Ah, the PS4. At the time of writing this article, Sony's last-gen console is still very much alive, but the system is now entering its ninth year on the market. As such, we don't have a problem with looking back on the system's frankly excellent games catalogue, and we invite you to rate a whole bunch of PS4 titles so that we can put together an official Push Square list of the console's best software.
But hey, it won't be easy. As mentioned, the PS4 has a huge library, and there are so many brilliant games to consider. In our humble opinion, the PS4 era has been one of Sony's strongest — coming incredibly close to equalling the immense success of the PS2, and ushering in an impressively lucrative age of digital gaming.
Following on from the PS3, Sony knew that it couldn't afford another bad start to a console generation. In a lot of ways, the PS4 was specifically designed to sidestep many of its predecessor's issues. For developers, it was easy to work with. For players, it was easier to play with. Its online components were streamlined, and innovations like the Share button brought a social edge to the system that's now part of PlayStation's identity.
But for us Gamers™, it was the PS4's games that solidified its place as a top tier system. About halfway through the PS3's lifecycle, Sony had really stepped things up with regards to exclusive, high quality titles. It had laid the foundations for its first-party studios to go all-out on genre-defining experiences like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and God of War III, and things would only get better with the PS4.
The last-gen device is simply packed with amazing exclusives. Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us: Part II... The list goes on. And on top of all that, you've got stone cold modern classics from third parties: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Red Dead Redemption 2, Persona 5 Royal, Dark Souls III, Monster Hunter World... Jeez!
And on that note, we think it's time to get rating. Here's how it works: you'll find a list of every PS4 game in our system below. You can use it to rate as many games as you like, and once a game has a certain number of ratings, it'll be included in our official Best PS4 Games article, which we'll be publishing in the near future (assuming its ratings are actually positive!).
Remember, you can also use the search bar to find specific titles.
Right then, let's get rating!
Thanks for taking the time to rate all of these PS4 games. What titles did you actually end up rating? Feel free to tell us all about your favourites in the comments section below.

RDR2 takes the cake for me.
God of War by far for me and then The Witcher 3 and then Nier Automata.
1. Bloodborne
2. Elden Ring
3. God of War
4. Metal Gear Solid V
5. The Last of Us part 2
all 10’s!
edit: & Red Dead Redemption 2… another 10!
Horizon zero dawn was my game of the generation
I wanted to say "when it comes to exclusives Spider-Man" but then i realized that it's on PC now lol
I guess the two most important games overall for me are Persona 5 (Royal) and The Witcher 3. Absolutely incredible games
1) Horizon zero dawn
2) Detroit become human
3) Wolfenstein new order
4) Death stranding
5) Alien isolation
1) Yakuza 5
2) Yakuza 0
3) Yakuza k2
4) Yakuza K1
5) Lost Judgment
6) Yakuza 6
7) Yakuza 3
8) Judgment
9) Yakuza 4
10) Fist of the North Star
However, if we are allowed to count PSVR - Astro Bot Rescue Mission blows every game ever made out of the water.
1) RDR2
2) TLOU2
3) Bloodborne
4) The Witcher 3
5) Uncharted 4 / GOW
Elden Ring would be there on top fighting with RDR2, but luckily I played it on PS5, so I don't have to make that decision
Persona 5 Royal is the correct answer. After that...
2. Bloodborne
3. Ghost of Tsushima
4. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4
5. Street Fighter V (That's right I said it!)
Red Dead Redemption 2
& The Witcher 3
stand atop my list with a small gap to:
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
God of War
Uncharted 4
Horizon Zero Dawn
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order
Detroit: Become Human
I'm only leaving out Ghost of Tsushima and Elden Ring as they were PS5 versions for me. But Ghost is phenomenal and Elden Ring was special in an Elden Ring kind of way.
And a special mention to Watch Dogs, my first PS4 experience, and it actually felt like a new era of gaming to me.
Edit: my bad for forgetting KCD and Jedi Fallen Order 😬
1) Yakuza 0
2) Persona 5 Royale
3) Yakuza Kiwami
4) Red Dead Redemption 2
5) Judgment
6) Spider-Man
7) Mass Effect Legendary Edition
8) L.A. Noire Remastered
5) God of war
4) final fantasy 7 remake
3) spider-man
2) astro bot
1) horizon zero dawn
Ah, so many greats, but if I have to rank them ...
1. Definitely Red Dead Redemption 2
2. Spider-Man

Red Dead II
Dark Souls III
Salt and Sanctuary
Dirt Rally 2.0
Hollow Knight
Nioh 2
The Outer Worlds
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
The Last Guardian
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
(in no particular order)
EDIT oh and Sonic Mania
1. The Witcher III
2. Persona 5
3. NieR Automata
4. Bloodborne
5. Nioh 2
6. Death Stranding
7. God of War
No order, all must-plays in my view:
Bloodborne
GoW
GoT
Persona 5 Royal
RDR2
Witcher 3
Dark Souls 3
RE7
TLOU Part 1 (haven’t played 2 yet)
Medievil (Wildcard. I love Daniel Fortesque, the original is one of my favourite games ever).
There’s so many more, both 1st and 3rd party that are great. The PS4 library is something I think many will appreciate more as time goes on, I see the term “overrated” too often in reference to the games. That’s not a dig at Nintendo or Xbox, the PS4 really is that great.
GOTG for me, 10/10
Death Stranding
Red Dead Redemption 2
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Horizon Zero Dawn.
Last of Us 2 would be in there if the story wasn't so miserable and frustrating.
Honourable mention and a 9/10 for Days Gone, overlong but quite underrated IMO.
Already getting some nostalgia looking at that photo of PS4 games. This will go down as an absolute golden era for single player gaming.
There are no entries for FFXIV Shadowbringers or Endwalker...
Ghost of Tsushima, HZD, Days Gone and Death Stranding easily in my top 10 for being brand new IP with pure quality. Of course games like part 2 and GoW in their too. TLoU part 2 in my head I call it Sonder
@Tharsman Sorry about that! It wouldn't count anyway, though — our final list won't include expansions or DLC, so just make sure to rate XIV highly!
@thefourfoldroot1 hey, Sega have this game called Yakuza, have you heard of it?
I did most of my gaming on PC during the PS4 generation and I only played exclusives on it.
That's changed since GPU miners killed reasonable prices, so now I'm mainly PS5.
Anyway....
1. Uncharted 4
2. God of War
3. Days Gone
4. Horizon: Zero Dawn
5. The Last of Us:
Now, I know #5 is a remaster from PS3, but it's the release that made me want to, and subsequently, buy a PS4.
Honourable mention to the Uncharted Collection for being the definitive way to enjoy those games as well.
Alien Isolation
Axiom Verge
Dark Souls 3
Earth Defense Force 4.1
Horizon Zero Dawn
It Takes Two
Shadow of the Colossus
Spider-Man
The Witness
Tony Hawk 1+2
Trials Fusion
Uncharted 4
These are the games that really defined the PS4 for me.
monster hunter world top followed by HZD, days gone, persona 5, GoW.
Not sure whether i class the following as ps4 (but just me) GT7, GoT,Elden ring, ff7, just because they were ps5 era.
Dangerous driving 2 never got released
@ShogunRok but Shadowbringers was a 10/10 while the rest of the game fluctuated between a 7 and a 9...
45 pages in... I'm giving up
@Tharsman Haha, you'll need to work out the average score.
Some PS4 favorites, not in any particular order.
Fallout 4
Far Cry 4 & 5
Handsome Jack Collection
RE Revelations 2
Dying Light
RE 2 & 3 remakes
Edith Finch
Mafia remake
Red Dead 2 online.
Lady In A Leotard With A Gun. It was on sale for 24 cents plus 1cent tax.🤪
@thefourfoldroot1 I love the Yakuza series as well but could easily spend a hundred plus hours in each game. How do you find the time to play anything else?
@Stevemalkpus
I got the plats for the entire Yakuza series within about 9 months. Some were 150-200hrs. I loved (almost) every second, with little desire to play much else honestly, lol.
Im working on finishing my library so ill tell you i a decade or so.
I am surprised by the number of people who have TLOU2 on their lists. I have always felt the structure is brilliant and such a bold move to have you play as Abbie for half the game, but I thought I was in the minority. It’s nice to see others appreciate it as well.
#1. FIFA and we all know its true
13 Sentinels Aegis Rim
Persona 5 Royal
Yakuza 0
Lost Judgment
Nier Automata
Ghost of Tsushima
Marvel's Spider Man
AI The Somnium Files
Uncharted 4
God of War
I've played quite a few PS4 games but these are the ones that I remember enjoying the most. And I still have plenty of them to play as well. PS4 was such a great system with so many games
Nothing beats bloodborne to me.
-Bloodborne
-Persona 5/royal

TLOU 2 AND Uncharted 4 for me ND can do no wrong.
My 10/10 games:
Bloodborne
Dishonored 2
Hitman trilogy
Bloodborne and Balan Wonderland for me
All the above... PS4 was surely the strongest console generation thus far. We were completely spoilt for choice. My list would probably be thirty strong.
There were way too many greats last generation, but my favourite by far was Bloodborne. First souls-like game I've ever beaten (I played the first Dark Souls back in 2012 but didn't beat it until very recently) and by far my favourite even today. Only game that competes with it would be Elden Ring. Besides that, there are so many games that I'm still trying to wrack my brains to recall all of them.
Only Spider-Man and God of War for me. I would say Persona 5 but that's also on PS3. PS4 is by far the lamest of the Playstations. I guess nothing will ever top PS2.
missing a few games i enjoyed, went back through my trophy list:
pathfinder: kingmaker, green hell, commandos 2, bards tale 4, hunter call of the wild
otherwise, slay the spire for me was a real gem (even bought it two more times, on mobile and pc!)
and days gone, both divinity games were the other 10's for me
Well my profile says I have 192 games after rating everything so I guess it was a pretty good generation 😂
Difficult to call - mainly 'cos all the good stuff is STILL coming out on the PS4.
Asking me to pick my favourite child - because there's so many I'd consider 9/10.
This is going to end up being another poll where Nioh is criminally underrated and God of War ends up at number 1 despite not even being the best in its series.
1: The Last of Us 2
2: The Witcher 3
3: Uncharted 4
4: horizon Zero Dawn
5: The Last of Us Remastered
6: Dark Souls 3
7: Metal Hear Solid V: Phantom Pain
8: God of War
1) Monster Hunter: World + Iceborne
2) Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
3) Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
4) The Last Of Us Part II
5) Persona 5
6) Spider-Man
7) Dragon Quest XI
8) Ghost of Tsushima
9) Valkyria Chronicles 4
9) Tales of Arise
10) Overwatch
Nathan Drake, Geralt of Rivia, Arthur Morgan, Jin Sakai, Peter Parker, Aloy and Kratos
A fight might be unfair, but who comes out on top? Exciting 😁
Couple of games not on the list - I really enjoyed Hard West. Would give it 8.5 ricochet bullets! The one game I really love that didn't make the list (☹️) was Pathfinder: Kingmaker. Eagerly awaiting next week's release of Wrath of the Righteous on PS!!
Only King’s Quest Episodes 1 & 2 were on the list. (I was probably the only one who was going to rate the others anyway.)
Where are all my jumping games?
I was always a PC gamer before I had a break from gaming.
Recently, I bought my first ever console with 2 second hand games (Battlefield 1 because I loved battlefield 1942 on PC and Titanfall2).
Man, I like Titanfall2 storyline, I didn't play battlefield yet as I was too busy with the other one
I was always a big fan of Strategy games on PC, so I “have to” be open-minded when it comes to PS games.
After all, I don't think it is fair to vote in my case, but I am here to read other players recommendations
I just went through every single PS4 game and ranked every one I have played. Thanks, Push Square, it's your fault that today is not a productive day for me.
Can we get some love for the all time underdog Mad Max?!
Bloodborne. That's it.
@thefourfoldroot1 I see you too are a man of culture
Ive bought quite a bit. However, many Ive barely started or not at all. My top 5 personally because I have finished the main story would be
FF7 Remake
FF15
Horizon Zero Dawn
Detroit Become Human'
Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice
Racing: Horizon Chase Turbo, NFS Heat, Wreckfest
Indie: Hades, Rime, Abzu
Just missed because I haven't played much: Metro exodus, god of war, spiderman, last of us, ghost of tsushima
This gen was absolutely amazingly perfect for me because I grew up with Nintendo and the DS, then Gamecube at the baby sitters(with a little ps2 there), and then Wii/Wii U at home during the ps3. So all those remasters and remakes that came out were perfect and I got to play some cool ones.
Graveyard Keeper missing from the list
All done, but of a chore going through, but marked as honest as I could. Wasn't sure if I'd played some on the ps3 or ps5 though
