life 😂
@BecauseBecause Dude YES, I second a Remake/Remaster (hell, I'll take PS2 Classics Ports) of "The Suffering"
There was also the direct sequel "The Suffering: Ties That Bind" don't know what the general consensus on that one is (especially among the fanbase) but might as well do both 🤷♂️
GameStop shipped my copy via snail mail, so eagerly looking forward to it!
Still working my way through SH1. Then it's all about Metaphor: ReFantazio for the foreseeable future. Might pick up SH2R after that, but more likely I'll postpone it until the first sale.
Just bought wukong last month and this month Lego set of mario and yoshi. Including some of my first two aquascape tank. Perhaps a little bit late for SILENT HILL 2. Overspending this months lol
@J2theEzzo i really love RE7. Playing on normal console is terrifying enough, cant imagine playing it on VR lol. One of the most anxiety inducing game i ever played. Especially cat and mouse chasing between ethan and bakers and marguerite boss fight lol
I will be playing it tomorrow night or this weekend. Hoping for a patch, because I hear its a stuttering mess on PC.
Just ordered the game yesterday and it will be shipped on Friday or Monday. Until then, I play the original game on PS2 to make the time go by quicker
@Shepherd_Tallon i started playing RE Village in PSVR2 over the weekend and, yeah, that was a bit intense. I went back to Arizona Sunshine 2 after an hour to lighten the mood. I actually think the gunplay is better in AS2, it feels a bit light in REV, but REV looks so good, fantastic use of HDR
Of course I'm playing, was eagerly waiting for it since it was announced.
Quite a thrill to be back in SH2 after so many years!
Got my hands on the wooden plank and started roaming the
town. Right away that famous quote popped
up in my head: "Let us cleanse these foul streets!" - fits perfectly!
If only SH2 had the same type of messaging mechanic, would have been awesome ^__^
Anyway, I'm in Wood Side Apartments for now, progressing steadily.
Epic Remake, bravo Bloober Team, congrats for winning the
up-that-silent-hill battle, and beating the odds!
@DrVenture69 I need to start AS2 actually.
It looks like more of fun time than a scary time.
I reckon I'd be okayish for most of REV too actually, until the dollhouse. Then I'd be wrecked 😂
@MrRhysReviews I played the sequel but I think it felt a bit underwhelming, perhaps it was just more of the same with nothing new about it. I can't really remember!
@Shepherd_Tallon AS2 is so much fun, I play half an hour of horde mode every couple of days. I think I’ve played more horde mode than the single play, and I never do that! The remake of the original is out in a week or so too
@BecauseBecause Yeah, I believe that was the case exactly. It was pretty much just more of the same and picked up literally where the original ended (arriving back to the mainland after taking the boat at the end. Like from the "Good Ending" or whatever as I just remembered it had multiple endings actually 😅)
@RBMango After that first frankly terrible trailer I thought no way they pull this off. Now here we are with what is one of the best remakes ever and I couldn't be happier
Continued financial woes mean no new full price games for me. Wish me luck on the job hunt!
But if I had the cash I would've been all over this day one!
@DrVenture69 It has a horde mode???
I hadn't realised. I can see myself killing a lit of Sunday afternoons in that.
@Mintie best of luck! Ive been there, hopeful you’ll get something even better than your last one🙂. Your name always reminds me if a character in Spaced😄
@Mintie Good luck out there!
I'm planning to play it down the line. It looks so great though!
I pre orded it an now a few hours in and really enjoying it
@Nei ha nice
Definitely grabbing it soon. Understand SH2 is regarded as the best SH game and I'd agree with that but still a little puzzled as to why they couldn't start with an SH1 remake first as that one is also just as good
I snagged it pretty cheap on amazon.fr, downside is that delivery will take a week longer then usual. Was sceptical at first from the first preview videos, but after the latest gameplay reveals was pretty convinced that it'll be good. Also have no high stakes in it. I played it in the past on PS2 and PC but it wasn't my cup of tea then (unlike part1). So I'm really looking forward playing it with a fresh twenty year later perspective
@Paulbuck28 you can turn it off? I couldn’t handle that! It’s keeping me on my toes!
@Carnictis yeah one of the trophies requires a playthrough without using the radio
I really want to but gotta wait for payday.
I'll probably get blasted for this but I remember preferring 1 and 3 and Downpour over 2. Played them all as they released on each console. Gone back to 1 a few times but had no intention of ever re-doing 2. I wasn't that interested in the remake but heard it has had a lot of changes, been expanded upon, order of story beats changed etc. so I purchased it last night. I had planned to wait and see for a performance patch but I'm happy to support a launch with hopes of, at least, the original being remade.
Probably will play when it's on sale or in sub. Played original and was not so impressed as to play it again now.
@Shepherd_Tallon . Haha that’s me too. Would love to play a bunch of horror , but t can’t deal with horror. That plus I live in a 300 year old cottage in the middle of nowhere. What a sap I am
I really want to play this - I remember the original with fondness.
Unfortunately, PTSD has become a thing in my life and I'm not sure my system will take it any more - doh! I now can't watch many of my fave films or play scary games.
nvm, we have been blessed with so many great games this year, I'm not going to be wanting...
Tried to order it online from Very and they don't have it listed. Amazon have sold out all their stock of the game. Just checked Argos and they're also out of stock for my area.
I'm trying to refrain myself from buying digital
No. I'll never play a horror game.
Nearly 6 hours in brilliant remake
Nah. I played the original for a bit at a friend's house back in the day on PS2. And it was really not for me.
@Shepherd_Tallon my man 😂
@Mintie all the best, comrade!
@Kraven , just a heads up, I’ve just finished Blasphemous and if you want to platinum it definitely use a guide (62 hours, 92.81% complete map, 57% of the trophies). I missed out on the good ending because I started a boss fight too early (after beating two other really hard bosses).
On the upside… on to Silent Hill 2! Woo!
I have a huge backlog. See, what I did was just take one arm and swish the entire lot off the table and now I just have this one game sitting there: Silent Hill 2. It's so good so far! I hate to compare it to Alan Wake 2 but I'm enjoying it much more than that. They're both over-the-shoulder horror games and so that's why. Alan Wake 2's scale is massive whereas Silent Hill 2 is more concise and not as daunting going on item hunts, at least so far.
I'm a huge fan of the original as well so maybe I'm biased but for anyone the fence, it's truly great so far. NICE JOB, BLOOBER + KONAMI!!!
@amatmulisha Yeah, it was harrowing, to say the least! I went in pretty blind, and my friend handed me the controls/ headset right before being pursued by some horrible thing that looked ripped right from The Ring. With a chainsaw. I was impressed, but maybe not half as much as I was spooked!
@Shepherd_Tallon As a chance to try PSVR, I was super impressed. And I'm generally a fan of horror films, so you'd think the two combined would be a match made in heaven, but no way. Watching a horror film is not the same as being in the horror film... 😱
I’m still playing Wukong, But when I’m done with it I’ll be playing Silent Hill 2
maybe later? £55 is a lot of money for a game and I feel I wasted money on blacksmith wudung.
I own it, but I'm going to wait for Pro support to play it. Meanwhile, I have a pretty good pile of games to play.
