Silent Hill always has been and forever will be considered one of the greatest horror franchises ever made, but ask anyone under the age of 20 nowadays what game Pyramid Head is from and they’re perhaps more likely to name Dead by Daylight than the series’ legendary second entry. A few dire side games (PS3’s Downpour and the PS Vita title Book of Memories) along with Konami’s decision to step away from the video game industry have seen the IP fall into obscurity, only really mentioned when discussing its PS2 heyday. There’s no way to play any of the past instalments on PS5 or PS4, and due to how dreadful the HD Collection on PS3 was, the definitive console versions remain the originals.
It’s a sad state for such an iconic IP, but as Capcom goes from strength to strength with its excellent Resident Evil remakes, Konami finally seems to want to make amends with new instalments, and first and foremost, a full remake of what’s widely considered the franchise at its peak: Silent Hill 2. Bloober Team of Blair Witch and The Medium fame has been drafted in to help make the project a reality, working in close collaboration with Konami to faithfully bring back the classic. While there had been doubts over its ability to do so, the Polish developer has well and truly put any concerns to bed: Silent Hill 2 is incredible.
The two firms have come together to create a PS5 experience that wholeheartedly honours the PS2 masterpiece while expanding it and implementing new ideas, assets, and areas in all the right ways. What once was a roughly 10-hour game is now double that, with more things to see and do that still stick to the main story and its themes. It’s an impressive recreation of Silent Hill that manages to feel both familiar as you walk its same streets 23 years later, but also fresh as unforgettable locations like Toluca Prison and the Labyrinth receive significant touch-ups while retaining their scare factor.
It’s not an exact, one-to-one recreation; there have been changes made, yet the PS5 replacements still feel right and relevant. You’ll feel it most in the puzzles, where some have been swapped for completely new ones or updated with different features and mechanics. There’s slightly less of an emphasis on solving out-and-out riddles, exchanged for more exploration of the wider environments to find items. While this trade-off may become one of the few topical debates surrounding the release, many of the remake’s other additions and updates make for a much better playing game.
The camera, for example, has been brought much closer to protagonist James Sunderland with a modern over-the-shoulder perspective to improve immersion. This has aided the combat system, which — while retaining its weighty and deliberate roots — feels a lot better, especially with a gun in your hands. Of course, the control system has been overhauled to reflect all of this — modern button mapping makes interaction a breeze, even in the lovingly archaic-looking inventory menu.
And that’s exactly what Silent Hill 2 on PS5 manages to do so well: it continues to revel in the more classic gameplay styles of old, like delightfully convoluted puzzle-solving, while also still feeling, controlling, and looking like any other modern game. From a purely visual perspective, it may not quite compare to Capcom’s own remaking efforts, but everything else Bloober Team and Konami have achieved more than stacks up against a Resident Evil 2.
One of the things that’s allowed the PS2 original to sustain its importance for such a long time, though, is its narrative. The story of James and the trip to find his dead wife in Silent Hill is heralded for its handling of sensitive subjects and themes, and in itself presenting a gripping plot full of intrigue. Bloober Team handles this delicate aspect with respect as it faithfully restores the plot for the modern era, with little in the way of edits or cuts. The main beats all return as you remember them, along with every ending featured in the original game. A handful of entirely new conclusions have also been written into the PS5 remake. All in all, with the source text already there for Bloober Team to recreate, Silent Hill 2 still makes the same impact more than two decades later.
The intense and suspenseful gameplay loop of item searching and fighting monsters holds up too — through the help of its modern enhancements. Without the need for objective markers or quest logs, you’ll feel a natural urge to probe every room making up any given location — from the Woodside Apartments to the final Lakeview Hotel — hunting for items and resources. The classic survival horror loop of solving extravagant puzzles remains incredibly satisfying, combined with tense and heavily weighted combat to make any expedition away from a save point a dangerous one.
You see, James isn’t a military-trained soldier; he’s just a regular guy looking for his wife. He’s not been trained in the art of steel pipe swings, nor does he feel particularly comfortable with a shotgun in his hands. The game reflects his inexperience with a very deliberate, heavy combat system that prioritises melee weapons for standard enemies and guns for boss fights. James swings the 2x4 slowly, while reloading and popping off accurate shots takes time. Every action you take during an encounter feels intentional and calculated, because if you miss, there’s every chance the monster on the other end will bite back with a killing blow.
This goes both ways, though: seeing an enemy drop to the floor so you can beat it to death after a couple of successful hits is more gratifying when you’ve earned it. The only other move James has in his repertoire is a very basic dodge, so Bloober Team has successfully emulated the combat mechanics of old while giving them a modern-day feel, like over-the-shoulder aiming. Making you think about when you attack rather than going gung ho, it’s a measured mechanic that heightens satisfaction and relief.
Another way Silent Hill 2 taps into those senses is through the PS5 DualSense controller, with some of the most impressive implementations of haptic feedback in years. Work has been put into simulating a lot of the actions or environments portrayed on your TV screen so you can feel them in your hands. In the dead of night, when the heavens open and there’s rain soaking James to the bone, you’ll feel each individual droplet in the pad. As you’re exploring Toluca Prison, there’s a section where an alarm is sounded. Its grinding, unbearable pitch translates into vibrations inside the PS5 controller that genuinely make it unpleasant to hold. The effect makes you want to shut the alarm off as quickly as possible, intensifying the sequence as a whole as you begin to feel it in your own body. Some of Silent Hill 2’s use cases would make Astro Bot proud — it’s that effective.
The transformation of the game’s visuals, from PS2 to PS5, is another highlight. It doesn’t quite compare to top-of-the-line AAA titles, but to see how Bloober Team has faithfully recreated all of Silent Hill 2’s iconic locations, cutscenes, and moments for the current generation is impressive in itself. With a new soundtrack from returning composer Akira Yamaoka, it’s a sensual delight from both a graphical and auditory perspective.
The only proper disappointment is some slight visual bugs in the thick fog of Silent Hill, where you can sometimes see the outlines of buildings poking through. It looks a little unnatural, particularly when it’s difficult to see anything else beyond five feet in front of you. There’s also a slight fuzziness to character’s faces when analysed up close and during cutscenes, which looks a little strange. You get used to it, but it can be distracting from time to time.
Conclusion
Bloober Team has faithfully and respectfully recreated one of the survival horror genre’s all-time greats, modernising Silent Hill 2 in all the right ways. So much of what made the Konami classic a masterpiece in 2001 remains in this PS5 remake 23 years later, with the same unforgettable story, satisfying exploration, and weighty combat. There were concerns in the lead-up to release, but Silent Hill 2 speaks for itself: a spectacular experience that once again represents survival horror at its best.

Hey everyone, feel free to copy me in if you have any questions. I love this game!
Thanks for the review Liam. Really glad this turned out well after the initial concerns. Never played the original so will be picking this up.
Oh wow wasn’t expecting the review so soon.
Thanks again, Liam. I can’t get this due to budgetary constraints (can’t buy more than one full priced game per month and my money in October is going to Shadow) but I was pretty interested in how this panned out.
@LiamCroft Do you think I should play the original via emulation first or just jump straight into this one?
I played a bit of the original back in the day but never really stuck with it.
So glad this has gone well. Hopefully they can remake other games in the series after this.
Silent Hill needed a win. Well done, Bloober Team.
Sounds great. I never played this first time around so looking forward to it.
@Yousef What's Shafow?
@Intr1n5ic humble apologies mate, twas a typo.
It’s Shadow (referring to Sonic x Shadow Generations).
Thanks for the review @LiamCroft
I believe this is the first PS review that has "Second Opinion" from other staff, yes? I personally like it and i think it should be a standard.
Also
"A handful of entirely new conclusions have also been written into the PS5 remake"
So you're saying there's a new ending?
@PuppetMaster nope, Astrobot had one too.
I agree it’s a fantastic feature! Kudos to PS for their creativity.
I didn’t expect that. Every other Bloober Team game I’ve played has been average at best. Well done Bloober.
Currently sitting at 87 - 89 on Meta / Open Critic.
@PuppetMaster I agree it’s fantastic, but has been done on many games here before. But I believe only when the stars align and a second reviewer has also played the game. They can’t do that for every release, too much manpower and too many games.
Yes!!! Cant wait to play it next week!!
@Yousef Ahh, I thought it was probably a typo but guessed AC and was worried you had somehow missed the news of its delay.
I'm pleasantly surprised by this, I didn't think Bloober were capable of it. Now I'm actually looking forward to giving it a go, which I wasn't really planning to do.
Hopefully it does well so Konami actually considers creating a new Silent Hill that isn't a pachinko machine.
9/10 holy moly! I mean I knew it was going to be amazing, I'm really glad I held onto hope, even after that god awful combat trailer they first showed!
Wow!!! I was pretty sure they were going to flub this. This will be so perfect to play with the teens for Halloween. I am very happy they went all out with dual-sense. Silent Hill 2 needs alllllll the atmosphere. I'm excited for Bloober team also. I really hope they learned a lot.
Thank you for the review, I am glad this turned out well, as the original is very dear to me - would love to get it at launch but I am getting Metaphor first
So happy for Bloober! What an insane year!
Review from some gaming sites:
Easy Allies impression, not review
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NzQndZTUzDA
@Yousef ah i didn't know Astro Bot review also has second opinion. I must be missed it.
@BolkaRover I’d just play this straight away, the PS5 version is that original game plus quite a bit more.
I cannot wait to play this game, silent hill 2 is one of my favourite games
@PuppetMaster yeah and from Aaron usually, the video editor, who’s likely their go-to guy given that he’s already converting the reviews into video format. I imagine that’s how the feature propped up.
So happy to see this I’ve been hyped since it was announced. It’s even sweeter because after all the over the top hate for bloober since this was announced it’s so good to see it reviewing extremely well and those haters having to eat crow. I’m downloading it now and can’t wait till midnight Saturday to start this.
Great news to wake up to. I had a sneaky feeling Bloober may have reached its final-form with this one. Looks SO good!
@themightyant I maintain Observer is anything but average it’s a really good game and their best game
Sounds like a buy. I always preferred Silent Hill 3 myself though, I found Heather to be a more interesting character.
I TOLD YOU ALL TO BELIEVE YESSSSSS
Is the soundtrack completely re-written and new? Or are the original compositions still present too? The original soundtrack was iconic and a major part of why I enjoyed it so much. A new one would have to be truly amazing to hold up.
@dark_knightmare2 I’ve not played that one. Thanks for the heads up
So happy for Bloober and proud of those guys. I actually loved Layers of Fear, Blair Witch and The Medium. Being Polish makes it a bit sweeter haha. Between CDPR, Techland, Bloober and 11bit Studios there’s a lot of contribution into gaming greatness these guys have put in. Also, love Silent Hill and will definitely be buying this!
What’s going on at Eurogamer.
Astro Bot 5/5
Silent hill remake 5/5
🤣🤣🤣
Just started playing through
Dead space on PS5
Will move onto this next.
Only one scary game at a time 🤣
@OldGamer999 back to back games as an everyman. Though Isaac is suspiciously good with guns in combat scenarios.
Bloober did combat well?!? Will play thid when ky ps5 pro turns up
Never played the original, so was silently hoping this would be good.
Yesss, I knew they could pull it off! Bluepoint aren't the only ones that can do remakes. I think it would be in order for many of the haters to apologise for putting bloober through hell for unsubstantiated reasons.
Hats off and applause!
@AndyKazama we are truly on the good time line if Bloober has managed to pull off combat!
Oh wow, was not expecting this to review so well. The only Bloober Team game I've played is Observer: System Redux, which i really enjoyed.
This does follow the current trend of the good news/bad news yo-yo Playstation is having. Whatever comes next is is going to be awful lol.
The original unnerved me so much I could only play it if I ruined the atmosphere by putting Metallica on as I played it. I want to get this but I don't think I could handle it. 😂
I love the original so much… I remember I’d just finished (as in left to be a sort of adult) school the year it came out, and got the cardboard box special edition which I think included a DVD making of? Used to play this way into the early hours of the night… and certain sections / bosses are forever ingrained into my memory. I was actually going to pass on this… felt like it was something that couldn’t be recaptured. But after the glowing reviews, maybe it is actually time for a revisit.
Yeah. Baby!!! Called it!!!! You did it, Bloobs!!!
Pleasantly surprised at this success. Maybe I'll pick it up down the line. Never played a Silent Hill game so I don't have the nostalgia, but I'm curious.
Woo! Im not reading the article until ive finished the game though! I want go in cold. I might have to whip out the old ps2 afterwards
@JohntheRaptor
Really enjoying dead space
It’s sort of horror but with a bit more action and ability, which I really like.
All we need is Lego Horizon Adventures
To get 5/5 from Eurogamer
Then it’s a hat trick and I will pass out.
I wanted this game before the review, now I need this game after it.
I was reaaaaaaaaaly thinking that this was gonna be a huge disappointment.
Nothing in the trailers managed to sell me this thing.
But this review did ! Now, I'm sold !
Sometimes, it's really good to be wrong...
Well how about that Blooper done the impossible.
It is great to see wheh they do justice to a good old game. Bravo! This deserves our bucks.
Wasn't expecting this to score so highly, well done bloober team
Glad it is doing well. Hopefully this will trigger Konami and start remaking other franchise or make new games. Looking forward to play it.
I keep seeing people (not necessarily on here) saying what a quiet year it is in regards to gaming… wtf 🤷♂️
This and Metaphor: ReFantazio within days of each other. T'is a good week!
@DennisReynolds In the words of Andrew Ryan "I chose the impossible"
Glad to see they’ve done a great job, as a fan of the original ps2 games in the series.
Also refreshing to see reviews posted before the early access goes live. While I’m not a fan of the predatory capitalistic nature of early releases for extortionate prices, at least with early reviews you know it is worthwhile playing or not.
I will probably now fork out to play it Sunday, can’t wait.
Early accesses that correspond with weekends should also be banned imo, or early access premiums in their entirety.
@1UP-HUSKY For Silent Hill, they're already working on multiple projects. After this, we'll probably gonna see either Silent Hill f which is the new mainline game or the spin-off Silent Hill Tonwfall.
But don't put too much hope though. I mean, Castlevania Collections seems they sold quite well but so far there's no sign from Konami to make a new game.
On the other hand, Contra got a new game or reimagine of the 1st game with Contra: Operations Galuga but it's just not that good.
@LiamCroft
Hi. Does the performance look locked 60fps? And is a Pro mode planned? (I didnt see it in the main list last time i saw it updated).
Many thanks.
@JohnnyShoulder next game: knack 3
@Matroska I’d put on J-rock 😂
@colonelkilgore lemme know how you feel colonel! Also yeah lol this month alone debunks that myth. Four big games.
@DennisReynolds hopefully this means mgs delta gonna be awesome
@PuppetMaster I’d die for a new castlevania
Can’t wait to play this my first proper silent hill game
Still wish they'd have worked this magic on the 1st one, but glad this has turned out well!
My physical copy arrived today. The original is among my top 3 favorite game of all time. Needless to say, I'll be all over it on the weekend whenever I find the time.
@Yousef- Yeah me too. But i expect we will get 1 or 2 more collection with PS2 & PS3 games (Lament of Innocence, Curse of Darkness, and Lords of Shadow trilogy) before we get a new game...
@Rich33 It's definitely not a locked 60fps on base PS5, but I found it to be a mostly smooth experience for the most part. Nothing has been said about a PS5 Pro just yet.
@PuppetMaster loooool same. I’m obviously not against collections at all, but there’s something to be said about how they’re pacing their releases lol. I for one don’t fully agree with the thought that every thing in existence needs a remaster 😂 at least not if it leads to stuff like this. But as @LiamCroft mentioned, Konami’s exit from the gaming market could still be felt today lol. Hopefully that changes…. In the next ten years 🤣
Well done, Bloober.
Oh. My. Lawwwd. The reviews for this game are good everywhere! I am honestly shocked and excited all at once. I can’t wait to get my hands on this game. Also, apologies in advance — I didn’t read the review because I was to go into this game totally blind.
I’m so glad I decided to keep my preorder. I was considering cancelling it, even as recent as yesterday, but, man, now I can’t wait! Glad the biggest scare in the game IS NOT its quality. That’s a genuine fear these days.
I never really could get into these games back in the day like I did Resident Evil, I played them once and that was it. After reading this however my enthusiasm for these games has been rekindled.
Wow. I thought this remake going to get a lower score because all the haters said bloobers gonna failed this. But man,9/10.
Can’t wait to play. Never play the original so im so excited
@LiamCroft
Thank you. In that case I may defer to DF before I buy, but i was looking for a game between about a weeks time and Nov 7th, so this sounds a good choice.
Would say this is the best surprise of the year. So often we see games and studios miss the mark and make not bad games but disappointing games. It’s not often we see a studio that’s known overall for mediocre games graduate to that next level to make something truly great. With how light this year has been for games that would fall under “action/adventure” could see SH2 actually having a great chance at winning it.
@DennisReynolds So you gonna give Bloober some cred now? When you buying it?
Anyway, gentle ribbing aside, Well done to the team, the scores are even better than i thought they'd be.
@Fishmasterflex96 Personally I would say Stellar blade was the biggest surprise as people thought it was just another gooner game, but turned out to be a really polished and complete game!
@PuppetMaster ign are a joke. I wouldn't even trust them to arrange a prayer in a church nevermind review a game,
Woah 9! So excited now!
@LiamCroft great to hear this turned out so well, I’ll definitely look to pick it up.
How generous are the save points?
I know it adds to the horror, but the original made it a bit too frustrating for me to complete back in the day
Glad they managed to stick the landing. Too busy with other games atm, but getting this later for sure.
@Uromastryx Yes i know IGN is a joke. They gave 3/10 to God Hand and 5.9/10 to Alien Isolation, both are my favs games and didn't deserve that low score. But i didn't say you or anyone should trust them.
I only put IGN score in here to show the remake received quite well including from joke site like IGN.
@Yousef Konami decision to left gaming industry and rely on pachinko as their main income was really weird. It's like their president got a sudden brain damage or something. But i heard the new president has different motivation. Maybe he's the reason we got all these collections, remaster / remakes, and a couple of new games.
Delighted they landed this so well. Nice job bloober.
@Hyena_socks There are a few manual save locations in each main area, but you also get 3 autosave that are replacing one another as you progress. I never lost more than a few minutes of progress when I died.
I knew that silent hill 2 remake was going to get a good score.i been saying it for a while now.its that amazing.word up son
@Oram77 yes that’s that other main example I was thinking off but the reason I would say Silent Hill 2 is the bigger surprise is cause Shift Up didn’t have any precedence so Stellar Blade was an unknown quantity so it could have went either way. All this opposite Bloober team which is a known team, known for bad to mediocre horror games. So for a bad team like Bloober team who had bad trailers for SH2 remake to actually deliver and make a great game I would argue is a bigger surprise.
@Fishmasterflex96 Bloober have never been a bad team, they've been treated super unfairly by a lot of people,, and konami handing them the Silent Hill IP didn't help -
Layers Of Fear, The Medium, Observer are all good games that I enjoyed, not for everyone, not mind blowing, but good games.
The return of the king. Feels good to have a great silent hill release. Nostalgia done right!
This will be my second new game purchase in 2024, no other games have got me interested and there is nothing else this year, so from my own perspective it's sparse.
Excellent! Love when haptics are utilized properly. I was let down at the lack of support for Rise Of The Ronin.
Oh wow, I did not expect to see this. I'm super glad the remake is good. Can't wait!
I imagine this was no easy task for Bloober so huge congrats to the team! Cannot wait to dive in myself! One of those special games I plan to crawl through, absorbing every second.
Yes, but will it give me nightmares...
@__Seraph they may be not bad but they certainly weren’t good. You have every right to like the games but they all god mid to mediocre reviews until now
The original Silent Hill 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Glad to see this one reviewed well. I knew Bloober Team could get the atmosphere, but I was a little worried about a few of the other aspects of the game. Looking forward to playing this one.
@torquex I think that’s one of the major problems in the world rn tbh… everyone is just so consumed by their own subjective perspective. Objectivity is key… in all aspects of life.
im glad a blooper team game is getting some love. they obviously have talent as a studio and have seen their games get steadily better and better
@__Seraph I loved the Medium it really grows on you has resident evil 1 vibes to it with the camera angles and gets very disturbing as it concludes as you discover what's been going on
Sounds good! I wish they'd changed even less about the original game, but then again, I played the HD remaster and didn't notice how horrible it apparently was, so I doubt what they're remixing here will bother me after all these years.
Glad there's a spooky game to play during October. Might have to grab this over the weekend instead of waiting for Christmas...
I was in the queue at HMV when the hype was real for this back on PS2, and thought it was massively overrated when I played it, I just can't motivate myself to play it again.
So where are all the people who say BLOOBER TEAM SUCKS. BLOOBER TEAM BAD. THIS REMAKE IS GONNA SUCK?
Can I assume if I've never played any Silent Hill games before, I won't have a problem playing part II and never playing 1?
@aj21009 Won’t be a problem! It’s a self contained story and a fine entry to jump in.
For me the originals' effectiveness relied almost entirely on the sound design. That's what made Silent Hill games scary. Doesn't get too much attention in this review, which is disappointing.
Mine's been shipped.
I feel quite happy to see such an old game that has existed side by side with us old gamers be restored in such a great fashion.
I never got far the first time around - but I remember how effectively the opening beats set the atmosphere. To have a modern rendition to pick up at my leisure is like having gamer currency in the bank. Maybe next year I'll pick it up if they discount it - I am cynical, it will be updated, patched and reduced in price in due time.
I was wrong, time to eat my words, getting it day one.
Honestly I'm glad about Bloober
Taking bets on whether James Stephanie Sterling will tear this to shreds.
Definitely getting it and I am ashamed to say that I have never finished a single Silent Hill game (mostly played 1 and 4 for about an hour)
Time to change that!
@anoyonmus there's a ton. We are the ones saying "wow, I'm glad for Bloober Team."
@Yousef- replying to how you'd die for a new Castlevania. Are you sure that's a good idea, from Konami? I agree with the sentiment, but I look at what they've done with Contra, and I hope Konami keeps their mitts off my Castlevania. Unless they hand it over to Joymasher, Tribute, Lizardcube, or some other young, hungry studio.
Never thought i would be doing this but after reading a few reviews i ended up pre-ordering it 😅
Would be a perfect game for Haloween but my wallet says no
I still want to get this game in the future
@themightyant that's pretty solid! Glad it turned out ok
Awesome too hear can't wait till Midnight this Sunday 🔥
@Fishmasterflex96 mid to good i would say same goes to you of course, totally understand if you don't like 'em but I personally think they've been slightly unfairly maligned.
@trev666 weird thing about the medium is when I first seen a trailer I thought.....is this a new silent hill game?! I think konami mut've picked upon it. Honestly, i even like The Blair Witch game. I think they make good games.
@DennisReynolds Glad to hear it, wasn't having a go before, but i am looking forward to you telling us all how much you love the game
I’m surprised the haptics is well optimised This is good, who knows maybe another remake down the line will give this classic tale the triple A realism it deserves. That’s why it didn’t score an 11 let’s not muck around
Cannot wait to play this on Sunday.
@__Seraph well at the very least now they have a certified hit on their hands. It’s nice to see teams finding success in games, especially in the year we have had.
I’ve been skeptical since they’ve announced it based on Bloobers previous work. I’ve been spoiling a bit of it for myself and am excited to play it. Bloober seems to have taken feedback and grown and I’m confident they’ve done a great job.
Played the original and it was one of the best games I've experienced overall across all platforms.
Super excited to hear this redone soundtrack. Akira Yamaoka‘s work is absolutely iconic. We are all in for a horror masterclass next week!
Way to go Bloober Team!
Good to see Bloober Team = job well done! I own the OG SE on PS2 so I'll wait for a price cut. Glad to see new game mechanics like a dodge added.
The fuzziness though, wouldn't that be an art style direction.
@NeonPizza I guess testing it on PSPro, will tell us if it was a choice or performance issues. Or it might just be fixed in an update.
Not going to lie, I was pretty nervous about it being reviewed but I’m happy to see that it’s getting good reviews. So I’ll probably end up picking this up soon after its release.
As someone who was too young (and too chicken) to ever dare pick up a Silent Hill game, this one seems about perfect for a spooky October thrill, and I think I'm sold on the atmosphere. The use of the dualsense just tops it off, and sounds like a must-play!
@LiamCroft How's the difficulty of combat and puzzles? I have seen some people say that the game is too easy on normal, that they recommend we play on hard. Can you confirm this?
The first trailers of this remake were really bad and made me worried, I'm really glad that the game is actually good. Already made my pre-order, which is something rare for me.
Let's be honest - this isn't just Bloober. This is Bloober with Sony and Konami sitting on their shoulders, but I think this just helps to prove that they need more criticism in the development process, as they've already shown that they are open to actioning on anything constructive and improving their process4es.
@AlexPorto I played on normal and didn’t find the puzzles all that difficult, and I rarely died. The hard mode would definitely be the best option if you’re looking for more of a challenge.
Unlike many others I didn't have a doubt that they could pull it off.
People are always quick to judge because the other games didn't pan out quite as they planned.
What people forget to mention because most just read headlines and don't play the game.
That their games are top notch on horror and atmosphere and for 3/4 of their games they nail it, their games have always missed the target in the final quarter.
So it just shows give them a blue print and they'll nail it. The story was already written all they had to do is recreate the atmosphere of silent hill and that's what they are good at.
Well done.
I am glad Konami is back. I'm thinking of getting MGS3 day one. Haven't had a proper stealth game in a minute.
I recently replayed the PS2 version on my channel in preparation. I forgot how GREAT of a game this is. The narrative is truly next level. The music is insanely good. I was just waiting out on reviews for this before I picked it up. Saw this and others go live and went and bought it right away.
"Silent Hill 2 taps into those senses is through the PS5 DualSense controller, with some of the most impressive implementations of haptic feedback in years." Honestly... this has me more excited than anything else. Haha. One of the most shamefully underutilized features of the PS5.
I was on the fence a lot with this one and decided if the reviews were good then I'd give it a chance and to be sure, the reviews have been glowing. So I will be dipping into this one with somewhat low expectations still and hope to be pleasantly surprised.
The characters look way better in the old cutscenes barely recognise em now. Maria was a crush now she looks like a two-bit hooker; I wouldn’t touch her with a bargepole
No demo planned?
Bought the Deluxe Edition and I'm ~2h in.
It has some quirks here and there, like rain water pouring from exterior lights that have no roof above or very close to them, from which that water can gather and pour... and it's not even raining... Or that same pouring water dropping right through James as if he's not there, no collision whatsoever.
But that's just small potatoes.
It's a very good Remake overall.
No severe bugs encountered (other than the vicious roaches, but you can easily introduce those to your wooden plank ha ha).
No crashes, no weird artifacts.
Framerate is generally stable.
It's more graphically demanding than the GoW Ragnarok port for example, but 4k@60fps is possible with DLSS on Quality and everything on high/max settings on my undervolted RTX 3090 SuprimX (+ 7800X3D, 32GB RAM), so it's all good.
Anyway, to any fan of the OG game still on the fence : it's more than worth the purchase - PS5 or PC - take your pick, and go for it !
Should remake 1 if this one succeeds. Never got past piano puzzle back then. Could not easily check like now back in the day. SH puzzles are more difficult, and intellectual than RE. Then again, finding the secrets and solving the puzzles yourself back in the day can't be compared with anything. Imagine your surprise and sense of achievement when you accidentally found a secret in mario 3.
@LiamCroft I saw the DF video on it and it’s impressive for sure even on base PS5. I’m assuming the PRO is going to knock my socks off 🤩. Great review
They also mention performance issues, I might hold off for a patch before I play this game. PS5 can't handle ray tracing well.

As harsh as I've been on Bloober, I did enjoy The Medium and some of the stuff I'm hearing from people I trust is positive. Think I might end buying this on Tuesday.
I have to admit, I was very skeptical about Bloober working on this remake but really happy they delivered. Hope they will improve performance mode any soon, I really plan to buy this around Christmas and enjoy during that holiday time
@torquex Hence why I mentioned the PRO. Try to read the whole comment pal
@Gamer83 I’m definitely down for this but as the PRO preorder is in I’m going to hold off until it arrives as I’m sure it’s going to be a much better experience, ie: performance mode IS fidelity mode on that thing lol
I did so take it easy chap, i just mentioned there are issues others have reported, that's all no biggie stay cool matey, lol.
I don't like the modern looks of Maria and Angela but I wanna trust this review so I bought a copy on release even though I don't have a ps5 yet. It's a kinda miracle to have this remake in 2024.
Time to play the original one more time.
Since it was announced, I had really high hopes that this was going to be a masterpiece and I wasn't wrong. I am enjoying every second of this game
@LiamCroft a bit late to this one but do you still get a radio that notifies you when enemy are close by? I dont like horror games and dont like jump scares even to this day and im now 41 but always remember back in the day being able to play Silent hill 2 and prepare myself for an incoming enemy due to the radio static notifying me when an enemy was in close proximity. Are there also jump scares in this game. TIA.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Yeah, the radio is still in the game and functions the same way.
@LiamCroft appreciate the reply.
@Mikey856 I did read the whole comment, pal. I responded accurately to your reply. I guess will see then.
