The Monster Hunter Wilds beta is available to download and play now on PS5 — but only if you're a PS Plus subscriber. It's open to everyone from the 31st October, but before then, we want to know if you're already beating down giant beasties with your favourite grossly oversized weapons.
Wilds is set to release next year, on the 28th February, so this beta's actually pretty far in advance. Obviously, Capcom's doing all it can to drum up hype ahead of that launch date, and it's clearly confident in the game's quality.
So, are you playing the Monster Hunter Wilds beta? Vote in our poll, and then shoot an SOS flare into the comments section below.

No im bloody not 🤬. Cut my L1/L2 finger open yesterday and had to have stitches and a splint so i cant bend it.
No, I don't sub for PS plus. I'll wait for the free beta.
Yeah i played an hour and then deleted it.

Yeah I played it yesterday and had a lot of fun with it. I'm sad about the monster clues and evidence being gone, but I'm still enjoying it a lot and especially the character creator. Still need to test out charge blade and great sword and then I am good to go.
I went to download the beat on PSN, thought I'd check out the price while I was there...it's $80 for the base version here in norway. I enjoyed my time with Worlds, but that's a bit too rich for my blood. No need for me to try the beta since I won't be joining the fun until the price drops, so maybe a year from now. 😋
@Kidfunkadelic83 That sounds painful, hope they heal up fast. 🤞
@Maubari What was that you said about negative Nancy's. 😉
Yup loving it so far. Apparently the way going out to hunt monsters here works is similar to how the guiding lands works in World? I still haven't fully played world. But it's pretty cool seeing different monster icons moving around the map and you choose one to go hunt and the hub seems to be in the area too. Focus mode takes a little bit to get used to though. I'd rather just whack the monster wherever I am instead of having to target specific parts. Didn't like that in rise neither
@Judal27 Yup, essentially Guiding Lands but as a full game. It seems Guiding Lands was Capcom's own little test to making it work even if it looked pretty goofy. Pretty happy that it actually plays well(Although I changed Performance mode as soon as I saw it super blurry, I would imagine that this is the demo build shown off to journalists).
@Kidfunkadelic83 Sorry to hear that dude. Perhaps a game you can play with one hand (get your minds out of the gutter people! lol) like Vampire Survivors?
It looks absolutely awful
@DennisReynolds I got only 25mins played, you lasted longer than I did.
The performance mode is SHOCKING. Like, I'm sitting there in disbelief at how smudgy the quality of the image and world assets are. Like, am I looking at sub 720p or am I just losing my sight?

@Nepp67 that's honestly so cool and makes me even more excited to get back into world. And yea I'm not having any issues with how it looks or plays personally. This seems to be another FF7 Rebirth situation. Had no issues with how that game looked either

@Judal27 Guiding Lands is after Iceborne just to let you know if you want to check that out
@ButterySmooth30FPS It's the intro part of the game and that's usually where a game will have a lot of story and setpieces to get you interested in the game just like World(First time impressions are important). Don't expect a good or interesting story out of a Monster Hunter game though. Stories are just there to give an introduction to most of the monsters.
Performances are not great, but the game is amazing.
I gave it a try. I'm in the minority in that I thought it looked great, I'm just not a fan of the gameplay. I find killing monsters gets pretty repetitive.
@Nepp67 will keep that in mind. I'm planning to play through the entirety of it at some point. But I'm definitely still in base world so far
@themightyant @LuXifer thanks guys. I might just have to shorten the splint so i can wrap my finger around. Only got movement from my last knuckle to the tip of my finger lol. Im still going to give it a go tho. Atleast i can create my avatar 😂
@Nepp67 That's kind of what I figured.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Get well soon Kid
I have a friend that's playing the PS Plus beta and he's having a ton of fun with it. I plan on playing it once the Open Beta is out on PC.
@Maubari No worries at all, I'd rather have passionate gamers then a echo-chamber. 😁
I don’t really get Betas like this. Who is it for? Die hard fans will want to play it, but why give them a sub-par impression with a rubbish build? Surely they’ll want the best experience of a full game?
Anyone mildly interested will play the awful build and not want to pay for the full game.
Anyone not interested will just ignore this and the full game anyway.
I need an option for "no, but only because I don't have Plus!" 😮💨 Looking forward to Friday tho! Too bad about the performance issues, but as others have noted, hopefully that's just because it's a pre-release build.
Not yet, waiting for the Steam version to hit!
No, i don't play the beta. MH is another popular series that i can't get into.
I tried MH 1 on PS2, MH 4 Ultimate on 3DS, and my final attempt with the series was MH World on PS4 back in 2017/18. I just can't find the fun with the core-gameplay loop and how 'sluggish' the control is.
It's probably better to play MH with your friends. It's like a party game where if you don't like the game but it will still fun to play with your friends.
Played for about an hour and yeah, it feels like an extension of World and not a step up. Had fun hunting the Alpha Doshaguma but man there’s way too much going on on-screen at any given time with all the pop ups and environmental objects you can click on and use. Not to mention the NPCs talking to you nonstop.
I’ll take the art style, rock solid performance, and gameplay of Rise + Sunbreak any day.
Played it shorty, sunk over 1200 hours in MHW / Iceborn. Not sure when or if I will buy the final product.
Eeeh not interested
I don’t have PS+ but I’ll give it a go when this weekend when it’s open for everyone on all consoles.
I played it and beat all 4(?) monsters. Not sure if there are any more hidden away but I'm pretty convinced I'll enjoy it now. I played Rise on the switch so I guess I'm just used to how bad everything looks.
Normally I prefer to know every monster's weakness before facing them and kitting myself out appropriately but you obviously can't do that with only one weapon so I kind of struggled but I did solo 3 of them. I can probably solo the 4th too but honestly I don't mind having a team for that one.
@Uromastryx I basically played enough to unlock the pendent thing for the full game. Character creator aside (best in series) i was really underwhelmed by everything.
@Kidfunkadelic83 So you can freely play Vampire Survivors. 🙂👍
Switch Axe is a little floaty so far and the PS5 performance is not good. Feeling more "meh" than expected. Looking forward to seeing how it does on my 5800X3D+3080ti (which feels fairly PS5 Pro equiv.)
How bad does it run? Does it have a 40fps fidelity mode? I’m afraid it’s gonna look and run like ffxvi… blurry in performance mode.
Looks like ps6 will be the best place to play this with no compromises.
Going to play it this weekend.
@SteveJaye i just played it, now I'm wondering if it was in 30 fps. Felt a tad sluggish to me. But I didn't check that setting.
I’m planning on trying it in a bit. I’ve never been a Monster Hunter guy, but I’ll keep the tradition of trying the betas for the series alive. Like I say with Like a Dragon, Atlus games, Monster Hunter, etc, maybe the new one is the one. You never know!
@DennisReynolds Same. I started to play it and was in shock by the poor quality. It’s not even a beta version, it’s alpha. I can’t believe it’s 4 months before release. So I deleted the game, I don’t want to see more of this trash… I really hope the release version will be far better…
@Yagami Possibly God Eater or Toukiden.
Well I played it yesterday. Apart of how awful it looks so far on Performance mode and some issues when I try to join friends games. I guess it will be one of the best games in 2025.
So I've not played any of these games before and well this beta isn't likely to change that. I found the first few battles completely confusing, being spammed instructions while I was trying to work out what the hell is going on.
Clearly I'm getting old. My boy has played the beta to death and lives it having put hundreds maybe thousands into a previous MH game. I really want to play this with him, but so far it feels terrible.
