The not-E3 week of game reveals is only just getting started, but from a PlayStation perspective, it was today's Summer Game Fest live show from Geoff Keighley that is likely to have brought most of the news. Sony already aired its State of Play livestream, and Xbox and Ubisoft are set to follow on Sunday and Monday respectively.
Focusing exclusively on the bundle of announcements during the Summer Game Fest livestream, game reveals took the shape of LEGO Horizon Adventures and Civilization VII. There were then significant updates for titles like Monster Hunter Wilds as well as the announcement of Valorant on PS5.
As always, though, we want to know what you thought of the show if you watched it live as we work to cover all of the news. Was this the best Summer Game Fest show to date, or was it just a bit disappointing? Place your vote in our poll and expand on your selection in the comments below.

There were a couple of good things, maybe a few interesting smaller games too.
But for a 2hour show? Poor is the best I can give it.
That was ******* dreadful.
As they say: The interesting things weren’t new, and the new things weren’t interesting.
I had rock bottom expectations and it still managed to completely underwhelm.
No option for "didn't watch it"?
Went in with low expectations and that about what I got. A couple fun trailers, nothing mind blowing. Highlight was Alan Wake 2 DLC!
The Summer Cringe Fest
As always. Just why. So many ads and games that didn't need to be there.
E3 used to be exciting. Now it all feels like an advertisement, trying to sell you something. They're all begging it feels like. Please be excited!!!
Well show me something exciting first!? Am I a doomer or has it all gone down the drains after PS3? Kinda makes me sad tbh.
Astro Bot being our saviour really REALLY tells you something
Geoff DID preface it all by saying there wouldn't be many brand new announcements, so I went into it with the expectation of it being just a pretty chill afternoon show, and that's exactly what it was. Popped off at Terry in Street Fighter 6, added a BUNCH of indies to my wish list, and I appreciated the emphasis on the state of the game industry not only at the start of the show, but throughout (such as with Innersloth's Outersloth thing). Overall, I came out of it feeling pretty chipper.
They managed to make the State of Play look good.
Or at the very least, more respectful of our time.
@Platinum-Bucket
"Just to let you know, this is gonna suck"
doesn't mean you're allowed to not think it sucks
Worse than I thought it would be even with Geoff killing hype.
He should have added: "updates on already known games........ Most of which you could care less about."
Just awful
New Power Rangers game = GOAT Show.
Seriously though it was kind of meh?
Lego Horizon was the only thing of interest tbh. Power rangers looked cool but I'd wait for it to come to GP or Plus
It‘s a testament of how pathetic this show was that they announced new trailers etc. for Gamescom in August. But Summer Game Fest is NOW.
I forgot it was happening and came in near the end with zero expectations. So it was a big fat "meh" to me.
Terrible, you can complain about the state of play being bad, but at least it had Astro bot and was over in 30 minutes
@ShogunRok Amen to that
I thought it was pretty good, 3 buys and 2 maybe's. It was well paced. Just get rid of the celebrities, no one cares about them.
E3 was the *****. This is just *****
Very poor, there was maybe 4 games that stood out but the dross inbetween made me tune out and start forgetting what had already been shown.
I apparently didn’t watch the same show. I thought the first 30-45 minutes were really good. The middle was meh and the end picked back up. It’s C+/B- for me.
Best thing was the trailer for a terrible looking mobile game towards the end.
Not a ton there for me but the Alan Wake 2 expansion completely sold me. Power Rangers looks great too.
Geoff said not to expect big reveals so my expectations were in check. Overall i enjoyed it, it was nicely to the point with no cringey celeb stuff and there was lots shown i'm interested in.
Lego Horizon and Metaphor Re Fantazio were the standout games for me, second half of this year is looking so good.
Who in here is part of the 2% 3% who put excellent and very good hahaha what was you watching reruns of the greatest hits of E3 because you definitely didn't watch the same show I watched
Didn't watch as it was announced no major announcements
@Ichiban yup. E3 died for… this?
At least Power Rangers looked like 🔥🔥🔥
I honestly kinda liked it. Somewhat. It wasn't a masterpiece, but I really don't know what everyone else was expecting. I had absolutely no expectations, I didn't try to keep up with the live time, and I left satisfied.
Again, this is Geoff we're talking about, guys. Lower your expectations by ten billion.
I did fast forward a lot though. Yet I loved the indie games shown off.
This was hot garbage. I thought the State of Play was bad, but at least that was 30 minutes. Possibly the worst “big showcase” I’ve ever seen.
Geoff set expectations, but even then I felt like it underwhelmed. The gaming industry just feels like its in a bit of a rut right now.
Lego Horizon looks fun and fresh, phantom blade looks decent, physical alan wake 2, sonic generations, and power rangers all look good - and quidditch was a decent announcement (happy to try for free on ps plus) - but as ever what is with all the random skits and ads throughout. Truly bizarre. Takes away massively from the show.
Does look like a number of third parties have committed to Microsoft and Nintendo's shows this month - final fantasy 9 and dragon quest 3 hd being very heavily rumoured
This show should not be covered by gaming news sites going forward, that was a total waste of brain space
It was fine, a decent watch, I know not to expect much with these, so wasn't disappointed...or excited.
I had zero expectations so seeing phantom blade & wukong pre order was pukka for me. Not much outside of that Capcom game grabbing me
Alan Wake dlc babyyyyy
Sounds like a good thing I was asleep. I appreciate checking the headlines on Push Square though. The Lego Hotizon game looks neat.
Waste of time and bandwidth
They announced Civ 7 which I'll likely be playing for the next several years so I'm good.
@LordAinsley might've sucked for you, but I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to a lot that was shown off anyways, and there's a Nintendo direct right around the corner. Add that to my mile long backlog, and I don't mind if a presentation doesn't have the next Elder Scrolls, Halo, GTA, Bioshock, COD, or Fallout. I'm more than happy to see some pleasant little indies that actually have gameplay to show and will release in a finished state. What can I say, I liked this presentation. Sorry you didn't, dude.
Don't ever complain about a state of play cuz it will never be as bad as the that
It was exactly as expected.
I don’t know why everyone gets their hopes up every year.
I thought it was pretty solid. The SF6 season 2 trailer is kind of insane considering it's the first time a proper SF title is having guest characters so that's exciting! Not excited to see Elana back though. 😕
Too much mobile/free-to play crap for my liking.
The only things that really hit for me were the Alan Wake II DLC, a release date for Kunitsu-Gami, and Slitterhead.
Worst game event I have ever seen, this could’ve been an email.
Well I liked the Lego Horizon reveal at the start...
Return of the cgi trailers again. And more updates on the same sort of fps hero shooter or world creating / cooking games. It completely kills the excitement, as we are not seeing anything truly new. I am so glad I have amassed a back catalogue of over 150 games over ps3 / ps4 / ps5, not to mention the games added to ps plus extra and premium. I actually get excited for starrtng new old games.
After years of telling myself not to watch any more of these shows b/c it always feels like I wasted my time when it's over I finally didn't watch and really don't feel like I missed anything. I've already watched the Lego trailer and I think I'm good.
@DonJorginho I don't usually watch these but because everyone usually has negative comments towards state of play I thought I would see why people expect such greatness based on other shows, at least if state of play has a bad showing it is only 30 mins, this was 2 hours of the worst fake enthusiasm I have ever seen.
I probably won’t watch it ever again and just read about it on pushsquare the next day
@rjejr I feel like I wasted 2 hours
The only epic(er) trailer: Black Myth Wukong
The rest... chalk full with live service crap, mmo's, japan-style games, mobile games etc.
If that's the future of gaming, I don't want any part of it.
Where are the epic reveals, the AAA giants?
Remember when God Of War was announced at E3 in 2016? When Kratos appeared on the screen everyone there lost their s...t, they were surprised, amazed, shouting and acclaiming!
What happened to that? Is there no studio / publisher left that can pull something like that with an IP anymore?
From what I gathered, the show is just a bunch of meh.
I do miss the golden days of E3. They were so hyped.
@Kienda there wasnt even one new announcement that blew my
Mind away. Was a waste of time
SGF felt more like a 2 hour reveal announcement trailer for Gamescom XD
It’s an advert, just like State Of Plays, just like Nintendo Directs. The problem with that is there wasn’t enough to sell for the advert. When there is 2 or 3 tentpole titles firmly planted you can get some goodwill for the other announcements, but triple A gaming is dead at the moment and having a big party with no jelly and ice cream is just reminding us how bad gaming is at the moment.
It was better than I expected, but didn't expect much. Like everyone else, I didn't expect Phantom Blade Zero to come out of nowhere and steal the show at the end. Lego Horizon looks great as well.
@Max_the_German Even MHW was disappointing here.
Well I didn't think much of the show but I'll definitely be buying Phantom Blade Zero and Black Myth Wukong.
It was as disappointing as Geoff himself said it would be.
Is it just me that thinks that other capcom game looks awful.
I was cool with it until the long ad skit. That was way too long.
It was ok-ish. Many of the indies looked at least interesting. Most of the AAA looked boring. Not showing Gameplay of Wukong was criminal. The Remedy guy was quirky fun. Geoff scolding the industry was some needed cringe.
Not very exciting. Neva and Lego Horizon were highlights for me personally but the MH Wilds trailer was a big letdown and there were alot of Steam only games. Glad Sparking Zero has What If scenarios at least.
Terrible show,. Phantom blade was cool, could have just had a trailer released randomly for that though, and that movie??...looked about as good as this games fest was 🤣
Hope Ubi has some good stuff to show on Monday
@3Above wait power ranger pic and you didn't mention the awesome power rangers game which saved the show.
Shame on you
@UltimateOtaku91 I watched and fell asleep thinking wait is this capcom
The fact and reality remains that we have 0 idea of what bug hitters are hitting us next year.
Thats what E3 used to be all about, getting us hyped for the next year and updates of what's still to come.
But now we know.
State of play let down, game fest let down, next lot probably will be games we already know what are coming this year and then let down.
Astro the only game which stood out at state of play.
Game fest not much for how long it was, so many indies and then they have an indie show after.
Power rangers looked like a great retro tmnt beat em up, black myth monkey game looks absolutely amazing but will that be the graphics of the gameplay if it is I'm all in but if this is just an advert for a generic game then meh.
I did like the koala prison break game might have a blast with my kids with that one.
Alan wake dlc not bad but predictable.
Everything else seemed to blend into one there all the same games but a different skin. But that maybe because work is slow, im tired and im quite ill.
I may have to re look at what was shown when im not let down.
My expectations were low, but...it sucked. No way around it.
I was really wanting Pragmata to be shown since Capcom said that there would be "Multiple announcements" but it was just 2
It's a rubbish and will be always rubbish.
Glad I didn't watch at all.
It definitely was okay-ish but it put the icing on the cake for me after watching bits at computex this week, maybe Microsoft/Xbox can put the cherry on top.
Summer Gamefest is another dying show just waiting to happen lmao
@Bez87 😅 Fair point! I didnt mention it cause I thought it was Steam only. I just now read on IGN that is multiplatform so now I'm stoked! I have 3 friends who immediately said this is a day 1 for them so I'm building up my ranger team!
It was okay, not a lot for me but I’m not the only gamer out there so I set my expectations accordingly. Not a bunch of mobile crap either so that’s a big win in my books.
Besides indies and ports, it just seemed like they threw money at every Chinese dev to copy other games…
Nothing is wrong with tempering expectations, but that doesn’t mean you should expect nothing. It wasn’t festive and didn’t amp me up to celebrate games.
It’s wild how G4 just sent some random intern to a gaming convention and it was more worthwhile than this.
@UltimateOtaku91
There was one big smart move in this show Sony.
Lego Horizons on Switch and Xbox should follow suit with a game similar out of there big name games.
See young switch owners when they get older move onto the big consoles, especially when they start older school.
Now Sony has a major AAA even though it’s Lego and connection to PlayStation on Switch.
That connection creates a future PS5 console sale when that young Switch owner wants a more grown up big flash console.
It’s so dam smart that move with Lego Horizon on Switch.
Tim Robinson turning up to advertise Skate was a highlight. Probably the only highlight. And that was more out of bemusement.
Ah give him a break he puts on a show with a live audience with the hopes of engaging with the gaming community again into an event despite the collapse of E3 he still makes the effort to keep this feeling alive, his opening talk was great and hate it or not he actually represented less mainstream, dominant publishers to spotlight new devs and games highlighting the status of the industry at the moment with a few decent showings, but oh well people will never be happy.
Seinfeld was a way better show about nothing!
@Anti-Matter Insightful as always.... Honestly not sure why even bother with Pushsquare
Pretty meh to me. Didn’t help that the secondary host was dull. They probably should’ve found someone with more hosting experience. There were some nice indie titles in there, but nothing that made me crazy excited like when TGA announced Hades 2
Skate, Horizon Lego and Valorant were all decent for me. Rest I couldn't care for.
The Neva trailer was incredibly moving. Happy to see it also feature combat sections. Played GRIS from the same developer four years ago and it was fantastic. I still sometimes listen to the soundtrack.
@Specky no you are not a doomer, gaming has been getting worse since the ps3/360/Wii era. Good games have come out since then. But the soul and fun of the industry has been taken over by growth focused corporate greed and focus groups.
Vote for Okay. The only game im hyped for is monster hunter wilds
All I have to say is I’m REALLY glad I spent the time gaming instead of watching Summer Game Fest.
It was rubbish. The format is terrible, Geoff is still annoying and the woman couldn't present to save her life! Worse was the slate of games, so few caught my eye.
I expected nothing and what I got was worse than nothing, worse showing of the year and nothing will top it 🤷
Seinfeld is known as the show about nothing. After Summer Game Fest, Seinfeld was known as the show about nothing.
My expectations were low but holy cow this was such a waste of time. Black myth wukong was the only interesting game for me and I didnt even need this show to buy it day one.
I just wanted to see new games and that's what I saw. So wasn't bad.
I liked some of the games, like monster hunter, metaphor, and slitterhead looked alright but I don't really like horror much.
At this point just cancel it if your goona show boring and trash games.
an absolute waste of time.
Very indie heavy (which is cool) if anything it announce date fest but some cool surprise mixed in
Nah I think I liked it.
They're leaving it down to Xbox to save the Summer for a third straight year
I enjoyed it. I liked that the format was changed so that smaller devs and studios could get some air time.
I like lego games and I like Horizon, so im up for that title.
Been waiting for Black Wukong for ages, so to get a release date a day before my birthday was great news.
At that point I was happy and didnt need much else from the show, which was probably just as well as it was pretty light on new AAA's, but thats always been these shows, 10% of it will appeal, 90% wont. It was exactly the same with E3.
When did this site become such a viper's nest of bitter XBox fans piling on Sony? Absolutely shocking.
I know Geoff said don't get excited but man that was boring... Personally there wasnt a single game I was excited for or even really intreasted in.
Absolutely shocked that he mentioned the lay offs and state of the industry very briefly at the start
@Silenos if anything I'd say it's often bitter Sony fans wanting the downfall of everything except PlayStation
I'm so glad I didn't watch it live. I was able to fast-forward through it pretty quickly.
Worst Summer Gamefest ever.
@3Above I also thought it was steam only but thats great. Day One for me,
Such shame we don't get a adult take of the original series, id love a third person triple a action power ranger game of the original series
I didn't watch it live. I waited until it was over, and then skimmed through it on youtube. I always do this, so I don't have to suffer through all the boring ***** live.
There was maybe 2-3 games, that was interesting. The rest was just the same crap, we've had for years now. CGI trailers should be banned...
@KillerBoy Don't think of it as wasting 2 hours, think of it as stroking Geoff's ego for 2 hours, I'm sure he appreciated it.
Wait, I just made it worse didn't I. 😁
