Out now on PS5 and PS4, Monster Hunter Rise seems to be another banger from Capcom. Many have proclaimed this to be one of the best — if not the best — instalment in the long-running franchise, and now that PlayStation players can finally jump in, we want to know if you're buying a copy.
We highly recommend it, by the way. We handed the game a huge 9/10 in our Monster Hunter Rise PS5 review, and as regular readers will know, we don't give out such high scores lightly.
So, will you be playing Monster Hunter Rise this weekend? Vote in our polls, and then explain your situation in the comments section below.

Monster Hunter is an existential nightmare disguised as a video game.
I own it on Switch (where I think I played about 4 hours of it) and it’s on my Series S via Gamepass.
In spite of that I’ll probably buy it on ps when it hits 20.
That’s my magic number. 20 dollars.
This, rather than yesterday's persona games, is more something I'll pick up on Gamepass.
Nah. Played it on PC. Not a huge MH fan so double dipping (or triple, considering I got it on Game Pass too) is not happening.
Pre ordered it, I'll be hunting tonight with the lads maining the SwitchAxe.
I honestly would rather wait for a proper sequel to Worlds that focuses on PS development and not on Nintendo platoforms. I enjoy some Monster Hunter, but not enough to grab an in between title.
Yea I had it pre ordered. And I'm loving it so far. It's just more MH, you know lol. All I ever use is the long sword just cause I like cool anime slashes but I really liked World's bow. So if it's similar in Rise, I'll get some time in with it too maybe
@Enuo which makes it the greatest of all the greats
Bought it on Switch back then. Probably will mess around with it on Xbox because of Game Pass.
Despite what i've said i ended up buying it as a impulse buy 😅 As ever the IG is my weapon of choice.
@Enuo how so? I haven’t played any MH games and this might scratch an itch, but I’m not a big fan of existential nightmares
Have it on the Switch, going to pick up Wild Hearts on PS5 to support a new offering in the genre
I logged 300+ hours on Switch, and another 150+ on PC (rushing through vanilla to get to Sunbreak). I'm not buying it again on PS, but I would highly suggest it to anyone interested!
easily one of the best games on PS5
I've already pumped close to 200 hours into the Switch version, so no. Besides that, this series just feels better on a portable system to me.
In a better timeline, this would have released on a PS Vita 2.
playing on GP, will be switching to ps5 when sunbreak arrives
Nope, I bought it on Steam.
Home PC + Steam Deck - it easily ended up as the best option by a mile.
Good MH, but even on PC it looks "meh". Hopefully we get a big leap in presentation next time like MH:World did.
Played it on switch and it was no where near as good as world was to me, also you can't do the campaign in multiplayer like you can in world, so if it ever gets too hard and you need help then you're out of luck.
Anyone new to monster I'd definitely reccomend MHW instead.
Also Wild Hearts is only one month away and that game looks interesting and has better visuals, I'd rather spend the money on a new unique experience than buy the same game again.
I’ll play it if it comes to PS Plus.
Meh nothing has ever appealed to me about it. Can't really say without ever playing it but it has to appeal to me first for considering a purchase. Even if it were put on PS Plus most likely won't check it out with the neverending backlog. Not saying it's crap
I have it on PC already, and I can't migrate my progress so I will not be getting it on PS5 or Gamepass.
Not yet but i do plan on buying.but i got to finish and play the excellent monster hunter world iceborne.and yes i l💖ve using the heavy bowgun.and the bowgun on monster hunter world.but monster hunter rise is getting a dlc also.monster Hunter world is one of the best video games ever made.word up son
Not interested.
I’ll wait for Monster Hunter World 2.
These games take so much out of you that I need years in between as a buffer. The reason why didn’t pick up P5R, I haven’t craved going back to Persona yet, but I will.
If it ever comes to Plus then yeah I'll give it a whirl. Otherwise, nope. Not for any price.
Just a heads up to all those saying it’s free on gp… ahem… you’re renting the game you don’t own nowt lol
I'm a Monster Hunter fan now but I need to get Iceborne and finish backlogs before considering this.
@Enuo
So it's like Elden Ring...lol...
@Mikey856
I think they both know...and don't care...
I'm too depressed to continue playing Sunbreak on Switch thanks to lack of cross-saves. It's so painful that I can't play my save on my PS5.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah but the smaller campaign before the Gathering Hub campaign is so fricking easy that MP would just break the already easy difficulty and end the hunts in minutes of starting. Gathering Hub quests the main meat of the game is where MP might be more needed hence why you can play those hunts in MP.
@Enuo Sorry you don't like good games.
@grapetrap also they are REALLY not helping new game sales on Xbox. Disastrous frankly. No wonder some forza devs have jumped ship to start the new studio to make multi-plats
Have never played a Monster Hunter game, but would take a look if they release a demo on PS5.
@MindfulGamer well I can assure you that MHW on ps5 is an absolute dream to play
@KaijuKaiser There alot of things wrong with EA and why they are hated. Wild Hearts is going to fail with the marketing of it.
Game Pass, easy.
Yup have it loaded on Game Pass. Still have Monster Hunter World in the PS4 shrink wrap, lol.
Already played through it on Switch.
It’s a good game. I enjoyed World more. But I do hope that for World 2 they add the verticality and movement options that Rise has. That was the biggest improvement and it needs to be carried over into World 2.
I tried World at one point but yeah this style game just doesn't click with me. I'm happy fans get a chance to play this in the case they only play on Playstation or Xbox though.
I'll be playing Fire Emblem this weekend primarily.
Playing it on GamePass.
No physical version so I won’t be buying it.
@YourNameHere It's a pity that you left such a great game unplayed I put over 700 hours in already your loss I guess.
@CR45H-0VERR1DE5 I'm in the same camp as you.
I'll try it but previous titles havent set my pulse racing, so Im not hugely excited.
This game series has some huge fans who love the gameplay loop and cant get enough, and many others that dont get it at all and wander what all the fuss is about. Ive previously found titles a little impenetrable, but as I can try it on gp, it would be rude not to!
Thats the beauty of these subscriptions - Im currently engrossed in Judgement thanks to psn, but had passed it by on release.
Im hoping the same will happen with this title and I get hooked!
Put 100 hours into it on Switch. Have a PC but something about sitting on the couch with this one appealed. Bought it for PS5 and it is incredible. Won’t go back to the Switch version now and looking forward to playing through this one as a charge blade main.
Didn't buy it on PS5 but I did put over 100 hours into it on Switch and highly recommend it to PS gamers. I never really got into the MH games but there was something about Rise I really liked.
I have it downloaded but haven't started it. I feel like if I don't finish Witcher first I will never get back to it.
I really want to play it but I haven't finished Monster Hunter World yet... But I remember not loving that one. That game is definitely easier than the previous one. 4 Ultimate is my favorite. Is Rise harder or the same as World?
@IanAlbarn
The main story campaign is easier than World’s.
Once you get into the optional content it gets about the same as the optional content in World.
Ultimately some of the difficulty is taken out of Rise solely because of the movement options they give you. Verticality is a big deal in Rise.
I already own it on Switch but never played it. I'll wait for the PS5 version to be $20 New or cheaper before I'll consider buying and playing.
I have monster hunter world and i really enjoyed it..what baffles me is the review does not mention all the options for the graphics in this game. It has the usual performance/quality presets blah, blah, blah but according to digital foundry it also has a pretty extensive amount of options so you can tailor the game to your desired fidelity. I wish reviewers on here would mention these things because the review makes it sound as if the ps5 is being held back by the switch which clearly is not the case. I might give this a go later in the year when its cheaper and i have nothing to play..
Loved world. Hoping this lives up to the standard somewhat.
Isn't this a switch game?
